I should point out that it’s not quite elegant, though I’m sure there are ways to improve it. I wouldn’t use it for anything that required instant feedback, like playing games, because there was a lag from the S10+ to the BMW. I tested a few videos and found that they rendered properly on the BMW and that there was no audio lag. However, if you look down at the S10+, it will appear out of sync, which is fine because you’re attempting to watch on the bigger BMW display. YMMV.

Is MirrorLink an Apple CarPlay equivalent?
MirrorLink is a technology system installed in cars that enables users to use the information, entertainment, and communication capabilities of their mobile phone while operating a vehicle safely.
Along with other similar systems like Apple CarPlay for iPhone users and Android Auto, MirrorLink has grown in popularity as smartphone users’ reliance on their devices has increased. This is because the benefits of having access to apps, playlists, and data while driving have become more and more alluring. The main distinction between the three systems is that MirrorLink has been developed as an entirely open source system, whereas Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are closed proprietary systems with ‘built in’ software for functions like navigation or voice controls – as well as the ability to run some externally developed apps.
MirrorLink compatible phones, which were first developed by Nokia for its own mobile phones, are now much more common as a result of the Car Connectivity Consortium, a non-profit industry organization devoted to ensuring secure and straightforward connections between automobiles and smartphones of any brand. Although there are several MirrorLink Android phones available, iPhones are not currently supported. You can check which phone models can be connected at the MirrorLink website. Its goal is to function with as many different smartphone operating systems as possible. In any case, MirrorLink asserts that it is presently the market leader since it is installed in more automobiles and smartphones than any other system.

Is Waze compatible with BMWs?
There are other ways to receive radar and fixed traffic camera warnings while driving, but the most well-known is arguably the Google-owned Waze navigation software.
BMW, on the other hand, wants to provide its consumers a customized solution, therefore the firm went to HERE Technologies and Cedar Electronics for a brand-new system designed especially for this purpose.
The new linked vehicle service warns drivers of live radars and fixed cameras along their routes and is bundled with BMW Traffic Camera Information. The information comes from HERE Safety Cameras, a product that leverages sensor data from Cedar and contains the location of traffic cameras, both mobile and stationary.
For MY 2021 BMW models equipped with Live Cockpit Professional (code SA6U3) and produced starting in July 2020, BMW Traffic Camera Information is available as a three-month trial. The German automaker explains that after the trial period expires, customers can purchase the service with an annual subscription.
The good news is that as long as iDrive Operating System 7 and Live Cockpit Professional are both available, the service will also be accessible for previous models. The ConnectedDrive store is where you may purchase it, once more with a one-year membership.
BMW states that the goal of their technology is to enable “more informed decision-making behind the wheel,” despite the fact that features that notify drivers of the position of radars and cameras have generated some controversy.
It goes without saying that you can always use the community-driven Google app if you don’t want to pay an annual subscription fee to use this feature in your BMW. Waze is available for use on mobile devices and is totally free. It also supports Android Auto and CarPlay.
In reality, the most recent operating system upgrade from BMW also makes Android Auto possible. As a result, if you have an Android phone, you can now use apps like Waze and Google Maps on the dashboard of your vehicle.
