The four-door BMW M3 sedan’s coupe counterpart is the BMW M4. The old M3 had a ferociously thirsty 4.0-litre V8 engine that was incredibly powerful. It was swapped out for a twin-turbo 3.0 liter straight-six in the 2014 BMW M4 because that isn’t popular these days. Though lower in size, this engine was not lacking in power and is perhaps a more true representation of an M3/M4 than the roaring V8. The previous 420PS figure was increased to 431PS, providing 0-62 mph acceleration in as little as 4.1 seconds. Later versions of the M4 Competition pack had 450PS.
In addition to being faster than the V8, it is also much more responsive. All engine speeds, not only those where the rev counter is bumping up near the redline, will produce fast acceleration. How is driving like? Thanks to the engine’s added liveliness, quite exciting. The driver may spend more time enjoying the feel-packed steering and high limits of the chassis and less time stressing about constantly being in the appropriate gear. Although it isn’t as exciting as vintage BMW M automobiles, it is still incredibly smooth and pleasurable.
