What Does Diamond Button On BMW Key Do?

Does anyone have any knowledge of what the key fob’s diamond button is meant to do?

The included manual is incredibly succinct. It refers to a “Headlight courtesy delay feature,” although it’s not entirely clear what this feature performs. “If the standby state is switched on and the high-beam headlights are enabled, the low-beam headlights remain on for an of time,” the text states. Even if “… for a period of time” is meant to be “… for a length of time,” that still doesn’t adequately describe what this feature is.

According to the description, it can only be used when the automobile has just been turned off and the high beams are on. However, when the car is locked, the button appears to have some effect. The inside lights occasionally come on. The headlights occasionally come on. It is quite unpredictable and challenging to duplicate.

What experiences do others have? Has anyone figured out what this button’s actual purpose is?

It is unfortunate that it cannot be set to perform things like open the windows or sunroof, switch on the heating, or other things!

Mine has two options (330e in Belgium): turn on the lights in the house or turn on the air conditioning. In the options for the car, I can select the default function.

It briefly illuminates the headlights in my automobile. Excellent for illuminating the path to your front entrance or finding your car at night in a big parking lot.

Check the “Home lights” setting under “Exterior Light Settings” on your iDrive to make sure it is not set to 0 seconds.

My headlights now turn on for 10 seconds when I hold the diamond button on the key because I set mine to that duration (G20 330i).

not using a key to start the engine

When the weather is hot or cold, this one might come in handy. Many of you might not be aware of this, but you can really run the engine of an E-Series car while you’re somewhere else without needing to leave your keys in the ignition.

Simply turn the ignition key once and press the start/stop button to get started. Then turn off the engine, remove the key, and press the start/stop button once more. Simply because the CAS control module is still awake and has read the signal from your key, your engine will start without a key. Now that the climate control is on, you may turn it on while inside your home, walk out of the car, lock it, and leave it to cool or heat up.

BMW keyless start may also be very helpful if you own an E-Series BMW with comfort access or any F/G-Series vehicle when you need to start your car fast and leave. The road is yours once you get inside your BMW and make sure your key is nearby.

My BMW key fob’s battery has to be changed.

It’s easy to replace the battery in fobs that include removable batteries:

  • Slide out the internal key blade by holding the button at the fob’s base.
  • Utilize the tiny gap around the fob’s edge to pull off the backplate.
  • Replace the battery with a comparable model, either a CR2450 or a CR2032, depending on your fob.
  • Return the internal key blade and clip the backplate into position.

Older rechargeable fobs and diamond-shaped keys are glue-sealed and cannot have the battery changed. The fob can get hurt if you try to pry the backplate off in this situation.

Such programming is possible. Watch where you place the key. You might return to an open car with the windows down if you store it in a pocket or handbag where the button is pressed against something. Blue Peter badge obtained after going there.

Your BMW customer care representative (who often emails you a few weeks after you receive your car) will give you a free key fob cover if you complain to them. The number of “pocket presses” will significantly decrease if you insert your fob backwards into the cover, but you can still press the buttons while it is closed.

What does the BMW key’s button do?

Simply pressing the unlock button on the key fob’s top will unlock your BMW. Within the settings menu of the automobile, you may select whether to unlock all the doors or simply the driver’s door. The alarm system will also be engaged and all the doors, the boot, and the fuel cap will lock when you press the BMW roundel in the key fob’s center. When the lock button is pressed and held down, some models will also fold in the wing mirrors, close the sunroof, and any open windows. Press the boot lid button on the key fob’s bottom to open the boot lid while standing outside the vehicle. For BMWs with automated tailgates, holding it down will unlock the lock and open the boot. There is no need to be concerned if, in the odd case, neither supplied key fob is functional. The integrated key can unlock and lock both the glove box and the vehicle.

Do BMW keys require programming?

Key fobs that have been activated as detailed above can only open your car manually and cannot be used with the Comfort Access feature in E Series BMWs and MINIs.

It is important to code your car to erase the old key profile and set the new key for Comfort Access use in order to activate your new key fob for use with Comfort Access. This can be done at your neighborhood BMW/MINI dealership or we can remotely code it for you.

What does my key fob’s tiny switch do?

If you spot a button with a clockwise-moving circular arrow, you’ll know it’s there. That is the remote engine start button, though the key fob itself does not have a label for it. For those who are already familiar with this button’s use, it involves hitting the lock button first, then the remote engine start button. No problem, isn’t it? Other key fobs include a button in the same location, but they have a different sequence for remotely starting the engine. For instance, Ford key fobs have the same circular arrow emblem with “2x” inside the circle (other key fobs are labeled “X2,” which implies the same). This informs you that in order to remotely start the car’s engine, you must click the button twice. This button is frequently seen in many key fobs, therefore it’s not really thought of as a hidden feature. However, certain automakers, primarily BMW, have introduced redesigned key fobs without the button. However, this does not imply that these key fobs lack these functionalities merely because there isn’t a circular arrow button to click. By rapidly pushing the “lock” button on the key fob, one can remotely start an engine in a new BMW by doing so. You don’t need to become daring and try out this sequence to test if the engine activates after pushing the lock button three times in a single second if your key fob has the circular arrow button. However, if it doesn’t, it won’t harm to try it out and see if it manages to complete the task in some way.

What is the BMW roller mode?

A supposedly Test stand mode or roller mode is not available on all vehicles. This is a unique mode for the brake test as well as for measuring test bench performance. For instance, if you drive a BMW car with the X Drive four-wheel drive off, the roll mode all-wheel drive on the front axle may be deactivated in particular circumstances. Or, to put it another way, just the rear axles are still powered. Additionally, all electronic aids like traction control and ESP are totally deactivated.

A power measurement is typically attainable in this mode without any issues, and the vehicle’s drive/power controls are not automatically made. A pure test result is also actionable. The role mode is frequently activated through a secret menu in BMW automobiles. As an illustration, take the BMW F30 335i. When you push the trip meter reset button on this car for a long time, the unique menu appears.
