The PGA TOUR Playoffs’ sixth and final event.

The BMW Championship, the last event on the PGA TOUR schedule, has traditionally been a significant occasion for the golfers and attracts one of the top fields in the world. For the playoff event, only the top 70 finishers in the FedExCup overall rankings are eligible. Since 2007, tournament partner BMW has lent their name to the event. For the first time, the BMW Championship and a PGA TOUR event were held in the US state of Delaware in 2022. At the end of a thrilling week of golf at the Wilmington Country Club, Patrick Cantlay made history by becoming the first person to successfully defend a championship at a playoff event. The BMW Championship will make a comeback to Olympia Fields Country Club in 2023. (Chicago, 18th to 25th August).

After play was halted on Thursday, the largest tournament of the DP World Tour will continue on Saturday in England.

The 2022 BMW PGA Championship will resume play on Sunday after being suspended on Thursday due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. With several groups still having to complete their first rounds, play will go back up on Saturday at 6:40 a.m. local time in Surrey, England (1:40 a.m. ET).

The DP World Tour issued a statement saying, “All original second round tee times will stay the same and the second round of the BMW PGA Championship will continue at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.” The players who haven’t finished their first round will start doing so at 7:30 a.m. from the spot on the course where they finished on Thursday.

Instead of the usual 72 holes, the tournament, which is the biggest on the DP World Tour, will only have 54 holes.

The statement read, “The Rolex Series event will now be played over 54 holes with a goal of wrapping up on Sunday as scheduled. “Due to ongoing planning for the state funeral, we are unable to guarantee the staff, amenities, or security of the location on Monday, thus it is not possible to play the entire 72 holes and finish on that day. Flags will continue to fly at half-mast throughout the weekend at Wentworth, and black ribbons will be made available for everyone to wear.”

Because the Englishmen Andy Sullivan and Tommy Fleetwood and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland shared the lead at the end of play on Thursday, their opening rounds of 8-under 64 carry even more significance. With only 36 holes remaining, it will be more challenging for chasers to catch up to those at the top of the leaderboard.

The DP World Tour made no mention of altering the cut, therefore it should be reasonable to presume that it will happen after the first 36 holes. If they want to win the largest trophy on the DP World Tour this weekend, they will need to play immaculate golf since the leaders, Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel, who is also the defending champion, are four shots behind them and Matt Fitzpatrick and Jon Rahm are even farther back.

The BMW PGA Championship’s tee time has changed.

The DP World Tour has decided to continue the 2022 BMW PGA Championship after play was suspended on Thursday following the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II’s demise. Play will now resume on Saturday at 6:40 a.m. local time in Surrey, England, or 1:40 a.m. ET, as several groups obviously still have first-round matches to finish.

The second round of the BMW PGA Championship will resume at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the DP World Tour. All original second round tee times will not change. The players who haven’t finished their first round will start doing so at 7:30 a.m. from the spot on the course where they finished on Thursday.

Soren Kjeldsen and Viktor Hovland are tied for the lead going into Sunday’s third and final round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, the championship event for the DP World Tour was shortened to 54 holes and did not take place on Friday.

Players, officials, and fans observed a two-minute moment of silence before the event resumed on Saturday morning. They also wore black ribbons throughout their second rounds as a mark of respect for the king.

After play resumed, it was an excellent day, with soft conditions and quiet winds making low scoring the norm.

In search of his first victory since the Irish Open in 2015, Kjeldsen of Denmark shot an outstanding eight-under 68 to seize the clubhouse lead at 12-under. Hovland, who was tied for the lead after the first round, also shot a 68 in the afternoon to join him.

After second-round 65s, Rory McIlroy, Rafa Cabrera Bello, and Thomas Detry are only one stroke behind. McIlroy matched his best round at Wentworth by making an eagle and five birdies, giving himself a strong chance to win a second BMW PGA championship.

Along with Shane Lowry, Matt Jordan, and Francesco Molinari, LIV Golfers Talor Gooch and Adrian Otaegui are among the players just two shots back on 10-under par.

The best round of the day was turned in by Min Woo Lee, who shot a 10-under par 62. If the Australian hadn’t bogeyed the par-5 17th hole and then missed his eagle putt on the 18th, it may have been even better.

The leaders after the first round, Tommy Fleetwood and Andy Sullivan, shot scores of 73 and 72, respectively, which were both one over par.

