How Much Does A 2018 Toyota Corolla Weight

The white bread of new vehicles is the 2018 Toyota Corolla. Filling food with little excitement; an automobile that gets the job done with only the occasional flash of style.

That doesn’t offend you. Over the last few generations, Toyota has sold more than 40 million Corollas worldwide, making the automobile as well-known as Wonderbread. And about as exciting, so we gave it a respectable but not exceptional 6.3 out of 10. (Learn more about our rating system for automobiles.)

With the exception of the removal of a 50th anniversary special edition (51st anniversary doesn’t exactly have the same ring), the most recent Corolla enters 2018 essentially unchanged. All models now come standard with illuminated vanity mirrors, and the XLE and SE trim levels add a leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel to their list of features.

Important information: Toyota produces two distinct Corolla models, each with a distinctive history. The Corolla sedan and the Corolla iM hatchback have been placed together since they have a similar name and philosophy on life. The Corolla iM, temporarily known as the Scion iM until that brand was incorporated into Toyota’s lineup, is essentially a 5-door hatchback designed for the European market. It boasts a unique cabin and a much more advanced suspension system underneath. We’ll note distinctions between the two designs when needed, but our ranking is based on the sedan, which outsells the iM by a significant margin.

The L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE, and XSE trim levels of the Corolla sedan are all equipped with 4-cylinder engine and a commendably high level of basic safety features. There is only one Corolla iM configuration available, which is roughly comparable to the Corolla SE sedan.

Regardless of body style, the Toyota Corolla receives high marks for comfort and efficiency as well as its crash-test record. However, it receives lower marks for its interior’s chintzy atmosphere, its dubious value, and the fact that many competitors offer more personality without compromising the Corolla’s appealing practicality.

The 1.8-liter inline-4 engine in the 2018 Corolla range is rated at 132 horsepower in most sedan models. The Eco sedan, as its name suggests, is optimized for efficiency and, strangely enough, offers 8 more horsepower with its version of the 4-cylinder engine. Although a 6-speed manual transmission is offered on the SE sedan and the iM hatchback, continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are standard on the majority of Corollas. Without a doubt, the Corolla’s suspension and steering are calibrated for comfort rather than performance, despite the iM’s multi-link rear suspension giving it a bit more tenacity on winding roads.

Although none of the models are exceptionally good values when compared to their list prices, they are all well-equipped from the start. The Corolla line achieves around 30 mpg combined, which is above average for compact cars but not nearly the best in its class.
