Unsurprisingly, the Altima’s CarPlay implementation is wired, and to connect to the system, you can use either the USB-A or USB-C plug up front. With the exception of giving permission on my phone to allow CarPlay to operate while the phone was locked, setting up CarPlay was simple. SiriusXM, sadly, only displays the channel name, while other sources (Bluetooth, USB, FM radio, etc.), when track data is broadcast, display the song name.
The voice control button on the Altima’s steering wheel performs two functions—bringing up the Nissan assistant with a short touch and activating Siri with a long press—as is almost universal among automakers. If you prefer a more tactile experience than the touchscreen, the hardware Tune/Scroll knob can also be used to control the CarPlay interface.