Billy Horschel, the defending champion, is four shots down in the race for consecutive victories.

The Ryder Cup qualification process for Luke Donald’s team began this week, giving European players an additional incentive to win on Sunday in addition to the Rolex Series competition.

Callum Shinkwin and Ian Poulter, two Englishmen, will start the action at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday. The top 65 players and ties advanced to the final round.

At 2.40 p.m., Kjeldsen and Hovland will begin their rounds as the penultimate pair.

While Shane Lowry’s victory at the 2022 BMW PGA Championship has garnered much of the attention despite late charges from players like Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, the LIV Golf Invitational Series’ presence at the Surrey, England venue was the topic of much of the pre-event debate.

Before play was halted on Thursday and Friday due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, verbal punches were tossed early in the tournament week by McIlroy, Billy Horschel, the defending champion, and Ian Poulter. A major selling factor for LIV Golf, the Greg Norman-led and Saudi Arabia-funded series that has long been attacked as a tool for the Kingdom to whitewash its record on human rights, as a result, the DP World Tour cut the competition’s length to 54 holes.

LIV Golf wished success to 15 of its competitors prior to the competition, but left out Justin Harding, who participated in the first three LIV events, and Pablo Larrazabal, who took part in LIV’s inaugural tournament in London. The top five players were represented by two players, the top 20 by six players, three players missed the cut, and one player withdrew (then wound up at the Alabama-Texas game on Saturday).

The BMW Golf Championship is it happening?

Play on Friday morning was canceled by the DP World Tour in respect for Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and the plans for her state funeral.

The BMW PGA Championship will now only consist of 54 holes after the course’s management canceled play on Friday to observe Queen Elizabath II’s passing.

When the news of the Queen’s passing broke on Thursday afternoon, the DP World Tour match at Wentworth outside of London was called off. The event will start again on Saturday morning and end on Sunday.

Due to various issues related to the state burial, the DP World Tour announced that it would not be able to play into Monday.

The DP World Tour released a statement saying, “The decision to resume on Saturday has been reached in compliance with Official National Mourning guidance and in cooperation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)”.

Who took home today’s BMW Golf Championship?

Shane Lowry defeated Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm to win the BMW PGA Championship, snapping a 38-month winless streak on the DP World Tour.

After Friday’s play was canceled due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Wentworth event was truncated to 54 holes. Lowry finished the week with a seven-under 65 and a bogey-free round.

The Irishman won his sixth DP World Tour championship and first since The Open at Royal Portrush in 2019 by finishing the week on 17 under par, one stroke better than his Ryder Cup teammates McIlroy and Rahm.

The round-of-the-day leader Jon Rahm concluded with a 20-foot eagle to finish with a 62 and set the clubhouse goal at 16 under.

Lowry, who entered the final round two strokes behind the lead, started the round with an eagle at the par-five fourth and followed it up with a hole shot from the fringe at the seventh and a 25-foot birdie at the next to get to the turn in 31.

The 35-year-old pulled even with the Spaniard after getting up and down from a greenside bunker to take advantage of the par-five 12th, which he started his back nine with a birdie to make within one of Rahm, who had set the clubhouse target with a round-of-the-day 62.

Before responding with birdies at the 10th, 12th, and hole from the fringe at the 15th to close the gap on Lowry, McIlroy had also eagled the fourth earlier in the day. However, he three-putted from a distance to bogey the eighth.

When McIlroy was unable to make a final-hole eagle to force a play-off, Lowry reached the par-five 18th green in two strokes and two-putted from 20 feet for birdie, setting the clubhouse target. This was enough to win the match.

When Rahm played a five-hole stretch in six under around the turn and then overcame a bogey at the 15th with a birdie-birdie-eagle finish, he tied McIlroy for the lead at 16 under after his eagle try fell just inches short of the target.

Talor Gooch, who shot a final-hole eagle to finish at fourth place, was the highest-ranked LIV Golf player overall. Patrick Reed, who concluded the week in a four-way tie for fifth place, shot a bogey-free 63.

Along with Reed and Thomas Detry of Belgium, overnight co-leaders Soren Kjeldsen and Viktor Hovland also finished on 14 under. Meanwhile, defending champion Billy Horschel shared ninth place with Rafa Cabrera Bello, Francesco Molinari, and Matthieu Pavon.
