Installing BMW roadside assistance: What should I do?
In the video below, BMW How-To demonstrates how BMW Roadside support may help you when your car breaks down or develops a technical issue. You have two options for calling roadside assistance in the event of a breakdown: straight from the warning message or through the assistance menu on the Central Information Display. As an alternative, you can call roadside assistance by phone or use the My BMW app if you are, say, outside the car. You need an active BMW ID with a connected vehicle in the app in order to use Roadside Assistance calls in the My BMW app. Open the My BMW app and select “Call Roadside Assistance”. Accept “Share Vehicle Data” to send the call’s current location and any vehicle data. In this manner, BMW service can assist you more quickly and effectively. Choose “Call” in the pop-up menu to connect to the BMW Service call center. With the vehicle data and your description of the situation, your vehicle can be diagnosed remotely. Either a service car will be sent to your place to assist you or the issue with your vehicle can be fixed remotely. You can monitor the progress of your Roadside Assistance Request in the My BMW App. If a service vehicle is deployed, its anticipated time of arrival is displayed. You can follow the service vehicle’s progress by clicking the map in the Request Status.
Additionally, you can see information on the service truck. Your car’s breakdown or technical issue will be examined by a mechanic when the service truck shows up. In the My BMW app, you receive a confirmation after the service has been completed.

How does BMW accident support work?
For the BMW and Mini brands in the UK, BMW has introduced a new Accident Support service that will provide customers who have been in an accident with aid and guidance as they go through the vehicle recovery and repair periods.
The service, a first for the industry, uses sophisticated on-board software on select BMW vehicles to determine whether an accident has taken place in which the airbags have not been deployed. A notification will then be delivered to the dashboard display of the vehicle. The vehicle will promptly contact emergency services if the airbags have been activated thanks to the Emergency Call feature that is built into the vehicle.
The link to upload pictures of the damage will be sent to the drivers. BMW will send for the vehicle to be recovered right away if the damage is severe enough to require it to be taken off the road. In cases of accidents where no one was at fault, the service will also handle the entire insurance claim.
Users of the service will have access to an online portal where they can schedule a repair at a body shop that has been approved and monitor the status of their insurance claim and repair.
But it’s not just for the most recent models; drivers of older models can also contact BMW and MINI Accident Support by calling a 24-hour hotline at 0344 335 0284.

The BMW emergency call is what?
In a motorcycle collision, every minute matters. BMW Motorrad has developed the “intelligent emergency call” (ECALL) optional attachment so that individuals in need can receive aid right away. The “intelligent emergency call” automatically contacts the BMW call centre in case of an accident to trigger the chain of rescue as fast as possible and – if feasible – to establish initial contact with the victim. The mechanism can additionally be manually triggered. It has been demonstrated that using ECALL systems like this makes it possible for the emergency services to get to the scene of the accident more rapidly.
Instead of just connecting the driver with the neighborhood rescue coordination center, the “intelligent emergency call” sends the vehicle’s coordinates directly to the call center through both automatic and manual activation. With the use of this data, the direction of travel can be determined in addition to the accident location so that even hard-to-locate places can be reached quickly by the emergency services – a breakthrough in the motorcycle sector.
After being informed, the call center makes an effort to reach the victim. The rescue chain can be started without the caller providing any more information. As distinctive as a BMW: The client uses the victim’s preferred language to communicate with and help them. As a result, initial, crucial queries can be answered even before the emergency services are called.
The consequences of the collision and the state of the motorcycle are transmitted via sensors on the motorcycle so that accidents can be reliably recognised and differentiated from typical motorcycle driving situations. Through the indicator on the electronic instrument cluster and the acoustic signal, the driver can determine whether an emergency call has been initiated. A communication device in the helmet is not essential to establish voice communication with the call centre because a vehicle-fixed speaker and microphone are fitted on the right handlebar.

The value of BMW ConnectedDrive
I already use Apple Car Play in my car for things like maps and music. What benefit does connectedDrive provide that I don’t already receive from the vehicle?
I’m curious about your experience with it and whether you think it’s worth renewing.
I paid $150 for the L package and am also from Australia. I also have CarPlay in my X3. After using both for a time, I would recommend not to spend any extra on ConnectedDrive. You do have access to features like traffic updates, online tools, updated maps, remote supervision, and—most importantly—navigational guidance in HUD. You might wish to purchase that package if you consider any of those to be important. But I’ve found that Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze are all better at routing than the built-in maps now that I commute every day during rush hour, when better navigation routing can be useful. In terms of aesthetics, voice guidance, and HUD integration, I still prefer the built-in maps the best, but the routing is simply ineffective. Of late, I have fully stopped using BMW maps. CarPlay’s calling interface, which fills the full screen, is its only drawback. BMW has made many good interface choices, but sadly, a connection to navigation routing is not one of them. If only the routing was on pace with other major providers, I would love to use BMW maps and would gladly pay for them.
