Thanks! The roof rails and the weather stripping around the windows, which is typically chrome, are referred to as shadowline exterior trim.

The grill border, the headlamp border, the front vents, the mirrors, and crucially, the rear spoiler are all included in the shadowline package, at least on the m50. The break calipers are also changed from blue to red.
Without that, the front components and mirrors are dark gray, which is a problem. That might look well on some hues, like black or even blue, but if your car is white or gray, using a different gray for the mirrors and other components looks haphazard. I ultimately added shadowline for that reason. The black spoiler, in my opinion, also shines out more. I wasn’t aware at the time whether the standard M50 has a body-colored spoiler or not.
Shadowline Trim: What is it?
My coupe’s mirror snapped off (maybe because I did something dumb, or possibly because the cheap aluminum casting is brittle). I’m getting a replacement part. (CHING!) I find a part number when I search for it using the model and construction date, but it also says “Not for cars with shadow line trim.” Describe the shadow line trim.
All of the posts appear to refer to the rain gutter-like trim that all E-46 coupes have, whether they are black or chrome, when searching this site with the term “shadowline trim.” What connection does this have to the mirror?
I also don’t understand it. How would the mirror be affected by that? From whom are you purchasing the part? Ask that query to the vendor by calling them.
Two tequila shots will cause penetration. My wife forbade me from speaking with my ex because of this.
The shadow line trim is the same size as the other trims, therefore that doesn’t make sense. The only negative that comes to mind is that the shadow line or chrome trims lack the small bumps on top. Other than the m3, that is the only change I have ever noticed with e46 mirrors.
Only a small number of vehicles employ the high-gloss black shade known as Shadowline for their external trim, including M3s and 330s with the performance package (also known as ZHP).
To replicate the high-gloss Shadowline trim, several businesses provide a vinyl wrap that you may apply to your chrome or matte black trim.
Generally speaking:
How it relates to the question you originally posed:
Assumably, the Shadowline-trimmed cars featured glossy mirror hardware that matched, while the rest had matte black mirror gear.
What does the BMW Shadowline Package mean?
The window frames, roof rails, and frame and bars of the BMW kidney grille are all completed in high-gloss black if the Shadowline Package is chosen. The sporty rear bumper features two additional side air-curtain panels in high-gloss black as well as a more noticeable diffuser finished in Dark Shadow.
What is the Shadowline package for the BMW x3?
The optional Shadowline Package enhances the look of the headlights with M Shadowline lighting and includes extended high-gloss black external trim.
What is BMW Shadowline high-gloss?
After picking up my AW 5dr M135i today, I didn’t realize until this evening that the front and rear windows’ outlines are made of black rubber rather than black plastic.
The “Exterior trim, High-gloss Shadowline” option is a free standard option and cannot be deselected, according to the BMW UK configurator. Additionally, M Sport variants come with it.
High-gloss Black is used for the mirror base, mirror frame, and front and rear side window trim.
The surround was plastic rather than rubber on my old 1M, my friend’s E92 M3, and even my old 330D M Sport.
A error been made by the factory? I can see it on my car under the standard options if I enter my VIN into one of the build checkers available:
The rubber on windows is still rubber. The vertical B pillar panels and the separators between the quarterlights and rear windows are the parts with high gloss. the mirrors, too. See images. None of the insects in the group are dead.
It appears to be a five door thing. Only coupes and three-door vehicles have plastic instead of rubber. Shame.
I looked at some old 330D pictures, and they, too, were made of rubber. I suppose it’s because, in contrast to the 5 doors, the coupe and 3dr doors are frameless.
The front glass of the three-door vehicle likely has a rubber covering as well, with the rear window being made of hard, polished plastic.
BMW Individual Shadowline headlights: what are they?
Beginning in March, a few fresh and intriguing features will be available on BMW models in the top tier of the lineup. The introduction of a “nanoparticle filter,” which will be one of the features offered by the 4-zone climate control system, is without a question the most intriguing. It will be offered on the X5, X6, and X7 vehicles from the 8 Series lineup as well as the 7 Series variants. What does it do, though?
