In a few years, the FedEx Cup Playoffs’ penultimate tournament will return to the same location.
The PGA Tour revealed on Tuesday that the BMW Championship, which will take place in Delaware’s Wilmington Country Club in 2022, will also be played at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, in 2025, and Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2026. Although the exact dates haven’t been decided, both events are planned for August.

In addition to hosting the BMW Championship last year, which was won by eventual FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay, Caves Valley also helped raise a record $5.6 million for caddie scholarships and the establishment of the Caves Valley Evans Scholars Scholarship House at the University of Maryland.
The return of this famous title to Caves Valley Golf Club is a great honor, according to Caves Valley Golf Club President Steve Fader. “We’re still giddy with last year’s performance and the attention it brought to the Baltimore region. The 2008 BMW Championship was previously held at Bellerive Country Club, when Camilo Villegas won for the first time on the PGA Tour. The club also played host to the 1992 and 2018 PGA Championships as well as the 1965 U.S. Open, during which Gary Player completed his career grand slam. In 2030, Bellerive will also serve as the Presidents Cup host.
Bellerive Country Club President Rick Walsh expressed his excitement about hosting the 2026 BMW Championship and welcoming the FedExCup Playoffs back to St. Louis. “Our club has a long history of hosting major golf championships. We intend to honor our great and encouraging community while putting the participants to a challenging exam.”
The competition was first held in 1899 under the name Western Open, making it the third-oldest competition on the Tour’s calendar, behind the British Open and the U.S. Open. Since 2007, the BMW Championship has helped more than 3,300 men and women attend college by raising more than $40 million for caddy scholarships.
In 2023, the BMW Championship will return to Chicago’s Olympia Fields Country Club, and in 2024, it will make its debut at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado, a suburb of Denver.
There are hundreds in Wilmington for the BMW Championship. Where do all of them park?
This week’s BMW Championship golf tournament will draw tens of thousands of spectators to the Wilmington Country Club, and nearby businesses are taking advantage of the event’s scarce parking.
At Twin Lakes Farm, hundreds of automobiles and trucks have paid $50 each to park in what was formerly a horse field.
One of the least expensive choices that are commutable to the course, according to lot attendant Michael Barone, are multiple lots that charge $100 per day.
“We have room for about 1,000 automobiles. There are almost 500 in this lot, yet it’s actually greater over there if you look over here. Therefore, if necessary, we could probably fit about 1,000 cars. We’ll see how this develops. Let’s hope we reach that figure. That’d be fantastic.”
Barone claimed that because of the increasing traffic each day of the competition, they had to start opening earlier.
It is anticipated that more than 100,000 people would watch the competition, which goes through Sunday.
Where is the BMW competition taking place?
The 2022 BMW PGA Championship will resume play on Sunday after being suspended on Thursday due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. With several groups still having to complete their first rounds, play will go back up on Saturday at 6:40 a.m. local time in Surrey, England (1:40 a.m. ET).
The DP World Tour issued a statement saying, “All original second round tee times will stay the same and the second round of the BMW PGA Championship will continue at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.” The players who haven’t finished their first round will start doing so at 7:30 a.m. from the spot on the course where they finished on Thursday.
Instead of the usual 72 holes, the tournament, which is the biggest on the DP World Tour, will only have 54 holes.
The statement read, “The Rolex Series event will now be played over 54 holes with a goal of wrapping up on Sunday as scheduled. “Due to ongoing planning for the state funeral, we are unable to guarantee the staff, amenities, or security of the location on Monday, thus it is not possible to play the entire 72 holes and finish on that day. Flags will continue to fly at half-mast throughout the weekend at Wentworth, and black ribbons will be made available for everyone to wear.”
Because the Englishmen Andy Sullivan and Tommy Fleetwood and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland shared the lead at the end of play on Thursday, their opening rounds of 8-under 64 carry even more significance. With only 36 holes remaining, it will be more challenging for chasers to catch up to those at the top of the leaderboard.
The DP World Tour made no mention of altering the cut, therefore it should be reasonable to presume that it will happen after the first 36 holes. But even a prestigious event like this week’s BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, one of the top tournaments on the DP World Tour, depends on the German automaker and another dozen sponsors, including Zoom, Rolex, and Hilton, to pay the players, cover event costs, and have some money left over for charitable causes.
There is only one issue. More than a dozen golfers from the competing LIV Golf series, which is supported by Saudi Arabia, will compete in the BMW PGA Championship, including fan favorites Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood as well as several contenders like Kevin Na, Patrick Reed, and Martin Kaymer.
The DP World Tour has a slightly different policy than the PGA Tour, which has suspended players who have joined LIV and prevented them from competing in PGA Tour events. For the time being, participants may participate in the competition if they have qualified for tournaments like Wentworth based on their global rankings or other factors.
Given the sums of money sponsors provide to a DP World Tour, PGA Tour, or any other international tour, they want something in return. They want excellent performers to provide interesting drama, yes, but they also want corporate perks and media attention. Rory McIlroy defeated Scottie Scheffler by one stroke in the final round of the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour on August 28 to win the FedEx Cup, the tour’s season-long points competition. (The Tour Championship is sponsored by Southern Company, Coca-Cola, and Accenture, in addition to FedEx, a season-long sponsor of the PGA Tour who provides a significant portion of the $18 million first-place payment.)
Additionally, having a winner from LIV Golf puts sponsors and the DP World Tour itself in an awkward position. The DP World Tour is a strategic partner of the PGA Tour but has let LIV players to compete.
Top tour players including U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick slammed the LIV presence at Wentworth before the competition had began, calling it “disappointing.” The BMW PGA Championship champion from 2021, Billy Horschel, stated that the LIV golfers shouldn’t be permitted to compete on the DP World Tour at all since “they decided to go play on that tour and they should go play there.”
Sponsorship has been impartial.

Great athletes attract followers and home television watchers. Additionally, a matchup between a LIV golfer and a player on the PGA or DP World Tour would undoubtedly boost ratings. But it’s difficult to predict what will happen to sponsors after that.
