Over the weekend, the app was causing me problems as well. Sincerely, I believe it has to do with BMW systems. Even the remote camera has recently been crap, but mine is back to normal.
I haven’t yet had a remote camera operate for me. Since picking up my car, I’ve tried it every day. I haven’t been able to make it work even once.
I’ve already given up on the remote camera for the time being because I haven’t driven the M4 in two weeks and can’t get the app to update in the garage.

I experienced the similar issue with the app not updating, and part of the remedy involved entering my approval again in the vehicle’s data protection option ( in fact BMW sent me an email advising I do this because it was they who deactivated the communication between phone app and the vehicle). That did not, however, resolve the issue, so the next thing I did was to go to the vehicle’s apps page (the page where you can see all the icons), press the options button on the center console, and select update apps, or words to that effect. It takes a few seconds for the update to complete, and you then receive a message confirming that it has. Suddenly, the MyBMW app on my iPhone started to function.
