The Toyota Yaris is being replaced by what?
For 2021, the Mazda-based sedan and hatchback won’t be back. The Yaris just can’t seem to get any luck. The hatchback model was reportedly going to be dropped from the U.S. market last year. That turned out to be somewhat accurate when a Mazda2 hatchback was used to replace the Toyota-designed Yaris.
Why did Toyota cease producing the Yaris?
In Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mazda started producing the Mazda2 in 2014 for a number of North and South American countries. The vehicle would be offered in Mexico as the Yaris, in the US as the Scion iA, and in Canada as the Yaris sedan. This facility would make a variant of the Mazda2 for Toyota with minor cosmetic changes, it was announced during the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April of that year. Toyota announced in July 2015 that the vehicle would be marketed as the Yaris R in Mexico.
The automobile was renamed the Toyota Yaris iA starting in August 2016 for the 2017 model year, following the discontinuation of the Scion brand in the United States. It was given a mild facelift with a redesigned grille insert and trim revisions for the 2019 model year and renamed once more to the Yaris sedan in the US. The 2019 and 2020 Yaris sedans were sold in L, LE, and XLE trim levels with a broader number of interior and exterior options, in contrast to the previous versions, which only provided exterior colors and a choice between a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission as factory options.
The XP130 Yaris Liftback was replaced in the United States and Canada for the 2020 model year by a Mazda-built Yaris hatchback that was rebadged as a Mazda2 and had a front fascia identical to the Yaris sedan’s. It made its premiere at the 2019 New York International Auto Show in April of that year. On April 1, 2019, its official pictures were made public. The Yaris hatchback was available in LE and XLE trim levels in the US and Canada. Sales of the hatchback started in October 2019 in the US.
Due to new rules and weak sales, both Mazda2-based Yaris models were terminated in the United States in June 2020. Toyota announced in July that sales would also cease in Canada. In August, the cars were likewise phased out in Mexico, leaving only the XP150 series Yaris and Yaris Sedn imported from Thailand as direct substitutes.
In 2021, will Toyota continue to produce the Yaris?
When we asked whether Toyota would be retiring its sedan lineup in a blog article from last year, the response was a loud no. We don’t see the Toyota brand disappearing anytime soon despite the absence of its sedans, which include models like the Camry and Corolla. That does not, however, exclude the eventual discontinuation of some models. Unfortunately, the Toyota Yaris has experienced that, and it won’t be making a comeback for the 2021 model year.
When was the Toyota Yaris phased out?
Three years after introducing the mid-size sedan here, Toyota has discontinued the Yaris in India. The Yaris was released in India in 2018 with a long feature list and a safety package that, in some variants, included as many as seven airbags!
The only available engine was a 1.5-liter gasoline unit paired with a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission. Customers in this market, which includes competitors like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, did not believe the car to be worthwhile. Only 19,784 homes were found for the Yaris in India as of the end of August 2021, and many of those were for fleet customers.
Retaining the sub-10 lakh bracket for rebadged Maruti Suzuki cars like the Toyota Glanza and the Urban Cruiser, which are already on the market in India, is also consistent with Toyota’s plans to discontinue the Yaris. In the upcoming months, another rebadged product might take the place of the Yaris.
Toyota has guaranteed all current customers that the Yaris’ spare component supply will not be impacted for the next ten years.
When it comes to the Toyota India lineup, the company is anticipated to release revised Fortuner models early next month, along with a 4WD version for the Fortuner Legender.
Do you prefer the Corolla or the Yaris?
Although both of these cars perform effectively, the tiny Yaris gets higher gas mileage. The Corolla is rated at 28 mpg city/36 mpg highway by the EPA, but the lowest trim Yaris receives an EPA rating of 32 mpg city/40 mpg motorway.
What issues does the Toyota Yaris have?
The most frequent issues with your Yaris include the following:
- Issues with speed control.
- Vibrations Too Much Because of a Poor Engine Mount
- Check engine light on with error code P0713.
- Problems with automatic transmission.
- Error-prone airbag inflators.

- Peeling of the clear coat too soon.

Toyota was voted into fifth place out of 30 manufacturers, up from sixth the year before and comfortably in front of luxury brands like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes.
Adult and child occupant protection were evaluated at 86 percent and 81 percent, respectively, by Euro NCAP, who gave the Yaris a perfect five stars for safety.
The Yaris comes equipped with a lot of safety equipment as standard, including active systems like a Driver Attention Alert, Road Sign Assist, Emergency Steering Assist, and a Pre-Collision feature with cyclist and pedestrian detection. Is the Mazda Yaris a Toyota?
Since its release in the country in 2007, the Yaris has served as the company’s attempt to compete with other well-liked subcompacts including the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, and Hyundai Kona. The Yarishas seen some aesthetic and equipment alterations over the years; it even lost, then recovered, the sedan body style before it vanished for the 2019 model year.
For 2020, the Toyota Yaris is back and has a recognizable appearance. This is due to the fact that it is actually a 2014-model Mazda2, which has been rebadged. It’s not a bad thing, either, as the Yaris was more well-known for its economical efficiency than its fun to drive reputation.
