Can I use the key to start my BMW?
You can activate Remote Engine Start by pointing your BMW key fob at your car and pressing the lock button (the BMW Roundel) three times in a row.
Can the mechanical key be used to start a BMW?
Insert your key if your BMW has an ignition. If it doesn’t, insert the key fob into the slot marked with a key next to the steering wheel. Next, apply the brake while holding it, then push the Stop/Start button.
How is a BMW 1 Series started?
There is no need to fiddle with a key to start the engine because your BMW comes equipped with our Comfort Go system as standard. The ignition can be turned on by merely pushing the Start Stop button once while the key fob is still in the vehicle. The engine remains off but all systems start up. By depressing the brake pedal and then pushing the Start Stop button, the ignition and engine are started simultaneously. For models with manual transmissions, just depress the clutch pedal while applying pressure to the brake pedal, and then push the Start Stop button. Your BMW has an Auto Start Stop function that turns the engine off when you brake to a standstill, such as waiting in traffic or at a light, in order to minimize fuel consumption and emissions. The moment you let up on the brake pedal to resume moving, the engine fires up. Simply tap the tiny button located above or next to the Start Stop button to disable this feature if you wish. The Auto Start Stop feature has been turned off, according to an LED light. To reactivate, merely push the button once more. For comfort or safety, there are several circumstances under which Auto Start Stop won’t turn off the engine or when it will. The owner’s manual contains a complete description of these conditions. Keep the brake pedal depressed while stationary and push the Start Stop button to completely turn off the engine. The controls and audio outputs will continue to function. When the handbrake is engaged and the proper gear is chosen, it is safe to get out of the car. When the car is locked, the music and display are then turned off.
How should I use my physical BMW key?
You won’t be able to use keyless entry or remote unlocking if your BMW has Comfort Access if the battery in your key fob has died. You can still enter and manually start your automobile, though.
Press and hold the key release button at the remote fob’s base while unlocking the door of your car, then slide out the internal key blade. This can be used in place of a standard key to unlock your car. You can locate a little hole on the bottom of the handle if the keyhole is hidden on your car door. Use the key blade to pry off the trim panel and expose the keyhole by inserting it into the hole.
Once you’re inside, put your remote key fob in the ignition slot or, if your car doesn’t have one, press it up against the steering column’s key markings. If your key fob dies, you will still be able to start your BMW using the start/stop button on the dashboard.
The best way to start a car without a key
Remove the electronics from the plastic cover that is located underneath the steering wheel. Then, pound or drill a screwdriver into the ignition flaps until it is firmly in place. The screwdriver should then be turned in the same way as an automobile key. This will begin the vehicle.
Why does my BMW key no longer work?
You’ll need a CR2032 battery if your key fob is functioning well but your BMW key fob battery has to be changed. Make sure you’re using the appropriate size of these tiny cells, sometimes referred to as “watch batteries.”
How do you use keys to start a car?
Once you hear the starter motor spinning, turn the key clockwise. When this occurs, it will be obvious because the engine will begin to make noise and the vehicle will begin to tremble. The sound the engine is generating will often sharpen and smooth out after a short period of time. Release your grip on the key at this point to stop the starter motor. Repeat the procedure in case the engine stalls. If not, your efforts were successful.
NOTE: In some more recent vehicles, all you need to do is click a button after inserting the key into the ignition. If so, proceed as directed.
Additionally, the vehicle may have a dead battery or be out of gas if it won’t start or the starter motor doesn’t move at all. If none of these situations apply, a mechanic could be needed for your vehicle.
If my BMW has remote start, how do I know?
Look up the “Remote engine start” option in your Premium Package or in the settings of your iDrive sub-menu to see if your car has BMW remote start. It might be present if your BMW has an iDrive 7.0 (also known as the Live Cockpit) and a digital gauge cluster.

How do you use a key fob to remotely start a car?
- To lock every door, press the Lock button on your key fob.
- Two times on the Remote Start button. Each step must be completed in 3 seconds. When the external lights flash twice, the car will start.
Can a keyless vehicle be started without a key?
You will need to utilize a mobile app or hire a locksmith to start the car as you don’t have a spare key and a push-button ignition. Try a handful of these techniques if you want to start the automobile without the key: Start the car’s engine with the mobile app.
Does every BMW have a remote start?
Only a small number of nations and not all BMWs come equipped with remote start as standard.
If your BMW isn’t equipped with remote start, adding it requires an extra step, but if your vehicle is compatible, it can now be downloaded quickly through the ConnectedDrive Store.
