When Was BMW 3 Series Facelift?

The BMW G20 (sedan version) and BMW G21 (wagon variant, branded as “Touring”) compact executive automobiles are part of the BMW 3 Series range’s seventh generation. The G20/G21, also referred to as the G20, has been in operation since mid-October 2018 and will undergo a renovation in July 2022.

The 330e plug-in hybrid vehicle is expected to go on sale in 2020, with the M340i, one of the first models in the lineup, going on sale in the spring of 2019. For the G20 generation, the 3 Series Gran Turismo fastback body type was dropped.

BMW has started manufacturing the G20 generation in Mexico for a number of international markets, including the US, in place of the Rosslyn factory in South Africa where the F30 generation vehicles were put together.

(LCI) Facelift[edit]

For the 2016 model year, the facelifted (“Life Cycle Impulse”) variants were released in 2015. Changes include:

  • The 335i versions are replaced with 340i vehicles with the B58 engine (using the N55 engine).
  • Except for the American market, the 330i model (using the B48 engine) replaces the 328i model (using the N20 engine).
  • With the exception of the US market, the 320i engine switches to the B48 from the N20.
  • The 316i and 320i ED are replaced by the 318i model, which has a 3-cylinder B38 engine. As a result, for the first time in its 40-year history, the 318i model isn’t propelled by a 4-cylinder engine.

By all accounts, the BMW 3 Series Facelift is a little design improvement. However, the aesthetic changes are really powerful. We spent a few hours in Munich with the G20 3 Series Sedan earlier this week and were able to photograph some of the modifications to the look. New lower front fascia, all-new headlights, and a brand-new grille are included in the G20 BMW 3 Series Facelift. However, the majority of you will notice the headlamp change first. With tiny notches on the undersides of its headlights, the pre-LCI 3 Series stood out from the rest of the BMW lineup.

The updated 3 Series sedan from BMW features both internal and external cosmetic upgrades in addition to feature updates. Powertrain options for the BMW G20 3 Series are available in a variety of countries, including gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid models. The 2023 BMW 3-Series will soon be available in all markets; its launch in India is anticipated to happen around the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.

With thinner LED headlamps, L-shaped DRLs, and a modified kidney grille design, the car’s front end has been redesigned and now looks more aggressive. New bumpers are added to the back. Additional modifications to the M Sport vehicles include a new grille, M-badging, carbon fiber rear diffuser, new alloy wheels, and a spoiler.

The new BMW curved display, which debuted with the iX electric SUV and boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen with the most recent 8th generation iDrive software, is the largest interior update for the 2023 BMW 3 Series. Wireless smartphone mirroring, voice control, OTA upgrades, and more are available. The climate control panel now has new touch buttons, the gear selector has a new look, and the central air conditioning vents have been reduced in size.

The same engines from the 3 Series before the facelift have been retained, including the 2.0-liter turbo petrol with 255 horsepower, the 330e with 288 horsepower, and the M340i with the 3.0-liter I6 that produces 382 horsepower. All of the engines are coupled to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, and the xDrive AWD system is available on versions like the M340i and 330e.

The 2023 BMW 3-Series is equipped with active and passive safety features, including lane departure warning with lane return, stop and go, traffic light detection, adaptive cruise control with brake function, speed limit display with no-overtaking signal, manual speed Limit sssist, and more.

The current 3 Series is available in conventional wheelbase and long wheelbase versions, with prices ranging from Rs 46 lakh to Rs 65 lakh (sx-showroom). The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Volvo S60, and Jaguar XE are some of the BMW 3 Series’ competitors.

Improvements to the exterior for 2023

The 2023 BMW 3 Series has several small tweaks, just as any facelift model. The new headlights, which are a little bit thinner than the model before the facelift and no longer have the kink at the bottom portion, are the most obvious difference in the front. The recognizable kidney grille has also had a facelift and now includes double sloths and a little more angular appearance (luckily not enormous, here).

The shark nose is another subdued design element that is making a reappearance, albeit it isn’t as prominent as it was on BMW vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s. The test prototype 2024 BMW 5 Series is where we first observed the reappearance of this design element. Additionally, the 2023 BMW 3 Series has larger air intakes for a more aggressive appearance.

On the side of the 2023 BMW 3 Series, not much has changed. For the US market, the basic wheel is still 18 inches, but it now has a new “796” wheel design rather than the “780” wheel type of the outgoing model. The M Shadow line is now included as standard when choosing the M-package, while you are free to choose another finish.

The new, more aggressive rear diffuser, which is larger than the previous model and features updated marker lights, is the only difference at the back. They are now vertically orientated rather than horizontally.

Facelifted BMW 3 Series confirmed for Australia

With updated appearance and an entirely new twin-screen dashboard from the iX and i4 electric cars, BMW’s classic mid-size sedan and wagon series has received its mid-life upgrade.

An Australian launch for the updated 2023 BMW 3 Series is scheduled for the end of 2022.

The facelifted (or Life Cycle Impulse (LCI), in BMW lingo) model arrives three and a half years into the current ‘G20’ 3 Series range’s run and incorporates restyled exterior design elements – though no 4 Series-like towering grilles – as well as a new twin-screen dashboard and other improvements.

As part of the standard-fit M Sport pack, redesigned (but equally-sized) “kidney” grilles sit above new air intake designs with L-shaped accents and are accompanied up front by redesigned LED headlights with reversed arrow-shaped daytime running light signatures.

New 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheel designs fill the wheel arches, and the M Sport, which was previously available only on the M340i, now comes standard with trapezoidal exhaust tips and a lower bumper with more body-colored accents.

A new M Sport Pro optional package adds black external highlights for the grille, windshield, and headlights, as well as M Sport performance brakes with red calipers. The M Sport package also includes a mesh grille pattern and black mirror caps.

The system’s highlights include support for a digital key via users’ iPhones, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, augmented reality navigation, a personal assistant, and 5G connectivity.

A new gear selector for the eight-speed automatic gearbox and touchscreen-controlled three-zone automatic temperature control, which is now standard across the model range, are two more interior improvements.

Under the hood, where the 3 Series still offers a selection of gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains in Europe, nothing has changed.

The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and electric motor in the 330e plug-in hybrid combine for combined outputs of 215kW and 420Nm in XtraBoost mode, with a claimed fuel economy of about two liters per 100 kilometers.

Eight-speed automatic transmissions are standard across all models, driving either the rear wheels of four-cylinder vehicles or all four wheels of the M340i.

Given that global manufacturing is scheduled to begin in the final weeks of 2022, the high-performance M3 Touring wagon has been reserved for Australia, most likely in the first half of 2023.

Autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, (manual) cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are all standard safety features across the lineup. Optional safety features include automatic parking and a 360-degree camera.

Prior to the first Australian sales in the fourth quarter of 2022, the 2023 BMW 3 Series range is scheduled to begin production in July 2022. (October to December).
