Park Distance Control, or PDC, is a system of front and rear parking sensors that comes with your BMW. My front parking sensor occasionally believes it is up against anything, which results in the system beeping loudly even when I am well away from any items. Although I am aware that I could just turn the sensors off, I prefer to use the backup camera and the rear sensors. I wouldn’t mind having one sensor stuck on the display showing red if I could just turn off the beeping. IDrive has a volume control, but it’s still surprisingly loud.

I occasionally tow and thought this function would be helpful, but it seems to need some sort of sensor that I don’t have. Without the sensor, the vehicle simply assumes you’re always towing and turns off the PDC. The beeping stops, but the back camera continues to function. I don’t think so, but I can’t recall if the tiny colored squares still appeared or not.
To restore the function after doing this, you must go back to an earlier backup. Once ‘Active’ has been programmed, it is the sole choice available in the trailer operating menu and cannot be changed back. Additionally, fault codes will be generated, but no visible error messages or warning lights will be produced.
I see that you still want the sensor to work without beeping; sadly, it’s the only way I’m aware of can stop the PDC in any way through coding. Although I’m quite sure that will lead to visible warnings and error messages, you could unplug the sensors up front.
Using eSys or, I believe, Bimmercode, you can entirely code out the sensors. However, you can discover that it’s anything as straightforward as something on the sensor, like wax.
Can the back parking sensors be turned off?
Can someone please explain how to turn off the rear parking sensors when a trailer or caravan is connected? I have a Jeep tow pack fitted in my MY14 GC Laredo. Since Park Assist is not installed, there is no option to turn it off on the center console. The uconnect settings don’t offer any possibilities. Are there any instructions on how to connect a switch so that it can be turned off when necessary?
The electrical switch for the trailer hitch should immediately turn off the parking sensors if you plug in. You may also just press the park sense button to switch off the sensors if you are not plugged in. It’s the P-shaped button next to the traffic cone. I think UConnect also has a setting that allows you to turn it off. It may be found, I think, under Controls>Settings>Safety & Driving.

Lane departure? No, it wasn’t that either because it had previously occurred while I was on the phone while seated in the garage. What the heck is this noise?
The hourly reminder is it. It reminds you with brief beeps at the top of each hour. You can disable it. It is in the setting if you have i-drive.
Until I discovered what it was, it drove me mad as well. The following is an excerpt from my manual:

The beeps are so weak that at first I believed I was going mad. Once it started happening frequently, I believed I had to include it on my list of issues. It’s stupid to leave the hourly alarm’s default settings on.
I believed my car, which I had only three weeks ago, had a computer or electrical problem, which would have made me the target of my family’s jeers as they all suggested I get the Lexus IS because of its higher reliability.
