Toyota has announced a recall affecting 928,000 Toyota, Scion, and Lexus automobiles, signaling the beginning of the final stage of its Takata airbag replacement program. Until the “final cure airbags were available, these vehicles had their high-risk airbags replaced with fresh Takata airbags as a temporary fix.
This action requires the more than 900,000 vehicles to return to dealerships so that new airbags from non-Takata suppliers can be installed. According to Toyota, this final stage is being completed ahead of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s timeline.
Dealers may swap out the front passenger or driver airbag inflator and/or airbag assembly, depending on the type of the car.

Which Toyota models have airbag recalls?
Toyota is recalling millions of vehicles because some collisions may prevent airbags from deploying.
A total of 2.9 million 20112019 Corolla sedans, 20112013 Matrix hatchbacks, 20122018 Avalon sedans, and 20132018 Avalon Hybrid sedans are among the models that have been recalled.
In order to deploy airbags and tighten seatbelts in a collision, airbag control units must interpret or receive the proper data from crash sensors. This is an issue. According to Toyota, this issue is more prone to occur in specific collisions, such as underride collisions, in which one vehicle’s front end wedges beneath another’s rear end.
Any accidents or fatalities linked to this problem have not been confirmed or denied by a Toyota spokesman. However, the Office of Defects Investigation at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has discovered two “serious frontal crash incidents,” including one fatality, using Toyota Corolla sedans.
This announcement comes in response to an NHTSA inquiry into the airbag control unit, which was produced by the now-defunct TRW-ZF-TRW firm. Additionally, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Toyota have all utilised these components in their vehicles.
Vehicles using this control unit have previously been recalled by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Hyundai, and Kia.
Do any modern automobiles have Takata airbags?
The short answer is that, as of April 2018, no new automobile models from the year 2018 had been added to the Takata airbag recall list. The recall, which presently affects 37 million vehicles but is continually expanding, includes 2017 and 2000 model year automobiles.
The impacted airbags present a risky and perhaps fatal condition in which the bag could explode violently, injuring your head and neck and spewing shrapnel throughout the interior of your car.
How durable are Toyota airbags?
Airbags are typically made to last and are always deployed for life-saving objectives, therefore their relative lifespan should range from 10 to 15 years.
You should be at ease if the airbag device is sealed and not exposed to the environment. However, it would be prudent to bring your automobile in for a bag replacement and basic maintenance if it is more than 15 years old.
It would be advisable to obtain liability coverage as the bare minimum line of defense for any potential collisions if the auto insurance policy on your father’s truck is no longer in effect. Recalling Toyota airbags is it free?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced an expansion of the Takata Inflator Recalls to the whole industry on May 4, 2016. According to this statement, Takata will eventually recall more unique front airbag inflators made with phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant and without a “desiccant” ingredient (a chemical drying agent that absorbs moisture). This extension had an effect on Toyota and numerous other automakers who used particular Takata front airbag inflators.
Three geographical zones and five phases make up the structure of this expansion. According to NHTSA and numerous other independent investigations, time, temperature, and humidity all play a key role in the severe propellant deterioration that can result in an unreasonably high risk of inflator explosion. For more information about the affected models and when each model will be recalled, please check the FAQs.
Based on the previously indicated phased expansion, the fix for this safety recall expansion is accessible for all the cars now under recall. Please check if your car is currently subject to the recall using the lookup tool above. Please visit a certified Toyota or Lexus dealer right away for this FREE repair if your car is involved.

Engine and engine cooling
Certain 2020 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Lexus ES300h, 2019-2020 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles powered by 2.5L 4-Cylinder engines are being recalled by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota). The engine castings’ porosity may lead to cracks that could let coolant leak internally or outside.
In traditional gasoline automobiles, a coolant leak can cause the engine to overheat and stall, increasing the risk of an accident. Additionally, the mechanical integrity of the engines of all involved vehicles could be harmed, raising the possibility of an engine oil leak and a subsequent fire.
Owners will be notified by Toyota, and dealers will check and repair the engine for free (including the engine block, if necessary). Recall started on April 3, 2020. Owners can reach Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 or Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. The Toyota recall number is 20TA04. The recall number for Lexus is 20LA02.

