The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only golf event on the Korn Ferry Tour where celebrities and amateurs play together across two golf courses over a three-day better-ball format.
On Thursday and Friday, amateurs, famous people, and professionals alternate between two golf courses, Thornblade Club in Greer, South Carolina, and The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The twelve amateur teams with the lowest scores and the four celebrity teams with the lowest scores advance to play Saturday’s final amateur round at Thornblade Club. On Saturday and Sunday, the lowest 65 professionals (including ties) will compete at Thornblade Club.

The competition was won by Mito Pereira last year, and this year’s field includes three previous winners: Rhein Gibson (2019), Michael Arnaud (2018, and Mark Anderson) (2013).
How is the BMW Pro-Am structured?
The event format for professionals is straightforward: the typical 72-hole, stroke-play competition you see most weeks on the Korn Ferry Tour. Lower score prevails.
Net best ball of partners is the format used for the pro-am competition. This implies that each hole is played by both the amateur and the professional. Once the amateur’s handicap is taken into account, the player with the higher score is the one who receives credit. The handicap of each amateur player is unique.
Who will compete in the 2021 BMW Pro Am?
The competition for Horschel, Hatton, and Willett features some of the finest golfers in the world, including world No. 2 and 2021 US Open champion John Rahm and world No. 3 Rory Mcllroy, who is making his first appearance at the tournament since 2019 since winning it in 2014.
How much does playing BMW Pro-Am cost?
A pro-am golf event can cost as little as $3,000 per player or as much as tens of thousands of dollars per player.
The pros that are playing in the pro-am have a significant impact on the cost of the event.
For instance, a PGA Tour pro-am will be more expensive than a Champions Tour or Korn Ferry Tour tournament.
Playing with the most well-known players will cost considerably more money.
A pro-am does not necessarily guarantee a better experience just because it is more expensive.
Golfers have a wide selection of pro-am competitions from which to choose.
Beginning with a lesser-known pro-am and working your way up to the bigger ones can make sense in some cases.
There are some things you should know about the day’s activities if you recently signed up for a pro-am golf tournament.

How skilled must you be to compete in a pro-am?
Consider participating in a PGA Tour pro-am if you’ve ever wanted to play golf alongside a professional. And how do you participate in a pro-am on the PGA Tour or another professional tour? You won’t believe how simple it is, but it is.
The majority of PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and PGA Tour Champions tournaments provide pro-ams that you can join for the correct price, and frequently, each event offers a variety of choices to suit different budgets.
At professional golf tournaments with pro-ams (the men’s majors and the majority of LPGA majors do not have them, for example), there are often a Monday pro-am and a Wednesday pro-am.
Players who aren’t quite as well recognized as those competing on Wednesday usually appear in the Monday pro-am. Thus, the Monday pro-am is less expensive to participate in than the Wednesday pro-am. Except for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is by invitation only and costs upwards of $25,000 for a three-day (perhaps four-day) event, the cost of participating as a solitary player in a pro-am can range from $2,500 to $10,000. Groups can frequently purchase complete foursomes at a little discount.
In the end, the money from the pro-am helps to postpone a portion of the tournament’s expenses and also helps to pay for the tournament’s charitable donations.
Prior to the pro-am, there is usually a pairings party where the amateurs get to meet their pros and have some fun with many of the players who will be taking part in the competition.
In the majority of professional golf competitions, the pro-am format is a one-day affair with one professional playing alongside four amateurs. Usually, a scramble or shamble format is used, with the amateurs’ handicaps being factored into the best-ball score. The amateurs play from higher tees to make it easier while the professionals play off their tees. The winning score is normally under 60, occasionally in the mid-50s, and contains many of eagles and birdies. Frequently, there are two events on the same pro-am day, with separate morning and afternoon sessions.
It’s a good idea to play in pro-ams as you would any other round of golf with friends. Never question the expert on winning. Avoid discussing your course record. Don’t try to brag. Don’t lose your cool. It’s a good time and, if you find a decent pro, a chance to meet some interesting people and have a fantastic time.
If you’re interested in participating in a PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, or PGA Tour Champions pro-am, visit the tournament’s website or call the tournament office for more information.