According to BMW, this will be a special function supplied by the German manufacturer in this market, capable of removing minute contaminants from the air circulating inside the vehicle. As the date of its launch, in March 2021, approaches, more information regarding how it operates and the full benefits it offers is anticipated. Until then, all versions of the BMW 7 Series will come standard with Integral Active Steering, which is a very welcome improvement, especially for those who choose to drive these luxobarges through Europe’s congested, historic towns.
Even at exceptionally low speeds of less than 3 km/h, the most recent iteration of the Integral Active Steering system causes counter-steering of the rear wheels. This further improves the luxury sedans’ agility when parking, backing out of tight spots, as well as when driving slowly through them. And the smaller turn radius makes a significant impact when considering vehicles up to 5.3 meters in length.
Last but not least, BMW also confirmed the availability of BMW Individual Shadow Line lighting as an optional feature. This will only be offered in conjunction with the optional Laser Light technology and only on the BMW X5 and X6 vehicles. Black inlays on the upper edge of the headlights are a feature of the Individual Shadow Line lighting, according to BMW, “ensuring a particularly expressive front view.” Unfortunately, the Bavarians hadn’t yet released any official pictures of the new headlamps at the time of writing.
Describe Shadowline.
What is a shadow line? 1: the outer edge of a sundial’s gnomon’s shadow. 2: a thicker line denoting the edges furthest from the light source in a linear representation of an item that is meant to be lighted by parallel beams of light
Describe the Shadowline bundle.
What does exterior trim with a shadowline mean? I was told that the extended shadowline trim was the only option right now even though I really wanted the black kidney grills.
The roof rails and the weather stripping around the windows, which is typically chrome, are referred to as shadowline exterior trim.
A few of the high-gloss Black components include the window recess covers, window guide rails, finishers for the B and C pillars, mirror triangles/bases, and mirror frames.
Black kidney grille with high-gloss Black frames and struts, as well as Black Chrome tailpipe finishers, are characteristics of the extended High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim.
Consequently, you won’t have the black kidney grille. but an OEM part can be used to replace it later.
May I get this from somewhere like the dealership’s parts department, or can I ask if they can add 7M9 to my order after the fact?
I think you should be able to make modifications up until your order hits “production begins” (like adding 7M9). However, that would rely on if this choice is still available at that time. If not, your only choice is to purchase and install the grill afterwards. According to what I recall, it is not particularly pricey. For that, there is a different part number (should be in one of the threads). Of course, that component might also occasionally be unavailable. IND Distribution also sells this component (with a markup I think). There are many people in this community that are more informed about the part than I am when it comes to the specifics.
The IND grill is shown here. I recently replaced the one on my M40i; it was a little more difficult because we had parking assist (the camera is attached into the grill), but there are a ton of YouTube videos of people replacing it. Generally speaking, painless
Extended Shadowline Trim: What is it?
Black front kidney grills and exhaust tips make up the extended shadowline trim. Although an attractive addition, air suspension is not strictly necessary for a comfortable ride.
What does BMW mean when they say “without lines”?
It denotes the absence of “M” insignia from the back lid or your fenders. However, there should be enough additional M emblems elsewhere, such as on the wheels, steering wheel, and other locations, so don’t worry about their being missing there.
I firmly believe that only M or M Performance vehicles, such as an M5 or M50d, should bear the M emblem. Hopefully BMW will start to use it more selectively as opposed to everywhere.
Anything with a M on it sells quickly and for a lot of money when I part out E36s M3s on the side.
Does anyone know the exact measurements of this M Performance badge? I was considering purchasing a gloss black “genuine” one from iND, but they don’t offer it for sale in the G05 category. If the dimensions are the same as the E82 1M version, does anyone know?
shiny black My badge measures roughly 54 mm wide by 20 mm high. I suppose this is the stock size; you may look through Mystro’s thread to find out for sure (I think he listed the dimensions).
I’m grateful. I’ll order those tomorrow from my neighborhood dealer. I intend to wrap the roof and black out all insignia, the front grill, and the exhaust tips.
I think the color of part number 51-14-8-058-882 is Cerium Grey. Not Gloss Black, it is not. I’m currently considering whether to purchase these from the dealer and have them put properly on my M50i.
Or at the very least, they ought to have distinctive logos that would make more sense and make the people who pay more feel more honored.
