Nobody could successfully enter the mass market. Thanks to the influence of effective advertising, the Soul went on to become a cultural icon and sell far more vehicles than the xB and xD combined.

Tesla is an outlier in the sales and marketing of automobiles. It does not advertise, instead relying on word-of-mouth and the excellent marketing abilities of Elon Musk, its main supporter. The rest of the automotive industry is in the awkward position of having to promote their conventional vehicles while persuading potential buyers to have a look at one of their options in the electric vehicle market.

Hyundai has made the decision to “grab the bull by the horns,” so to speak. Together with Brady, Brannon, and Rich, it is promoting its new plug-in hybrid and battery electric automobiles in the same lighthearted manner that brought Volkswagen to public attention decades ago.
