You must have access to the driver’s side of your BMW X6 in order to open the hood. Please refer to the other FAQs on this page for instructions on how to correctly unlock and open the door if You are unable to do so. Once in the driver’s seat, locate a lever with a pictograph of an open hood by scanning the area below the steering wheel and along the dash region. Grab that lever firmly and pull it gently in your direction. The engine hood should start to click, and you should also see it slightly rise. You can feel a small release latch almost exactly in the center of the engine hood if you turn around to the front of your X6 and slip your palm in the space between the grill and the hood. The hood should fully open if you use your finger to flick that. Use the tiny metal rod on the engine’s left side to prop it open if necessary to prevent injury from the engine striking your head.
The primary hood release for the BMW X6 is located on the driver’s kick panel. Draw it closer to you. The hood opens as a result. Just UNDER the hood, in the middle, there is a secondary release.

Step 2: To engage the hood latch, firmly pull outward while holding the release. The lever is connected to the actual latch release mechanism via a release cable.
Step 3: After releasing the latch, the hood will spring open sufficiently to reveal a perceptible space between the fender and the hood line.
Step 5: To help this motion, gently press down on the hood while engaging the latch.
Step 6: Release the pressure to gradually raise the hood up when the secondary release has been engaged.
Step 7: At this point, the hood can be fully opened and held open with the help of a hood shock. This is typically attached at the hood’s base, close to the hinge. Some vehicles provide hood support via a prop rod that must be manually installed.
Step 8: Gently draw the hood lower and firmly close it into place once the necessary repairs or inspections have been finished. Try to pull up on the closed hood to make sure the latch is secure.
