1 Series BMW
Since 2004, BMW has been producing a line of C-segment subcompact executive automobiles under the name BMW 1 Series. It is presently in its third generation and is the replacement for the BMW 3 Series Compact. The first generation, which served as the entry-level model in the BMW product line, was made in hatchback, coupe, and convertible body types.
Since 2014, the coupe and convertible versions have been sold independently under the 2 Series brand, therefore both body types are no longer part of the 1 Series lineup. 2017 saw the release of a four-door sedan for the Chinese market, which was built on the same front-wheel drive architecture as the third-generation 1 Series hatchback.
The first generation featured the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, a high-performance BMW M variant. The 1 Series M Coupe was replaced by the BMW M2 in 2016 as a result of the 1 Series coupe type being replaced by the 2 Series.
The 1 Series has been rear-wheel driven for its first two incarnations, although all-wheel drive has been an available feature since 2012. The 1 Series’ third generation, which debuted in 2019, switched to a front-wheel drive configuration while keeping the all-wheel drive option.
The new 1 Series F40 has begun production at the BMW plant in Leipzig.
The replacement with a front-wheel drive platform has started its manufacturing cycle in Leipzig right after the BMW 1 Series F20’s production cycle comes to an end. The bar is conceivably high for the first BMW 1 Series with front-wheel drive because 1,248,737 units of the second generation were produced. The Munich executives are nonetheless certain that the new BMW 1 Series F40 would meet its clients’ tastes. The third generation of the 1 Series does away with the three-door model in addition to the front-wheel drive update.
The Misano Blue 118i with the M Sport package is the first BMW 1 Series F40 to leave the factory. The top model M135i xDrive is also depicted in a few of the pictures below. Production in Leipzig will increase in the upcoming months to about 600 automobiles per day. The Regensburg factory will begin producing the 1 Series F40 starting in November, greatly enhancing its capacity.
In addition to the BMW 1 Series F40, the Leipzig plant also produces the 2 Series Coupe, including the M2 Competition, the 2 Series Convertible, the 2 Series Active Tourer, as well as the i3, i8, and i8 Roadsters. Currently, a little over a thousand cars depart the factory each day. In addition, with an estimated 300 million euros spent in the facility, serial manufacturing of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will start in November. As a result, production capacity will increase to 350,000 units annually in 2020 from the current 250,000 units.
Hans-Peter Kemser, Director of the BMW Leipzig Plant “For all of us at the Leipzig plant, producing the new BMW 1 Series in series is a really meaningful event. In the upcoming years, the 1 Series will significantly contribute to our plant’s continued high capacity utilization. In-depth planning for the new model has dominated the past few months. Our workers were able to demonstrate their proficiency in the manufacture of vehicles with the BMW front-wheel drive architecture with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.”

The BMW 1 Series has a higher price tag but is less powerful than its closest competition, the Volvo V40. This was possibly one of the factors that prevented it from succeeding. The 2.0-liter turbo engine in the V40 produces 150 horsepower and 350 nm of torque. The Volvo hatchback is around Rs 3.55 lakh less expensive than the 1 Series with a price range of 26.75 to 30.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mini vehicles are assembled in Plant Oxford, a BMW automotive plant in Cowley, southeast of Oxford, England. Together with Plant Hams Hall, where engines are made, and Plant Swindon, where body pressings and subassemblies are made, the facility constitutes the Mini production triangle.
Three production facilities were located on the original Morris Motors site at Cowley, and they were all divided by the B480 and eastern Oxford Ring roads.
