When Was The BMW 3 Series Facelift?

For the 2023 model year, BMW has updated its dependable sports sedan with a crisp exterior and updated interior. New style for the 2023 BMW 3-series includes an angular front bumper and smaller LED headlights.

Facelifted BMW 3 Series: Exclusive images and videos

By all accounts, the BMW 3 Series Facelift is a little design improvement. However, the aesthetic changes are really powerful. We spent a few hours in Munich with the G20 3 Series Sedan earlier this week and were able to photograph some of the modifications to the look. You may view a photo gallery and watch a video walk-around of a facelifted 330i model below.

New lower front fascia, all-new headlights, and a brand-new grille are included in the G20 BMW 3 Series Facelift. However, the majority of you will notice the headlamp change first. With tiny notches on the undersides of its headlights, the pre-LCI 3 Series stood out from the rest of the BMW lineup.

3 Series BMW (F30)

The BMW F30 (sedan version), BMW F31 (wagon version, marketed as “Touring,” and BMW F34 (fastback version, marketed as “Gran Turismo”) compact executive automobiles make up the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series. The F30 generation, which includes the F30/F31/F34 models, was created between October 2011 and 2019 and is frequently referred to as the F30.

The coupe and convertible variants were separated to form the new BMW 4 Series moniker for the sixth generation. Additionally, BMW debuted a unique hatchback variant under the 3 Series moniker known as the 3 Series Gran Turismo (F34).

The F30 is the first generation of 3 Series that only employ electric power steering and a variety of turbocharged engines (replacing the hydraulic power steering systems used previously). In addition, the F30 was the 3 Series’ first three-cylinder engine since its 2015 makeover. In 2016, a brand-new plug-in hybrid F30 model was also released. In China, a long-wheelbase sedan with the model number F35 was offered for sale.

The S55 twin-turbocharged straight-six engine powers the M3 variant (marked F80), which debuted in 2014.

The G20 model of the BMW 3 Series, which replaces the F30, was introduced in March 2019. However, the F34 fastback variant remained in production until the beginning of 2020. Later, in June 2021, it was replaced by the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (G26).

Improvements to the exterior for 2023

The 2023 BMW 3 Series has several small tweaks, just as any facelift model. The new headlights, which are a little bit thinner than the model before the facelift and no longer have the kink at the bottom portion, are the most obvious difference in the front. The recognizable kidney grille has also had a facelift and now includes double sloths and a little more angular appearance (luckily not enormous, here).

The shark nose is another subdued design element that is making a reappearance, albeit it isn’t as prominent as it was on BMW vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s. The test prototype 2024 BMW 5 Series is where we first observed the reappearance of this design element. Additionally, the 2023 BMW 3 Series has larger air intakes for a more aggressive appearance.

On the side of the 2023 BMW 3 Series, not much has changed. For the US market, the basic wheel is still 18 inches, but it now has a new “796” wheel design rather than the “780” wheel type of the outgoing model. The M Shadow line is now included as standard when choosing the M-package, while you are free to choose another finish.

The new, more aggressive rear diffuser, which is larger than the previous model and features updated marker lights, is the only difference at the back. They are now vertically orientated rather than horizontally.

A BMW facelift is what?

An automotive facelift, also referred to as a mid-generational refresh, minor model change, minor model update, or life cycle impulse, refers to changes made to a vehicle’s styling during its production run, such as new sheetmetal, interior design elements, or mechanical changes, to a highly variable degree. This enables a carmaker to modernize a model without completely redesigning it. Facelifts are often launched three years into the production cycle of an automobile, but the life cycle of cars is roughly six to eight years before a full model change.

A facelift keeps the car’s core design and platform but makes aesthetic changes to the front fascia (grille, headlights), rear fascia, bumpers, instrument panel, center console, and numerous body or interior trim accessories. The facelift may or may not be accompanied by mechanical alterations (e.g., changes to the engine, suspension or transmission).

The interior of the facelifted vehicle shares a lot of similarities with the currently available variant. However, the facelifted cars typically have a revised equipment list to keep ahead in the market.

FACT: When an interior gets a facelift, the electronics are typically replaced because they are typically plug-and-play.

What automobiles stand up to the BMW 3 Series?

Alfa Romeo’s assault on the American market continued with the release of the Stelvio crossover and the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia sport sedan, which is offered in three trim levels: base ($38,195), TI ($40,195), and Quadrifoglio ($73,700). The assault started with the small supercar 4C Spider.

The 2.0-liter direct-injected inline four-cylinder engine in the basic and TI has a single turbo, while the 2.9-liter direct-injected V6 in the Quadrifoglio has twin turbochargers.
