In July 2020, the BMW iX3 production model was unveiled. According to the WLTP, the 80 kWh battery pack, which has a 73.83 kWh useable capacity, offers a range of up to 460 km (290 mi). BMW iX3
The news that BMW would not be selling the iX3 in the USA in March 2020 was disappointing for American BMW fans. Reportedly, the business planned to concentrate on selling the BMW iX3 in China and Europe.
The United States does not considerably pressure manufacturers to offer electric cars, unlike China, the largest market for electric vehicles, or Europe, where there are strict fleet pollution standards. It’s unclear how long such a vehicle will continue to be competitive in Europe and China, therefore it may be best to think of it as a temporary, bench-warming model until a new wave of battery-electric cars enters all SUV classes.
Despite not being intended for North America, the iX3 may nonetheless sound familiar to you. If so, you presumably have in mind the completely unrelated but similarly called iX. That specific battery-electric SUV is in fact coming to the country next year, along with the i4 Gran Coupe, which will cost just a little bit more than the iX3 but have far greater power and range. BMW iX3 unveiled with fresh appearance but no increased range
BMW introduced an electric version of the X3 for the 2021 model year, but the compact, zero-emission crossover, known as the iX3, isn’t sold in the United States.
BMW presented an upgraded iX3 on Wednesday with the identical changes made to the X3 lineup for the 2022 model year, although there are currently no plans to import it into the United States. BMW will instead present the bigger iX SUV and i4 hatchback in its electric lineup.
The additional LEDs at both ends are the most noticeable visual change on the redesigned iX3. With this upgrade, the interior has been improved, and the middle stack now matches the design of the most recent 4-Series. Standard equipment includes a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a screen that size acts as the infotainment center.

According to the more forgiving WLTP standard, which is used in several countries, BMW claims a range of 286 miles, which translates to about 200 miles when using the EPA cycle. Around 60 miles of range can be added in just 10 minutes while charging at 150 kilowatts.
The iX3 is only produced in the BMW factory in Shenyang, China, which is run in partnership with Brilliance Auto.

The German carmaker claimed that the BMW iX3 concept car, which was unveiled in 2018, would be the first electric vehicle to use its fifth-generation electric powertrain technology, which is intended to provide a longer electric range.

Are BMW i3 models sold in the US?
The 2017 model year (MY) BMW i3 will have a 94 Ah/33 kWh (27.2 kW net useable) battery, allowing for enhanced range, according to a May 2016 announcement from BMW. Without changing the external dimensions, the battery pack capacity was raised by more than 50%. In order to increase the energy density of the lithium ion cells and thus the battery capacity and overall battery energy, BMW and Samsung SDI improved the cell-internal packaging with more electrolyte and modified the active material. The updated battery comprises an electronics package with new software mapping for the electric motor and battery cooling system. Both the all-electric i3 and the i3 with the range extender can use the 94 Ah battery pack. The weight was 1,320 kg (2,910 lb) with the larger battery and increased to 1,440 kg (3,170 lb) with the range extender.
The 94 Ah battery in the Range Extender (REx) model is identical to that in the all-electric vehicle. Thanks to a fuel tank that is practically 25% bigger than the previous model, the 2017 REx model offers more range on the American market. Although the fuel tank is physically unaltered, BMW previously used software tailored to the American market to lock out a portion of the tank in order to comply with requirements for vehicles with range extenders because the car had a greater range when running on gasoline than when running entirely on electricity, which would affect its status as a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) in California.
In July 2016, the i3 for the 2017 model year went on sale in Europe and the United States. BMW reports that orders for the bigger battery i3 have surpassed 7,000 units as of August 10th, with 2,358 i3s delivered globally in July, an increase of 33.7% year over year. With 1,479 units sold in July 2016, sales increased by 58.2% from July 2015 and by 143.3% from June 2016. BMW only succeeded in selling 6,276 i3s in the United States in 2017, a 17 percent decrease from 2016. For models from 2017 or 2018, a purchase incentive of up to $10,000 was offered.
Beginning in July 2016, both models with the upgraded battery were supposed to be accessible in the UK, Germany, and France. In some markets, owners of prior i3 models can refit their vehicles with the enhanced battery. The 22 kWh spent batteries will be put to use by BMW in the creation of stationary energy storage systems. In the United States, there is no option for battery retrofit.
