The BMW Remote Engine Start option is now available for purchase.
A number of updates and new services for BMW automobiles have just been published. BMW owners may now choose from a variety of other options in the ConnectedDrive Store to add to their vehicles in addition to the “Uneven Road Surface alert” feature. One of them allows you to remotely preheat the temperature of your BMW vehicle, and it is called “Remote Engine Start.” While Remote Engine Start has been a feature of BMW vehicles from MY 2019, it is now also available as a new “Function on Demand” that can be added to eligible cars that weren’t initially equipped with it. This functionality can be purchased through the ConnectedDrive Store.
Through Remote Software Upgrade, the new functionality can be downloaded and installed wirelessly. This is a fantastic feature for the sweltering summer and icy winter months. You can preheat the interior by turning on the heat or the air conditioning while starting the engine from inside your house or place of employment.
Simply tap a button in the My BMW app to turn on Remote Engine Start, and your BMW’s engine will start, allowing the cabin to reach the ideal temperature. A triple-click of the lock button on the BMW key fob will also activate Remote Engine Start.
You’ll have to purchase aftermarket. Search for Eurostart. There have to be two or three certified installers around, in my opinion. Quite a few plug and play harnesses exist. Pricey, but well worth it during the winters in the Northeast.
I have now installed the EUROSTART remote start. Good news thus far, But after investing around $1700 USD, I wonder if it was worthwhile. I probably wouldn’t have done it if I had realized it would cost this much up front, but it’s done now.

Yes, quite expensive. If you don’t need a backup key fob, you can save the $480. One key fob had to be paired with the unit during installation in order for it to work. So you’re down to one now. I had to purchase another one from the bmw dealer because I prefer to have a backup.
This morning, the remote start came in useful! NYC received an additional 4″ of snow, and the temperature was around 20 when I went for work.

Two years ago, my remote start from Carlink cost roughly $1,200. (no spare key). Was in Boston at the time and left my car outside; however, I have a heated garage now that I’m in Milwaukee. Still so worthwhile. As long as the car isn’t underground, where it can’t get a signal, you can start it from anywhere if you have the carlink app.
Performance of System

Press and hold the key release button at the remote fob’s base while unlocking the door of your car, then slide out the internal key blade. This can be used in place of a standard key to unlock your car. You can locate a little hole on the bottom of the handle if the keyhole is hidden on your car door. I mistook the button on the roof for the foghter pilot style button. To expose button, press it. Push button for nuclear discharge through the carbon fiber or out the moonroof.
But seriously, if you push it and have a 6MT, the engine will cut out when you let go of the clutch in neutral while holding the brake. When you are prepared to move, engage the clutch, and it restarts. In the options, you may make it default either on or off. Since US spec is typically set to be off, the light is always present. I’ve thought about setting it as the default to be on so I don’t see that stupid light, but when it cuts out, it feels strange, like I’ve destroyed the engine.
