In my opinion, Need for Speed: Underground 2 is the best of the 23 (soon to be 24) games since it offered incredible customization choices, harsh and realistic physics, and a soundtrack that still predominates the majority of my Spotify playlists.
The next NFS game was created by Ghost Games, and its creative director Riley Cooper has said the following:

Cooper and his team’s first priority for Need for Speed: Heat, the newest NFS game, is to add more customization. The franchise has always featured insanely fast automobile customization in addition to high-octane driving. Cooper is obviously addressing this in the most recent version.