Air bags: Sensor: Occupant classification
Certain 2019 Camry automobiles are being recalled by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota). The front passenger air bag and the knee air bag may not properly deploy in the event of an accident because the Occupant Classification System (OCS) may have been calibrated incorrectly. Because of this, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection,” is not met by these vehicles.
The front seat passenger is more likely to sustain injuries in a crash if the air bags do not deploy as intended.
Toyota will provide owners notice, and dealers will free-of-charge adjust the OCS. The 2019 recall started on August 27. At 1-888-270-9371, owners can reach Toyota customer support. K0M is Toyota’s number for this recall.
Equipment: Other: Labels
Certain 2017-2019 Toyota Camry, Corolla, Rav4, Sienna, and Yaris iA vehicles with factory-installed floor mats are being recalled by Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET). It’s possible that the load bearing capacity modification label is wrong. Because of this, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims,” is not met by these automobiles.
An inaccurate label could result in an inadvertent overload of the car, raising the likelihood of a collision.
SET will give owners notice and a free replacement label to be applied over the incorrect label. Beginning on August 23, 2019, the recall. At 1-888-270-9371, owners can reach Toyota customer support. SET19A is the reference number for this recall.
Certain 2019 C-HR, 4Runner, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Tacoma, Sienna, Tundra, and Yaris cars are being recalled by Gulf States Toyota (GST). The load capacity label’s text can become unreadable. Because of this, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims,” is not met by these automobiles.
The risk of an accident rises if the driver is unable to read the label and unintentionally overloads the car.
Owners will be notified by GST, and dealers will give them free load carrying capacity modification stickers. Recall started on May 24, 2019. Owners can call 1-800-444-1074 to speak with GST customer service. The GST recall number is 19R1.
Air bags
The 20112019 Corolla, 20112013 Matrix, 20122018 Avalon, and 20132018 Avalon Hybrid are among the Toyota vehicles that are being recalled. The air bag electronic control unit (ECU) may malfunction during some collisions, potentially preventing the deployment of the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners.
In the case of a collision, malfunctioning air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners may raise the risk of harm.
Toyota will provide owners notice, and dealers will check the ECU and, if necessary, free of charge, install a noise filter between the air bag control module and its wiring harness. On March 17, 2020, the recall is anticipated to start. At 1-888-270-9371, owners can reach Toyota customer support. Toyota’s recall numbers are 20TB03 and 20TA03.
Seat belts: Rear/other
Rear seat belt assemblies with dual-mode locking mechanisms are present on some 20192020 CHR, 2020 Corolla, and Corolla Hybrid vehicles that Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling. It’s possible that the seat belt webbing sensor locking mechanism won’t lock properly.
The seat belt may not adequately restrain the occupant in a crash with several hits, hence raising the risk of harm.
Toyota will provide owners notice, and dealers will check the production dates of the rear seat belt assemblies and replace them for free if necessary. 2020-02-07: The recall officially started. At 1-888-270-9371, owners can reach Toyota customer support. Toyota’s recall numbers are 19TB22 and 19TA22.
In the event of an inflator explosion, the driver or other passengers may be seriously hurt or killed when sharp metal shards strike them.
Toyota will let owners know. Dealers will replace the driver or front passenger air bag inflator or the air bag system using an alternative inflator, free of charge, depending on the vehicle type. The start of the recall is anticipated for November 15, 2019. Owners can get in touch with Lexus or Toyota customer assistance at 1-800-255-3987 or 1-888-270-9371, respectively. Toyota’s recall numbers are J0A, J0B, and J0C. The recall numbers for Lexus are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.
Certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles are being recalled by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) because the front passenger air bag assembly was changed in a previous recall. Under high temperature circumstances, the air bag may not unfold as intended during inflation, which could prevent the air bag from properly inflating.
Toyota will let the owners know. Owners of Pontiac Vibes will be informed by GM. The front passenger air bag assembly will be free to be replaced by dealers. For Toyota customers, the recall is anticipated to start on September 25, 2019. Owners of Toyota vehicles can reach customer support at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota’s recall numbers are K1Q and K0Q. Call 1-800-762-2737 to reach GM customer support if you own a Pontiac. The recall’s GM reference number is N192273760.
Electronic stability control
Certain 2019 Lexus LS500, LC500, ES300h, UX250h, LS500h, Toyota Prius, RAV4 HV, 2019-2020 Toyota Prius Prime, and 2020 Corolla HV vehicles are being recalled by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota). Failure of the brake booster pump could result in the VSC system being turned off and the loss of braking assistance. As a result, these vehicles do not meet the criteria of FMVSS 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems,” which is a federal motor vehicle safety standard.
The risk of a collision increases when the vehicle stability control system is off or when brake support is lost.
Owners will be informed by Toyota, and dealers will inspect and replace the brake booster pump for free if necessary. Beginning on September 20, 2019, the recall. Owners of Lexus and Toyota vehicles can reach Lexus customer support at 1-800-255-3987 and 1-888-270-9371, respectively. K1L/K0L are Toyota’s numbers for this recall. The recall numbers for Lexus are K2F/KLF.
