How To Remove Radio From 2005 Toyota Tacoma

The factory tweeters in the upper door panel were installed in Toyota Tacoma models from 2005 to 2015.

speakers on the front door

Front door speakers that resemble 6 x 9 speakers are included with the base audio system and are located in the lower portion of the front door. The speakers are made of inexpensive, high-quality materials, and they handle very little power. The factory stereo receives a 4 ohm load from the stock speakers when they are wired in parallel to the tweeters. To make sure the right load is supplied to the stock head unit, we strongly advise using a component set of speakers.

Your front door speakers can be upgraded in a variety of ways. Check out the packed speaker systems we have made specifically for your Toyota Tacoma. Additionally, we offer specialized mounting brackets that let you install 6×9, 6.5, or 6.75 coaxial or aftermarket speakers.

Rear door speakers for the base audio system that mimic 6.5 speakers are included. The back doors don’t have tweeters. Component speakers have been put in the back doors by several of our clients. The door panel needs to be adjusted for this.

Which speakers can you find in a Toyota Tacoma?

First, let’s discuss the Tacoma speaker configuration and the benefits of the OEM Audio Plus speaker upgrade.

Six speakers are included inside Toyota Tacomas from the second and third generations. Two tweeters are located up front on the dash, close to the windshield, so let’s start there. Each of the back doors has a 6.5 speaker, while the front doors each have a 6 x 9. Unsurprisingly, all of these speakers are replaced with the OEM Audio Plus speaker upgrade. These speakers are plug-and-play and can be used as drop-in replacements.

Two 6 x 9 carbon fiber cone woofers, one soft dome tweeter, two 6.5 2-way carbon fiber cone coaxial speakers, and one soft dome tweeter are all included in the kit. A single dome tweeter is also included in the rear coaxial speakers.

These speakers feel substantial and robust, and their carbon fiber cones give them a fantastic appearance. Regarding the magnet size on the 6 x 9 woofers, mine arrived with a remark. It describes the newly improved neodymium magnet-equipped variant.

OEM Audio Plus says:

This improved rare earth magnet is lighter and has a lower installation footprint than the conventional magnet, but it still offers superior magnetic density and performance limits. To enhance the fit and functionality of this component, we made the decision to invest in this superior magnet material.

Removing the rear door speakers (2001-2004 Double Cab)

The double cab’s rear door speakers, which measure 6″ x 8″, can be swapped out for aftermarket speakers of the same size or, with the aid of mounting brackets, 5-1/4″ speakers.

The door panels must also be removed at this location. To do so, unscrew a Phillips screw from the door release assembly and slide the assembly toward the front of the door. While working on the remainder of the project, you can leave it hanging there.

Pry up the armrest carefully (we mean it, they might shatter), releasing six plastic clips before removing the armrest and removing the two exposed Phillips screws. Seriously, don’t go full Neanderthal on this assignment; these clips are brittle.

To loosen seven retaining clips, pry away the door panel’s sides and bottom. Remove the wiring harness and insert the door release assembly into the panel’s opening after lifting the panel. The door panel should be removed and put away safely and out of the way.

Pull remove the old speaker and unhook the harness after removing the four Phillips screws holding it to the factory bracket. Additionally, keep those screws organized. Later on, you’ll require them again.

Work carefully and put on eye protection. You might also need to cut out the plastic in these speaker cavities. If you need to do this, our website will notify you in advance, but a brief test-fit during the installation will confirm it for sure.

Removing the rear side speakers (1998-2001 Xtra Cab)

Rear side panel speakers on your 19982001 Tacoma Xtra Cab are rather simple to replace. The originals are typically 6-3/4 “models and can be swapped out for matching-size, aftermarket speakers that measure 5-1/4″ or 6-1/2”. Later models contain 6″x8″ speakers, which may be swapped out for 5-1/4″ or the same size “speakers. You can find out which new speakers will fit your car by using our advisors or vehicle selector.

It’s a completely different situation if your truck doesn’t have stock speakers in this location. To secure the speakers in the spaces currently occupied by storage cubbies, you’ll need to create something, and then you’ll need to drill holes so that the bracket can be mounted. This is feasible, but will require some expertise from either you or your neighborhood car audio shop.

Removing the rear side speakers (2002-2004 Xtra Cab)

It’s a little trickier to replace the rear side speakers on the 2002-2004 Xtra Cabs. Although none of the work is very challenging, there is a fair bit of it, so you’ll need to be organized and patient.
