The ideal time to carry out the next few measures is when the engine is still slightly warm, but not right after you’ve driven the car hard. It is important to note that, with minor adaptations, you can use the instructions below for any type of vehicle.
In This Article...
Step One: Prepare the Vehicle
Set your parking brake and make sure your Toyota van is in park or first gear. After doing that, take off the oil fill cap, which is located underneath the driver’s seat. To learn how to get below, you can also consult your handbook.
Step Three: Drain the Old Oil
Now, turn the drain plug loose with the closed-end wrench by about half a turn. The drain pan should then be slid underneath the drain plug. When the plug is ready to be removed, immediately pull it out after making sure the screw has unscrewed. Hold onto the plug to prevent it from falling into the pan. Before reinstalling the plug, let the old oil drain for about five minutes.
Step Four: Remove the Old Oil Filter
Carefully remove the oil filter by using the oil filter wrench. Once the filter is free, you can manually unscrew it with a towel. You must use caution, though, as the filter can still contain oil. Therefore, don’t forget to set the drain pan below it. Remove any dirt or old oil, then check to see if the ring gasket is still attached to the engine.
Step Five: Mount the New Oil Filter
Apply a few drops of your clean oil on the new filter’s ring gasket. Wind the new filter on by hand with caution. If you’re having difficulties firmly wrapping your hand around it, you can also use your wrench.
Step Six: Add Fresh Oil
Check the area around the fill cap for cleanliness and locate the engine oil fill hole. Make sure you don’t spill any new oil on the engine by using the funnel to add it. You must instantly wipe it off if this occurs. Check the oil level using the dipstick. Until you start the engine, let the oil rest slightly over the mark.

Which motor oil is ideal for my car?
The optimum quality of engine oil is one of the most crucial considerations when selecting oil for your vehicle. You can see a number of digits on the label, such as 10W-40 or 5W-30, and you must correctly enter these figures (see below).
These figures represent the oil’s viscosity, or “thickness.” Today’s oil is often thinner, which allows it to circulate swiftly inside the engine when the car is started, reducing the risk of damage from metal parts rubbing against one another. Because modern engines are constructed with finer tolerances, thinner oils are needed. Lower viscosity, thinner oils aid in improved fuel efficiency.
Because they are “multigrade” oils, the majority of oils have two sets of numbers. Because of its additives, oil can vary viscosity in response to temperature.
Winter is indicated by the “W” digit, and the lower the initial number, the better the oil will perform at cold temperatures. The better it will perform at greater temperatures, the lower the second number.
Additionally, you can combine several oil brands and even grades without seriously harming your engine. The lesser of two evils is having the incorrect oil in your car’s engine rather than none at all, but if you find yourself in a bind and can only obtain the incorrect grade of oil, you should schedule an oil change as soon as possible.

Can I replace my own engine oil?
- holding device for spent oil
- motor oil
- fuel filter
- oil filter seal
Any do-it-yourselfer can change the oil in their car. Although changing the oil can seem relatively obvious, many people still do it incorrectly, turning it into an unsightly job. The most crucial thing you can do to prolong the life of your engine is to change the oil. We’ll show you how to change your oil and prolong the life of your oil.
An oil change is a simple procedure.
Probably years ago, you did it yourself. But as oil change shops increase their prices, it’s time to get back beneath the car and start making significant financial savings. Additionally, you won’t constantly be pressed into purchasing expensive add-ons like PCV valves and wiper blades when you go in for an oil change.
Can I perform my own oil change?
The home oil change is a pillar of do-it-yourself automotive maintenance. It’s an easy technique that only needs a few equipment, and it’s a surefire method to save money while avoiding the pain of spending time reading outmoded magazines in a boring waiting room.
How frequently should my oil be changed?
While it used to be customary to change the oil every 3,000 miles, modern lubricants now allow for suggested oil change intervals of 5,000 to 7,500 miles in the majority of engines. Additionally, your car’s engine might go up to 15,000 miles between maintenance if it needs complete synthetic motor oil.
How frequently should my Toyota Hiace be serviced?
Engine lubrication depends heavily on engine oil. Although it may appear that many users are negligent, the oil’s functionality will eventually diminish. The engine must be frequently replaced in order to maintain good condition for a long time.
It is exceedingly uncommon for a typical car to have an exceptionally low oil level, barring any issues. Oil is still necessary for the engine, though, therefore it’s critical to pay attention to the warning lights when driving. Additionally, check the engine oil level gauge at least once every six months by opening the engine room under the passenger seat. Checking the oil’s cleanliness and whether it is poured to the required level is necessary. It may occasionally result in the early identification of anomalous circumstances.
However, there is a 1.1 L disparity in oil amount between the upper and lower limit places at the gauge’s tip (normal if the oil level has this amount of gap). In other words, you can add 1L if the oil level is close to the lower limit.
Bring it to a dealer and have the oil changed frequently if you don’t like doing that yourself. Oil should be changed, that is accurate. Toyota advises changing the oil every 15,000 kilometers. To maintain good functioning, the dealers that worked with us this time advise replacing it every 5,000 kilometers and once a year even if you are not using it.
Utilizing pure oil is safe. Although there are many different kinds, including 5w-20, using low viscosity oil is highly advised because it will increase fuel economy. Additionally, we advise customers who are picky about grade to utilize benzoyl. Diesel engines in particular offer a smooth rotational feeling and have a great cleansing impact on the combustion chamber. Oil filters should generally be changed every other time you get your oil changed.
According to a dealer, an oil change takes around 15 minutes, and if you also change the filter, it takes around 30 minutes. 5.5L of oil can be stored, including the filter (6.3 L and 6.5L for diesel).
