just experienced a motorway breakdown. About 45 minutes into being in stop-and-go traffic, I pulled off the off-ramp, and the accelerator pedal stopped working. Once I was stopped, the car wouldn’t turn over again to start. I managed to coast to a secure location, and a AAA tow truck managed to get me onto a flat bed with wedges but was unable to put the car in neutral. The tow truck guy was unable to locate the red tool below the car because there was no red tool in my trunk. It was brought to a AAA garage and left overnight in the parking lot. Nobody knew how to put it into neutral the following morning so they could take it into the garage. The ignition sound led them to believe it was a gasoline pump. Fortunately, my foreign vehicle specialist shop was only a quarter of a mile away.
When a second tow truck arrived to relocate it, it was unable to put it in neutral.
After that, he didn’t feel safe towing it (it was also Good Friday at 5 p.m., so the garage it was heading to wasn’t going to be open anyhow).
The third tow truck driver wedged it up and transported it to the garage. Who knows how much harm he caused, but at least he completed the task.
Now, I’ll discuss the problems with the actual car in a later post. Is it truly impossible to put this automobile in neutral so it can be towed?
