Guys, I’ve got it figured out. My 645ci was having the exact same problem. You only need to start the pairing procedure by going to the Bluetooth screen. Now, make sure you enter the same four-digit pin you entered for your phone into the Bluetooth in your car. Choose either 0000 or 1234. (its ur choice the car does not have a preset passkey). Select “confirm passkey” after entering the passkey. That’ll finish it.

The passcode was not “preset” by BMW when I completed mine (also in 2011). I created it myself.
I simply walked in to pair, and it requested my phone’s passcode. The car asked for the passcode after I scrolled to (1) and I entered it, and it then paired.
Simply make up a number; I typically use 0000 or 1234. You don’t ever need to remember it, regardless of what it is. When you pair up, you just make stuff up.
I appreciate you being proactive and posting the passcode so that anybody who read this years from now will still be able to benefit from it.

You not necroposting a 4 year old thread merely to complain that you didn’t get the answer that was actually in the thread numerous times would have prevented our entire discussion.

I’m not sure whether this is what you’re looking for, but I’m going to assume you’re attempting to find the four-digit code that connects your phone to the car. When I synced my iPhone with my brand-new 2010 X5, it requested a passkey. As is customary for most bluetooth setups, I entered 0000. The passkey was quickly accepted, and everything worked perfectly. I also found that you can manually set your own passkey in the settings of the iDrive system. Hope this is useful.

My 2007 X3 and my Razr were easily connected thanks to Tmobile. I just bought a Razr VT and Krazr phone, and when I try to connect them, it says that my passkey is invalid. Anyone who has attempted this and succeeded? Can I ever upgrade my phone to something other than what BMW lists as compatible?
A passkey was included with the paperwork for your car. That is the passkey that you must enter in order for the phone to function. It’s in the documents if you look through them.
Look for a “black box” with labeling in the LH rear covered compartment if you can’t find the passkey information in your Owner’s Manual packet. The passkey code can be found on one of these labels that starts with “PH.” For future use, I cut off one of the labels and tucked it inside my owner’s manual. Hope this was useful.
The location is correct, although it is designated with a “PK” code. It has two labels that read “Continental” and has the appearance of silver. While programming the phone, be sure your key is in the first position.
You are aware that the trunk is a good place to look for a Bluetooth passkey. Have you ever noticed that the trunk has two compartments on either side that are opened by a small push button? The bluetooth hardware with the passkey is inside the left one when you open it. See if that functions. only on the BMW X3
Regards for the advice! Actually, the key is the PK in the trunk. The PK listed in the user manual is inaccurate, thus obviously they mismatched the paperwork with someone else when I purchased the car as a CPO.
Thank you for the idea; I was having trouble connecting my iPhone with the X3, but it worked like a charm. Who would have thought to check the trunk, open the side compartment door, and look for the passcode there? It wasn’t in the owner’s manual, which, I must say, is absolutely useless. Once more, many thanks!
(The dealer informed me that I did not have Bluetooth when I picked up my 2007 X3 yesterday, but I do. Woohoo!
Does anyone here know if it’s feasible to couple two phones with a car and have them both function simultaneously? I am aware that only one phone at a time can place or receive a call.
On a BMW x3, where is the Bluetooth passkey?

What is the Bluetooth pairing passkey?
A passkey is a number that links one Bluetooth-enabled device with another Bluetooth-enabled device (also known as a passcode or pairing code).
Most Bluetooth-enabled gadgets require you to enter a passkey for security reasons.
Note: The default passkeys for Motorola phones and accessories are 0000 or 1234.
How can I pair my iPhone with my BMW via Bluetooth?
On your iPhone, go to “Settings” > “General” > “Siri” and “Settings” > “WiFi” to accomplish this. You may now use Bluetooth to link your iPhone and automobile together. To do this, go to your iPhone’s settings and choose “Bluetooth.” Then select “Manage mobile devices” from the menu under “Media” on the BMW control display.

Anyone can use it because it’s one of the easiest technologies, including first-time smartphone users. For Bluetooth to work, you don’t need to be an expert in technology. Your devices can be connected via the simple pairing procedure.
The two devices merely need to have Bluetooth enabled for it to be possible to find them. Just make sure that both of your gadgets are within range and close by. Your gadgets will immediately connect.
Other gadgets do not require a passkey or PIN. To make pairing between your devices even easier, you may also turn off the Bluetooth passkey.

Why won’t my phone pair with the Bluetooth in my BMW?
The troubleshooting steps that your BMW dealer or Apple Genius might suggest are shown below. Although none of them have been successful for me, it doesn’t harm to try the ones you think might be useful:
- Turn on pairing mode to re-pair the devices after erasing all previously-paired Bluetooth devices (BMW) and the Bluetooth accessories (vehicle) in iOS.
- iOS software update (this often makes the situation worse)
- The iPhone was factory reset (a huge waste of time)
- Reset the network settings on your phone (iOS)
- turn on and off airplane mode
- changing the head unit (BMW)
- Bluetooth should be turned off, then back on.
On my iPhone, where can I find the passkey?
- After selecting Settings, tap Passwords. Choose Passwords & Accounts, then touch Website & App Passwords in iOS 13 or before.
- When asked, use Face ID or Touch ID or enter your passcode.
- Select a website or app to view a password or passkey.
- Tap Delete Password or Delete Passkey to remove a saved password or passkey.
- Tap Edit to make changes to a password or passkey.

What Is a Passkey or PIN?
A Bluetooth passkey is a numerical code that is used to pair two Bluetooth-enabled devices together. You might be prompted to input a passkey while linking a Bluetooth-enabled Garmin automotive equipment with a phone. The passkey may alternatively be referred to as a “PIN” or “passcode” depending on the device you are using.
