The instructions would be greatly appreciated. Contact me at [email protected]. I’ve experienced some of the same issues. I can share part of what I did in the hopes that it would be helpful. The motors in the trunk need to be turned off first. The fully automated top is driven by three motors. One drives the lid, one drives the top itself, and one drives the front portion of the top (clam shell…whatever you want to call it). I’ve discovered that my bimmer’s release only activates one motor, thus I have to manually deactivate the lid motor. Your lid ought to open once you deactivate the lid motor, which is situated on the left quarter panel of the trunk. Push down on the metal arm that is attached to the two cables to disconnect that motor. The lid should now be able to open. Since this discussion is a little older, I’ll wait to see if this helps before continuing to describe the other steps.

Convertible BMW 4 Series now has One-Touch Top Open/Close.

The BMW 4 Series Convertible was fantastic. We really enjoyed it, though. Being the only Bavarian automobile we would buy without hesitation, it quickly jumped to the top of our list of preferences because almost everything about it felt good.

Like any other car, it had drawbacks as well. The boot space and wind deflector might also be improved, but those criticisms pale in comparison to the issue that troubled us the most: the button for raising the roof.

The way the button functions, not the button itself, is the problem. You see, you have to hold down the button for the duration of the operation to open and close the roof on this car. That is not only very annoying while driving (because it can be raised or down while moving), but also very distracting.

When the Mods4Cars team saw this, they immediately devised a fix: the one-touch open/close mod for the BMW 4 Series Convertible. With just the push of a button, their technology enables you to use the roof.

Simply press it once, and the entire operation will progress without further input from you. Additionally, the gadgets let you to do so at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph), which is roughly twice the speed that BMW set as the default. To top it all off, operating the convertible top is unaffected by turning the ignition on or off and can even be done with the key fob from a distance.

That seems really good, no? It is, and the cost is not at all as high as you might anticipate. The kit for this update costs $379 in the US, not including shipping. On top of that, you may perform the installation yourself, saving money and labor hours, according to their website. Watch the video below below to see how it functions in detail.

On my BMW i8, how can I lower the top?

Eddie Sabatini, production manager, demonstrates lowering the soft top on the 2019 BMW i8 Roadster.

DIETER SABATINI: Hello, men. This is Eddie Sabatini. The stunning 2019 BMW I8 Roadster that we are riding in is a very special car. Additionally, we wanted to demonstrate how the power-retractable soft top deflates for this shortcut. With the simple click of a button, this already attractive vehicle’s profile is significantly changed.

The button is in this stack in the middle. Not where you might expect to find it—up top. Press the button firmly. Windows are closed. The top drops, the hatch opens, and this tiny back window descends. And it’s about finished.

I receive a little notification here, and it is finished. There you have it, then. The BMW I8 roadster has a power retractable soft top.

How much does a BMW convertible top repair cost?

The brand and type of your car determine a lot of the cost of replacing a convertible top. However, the costs often consist of the following:

  • one substitute top (including pop rivets, staples, hold-down cables, and adhesive)
  • a windshield sealant strip (for those who own a vehicle with glass windows with rubber trim)
  • silicone aerosol

Many DIY kits frequently do not include a new curtain window and backlight, so if you intend to complete the project yourself, be sure to buy these separately.

My convertible top won’t open; why?

If you get into your car one day and press the convertible switch in the console but the roof doesn’t go down, don’t be shocked. It has numerous causes and is a widespread issue. Of course, you could always try flicking the switch a couple of times to see if it helps. If you’re fortunate enough, it might just solve the issue, albeit frequently just momentarily. However, if the problem hasn’t gone away after a few tests of the swap, a bigger problem probably exists.

Remember that understanding how convertible tops function is the key to identifying the issue. The good news is that the logic underlying the functionality of all hydraulic convertible top systems is the same. The precise make and model of your car is much less important once you understand it.

Most convertible tops operate in a same manner. Let’s examine the convertible rooftop issues that come up the most often before going over the system in more depth.

  • If a convertible top simply won’t go up or down when the switch is activated, a blown fuse, lift cylinder, or relay could be to blame.
  • The most common reasons for a convertible top to become stuck during operation are a lift cylinder or a broken cable.
  • Another frequent issue is an extremely slow-moving convertible top, which is often brought on by a faulty lift cylinder.
  • Check the electric motor that controls the soft-top or hard-top roof if the previously identified problems don’t appear to be the cause.
  • Ironically, there are situations when a faulty switch is the only problem.

What are some typical BMW 335i issues?

The HPFP is like the arteries if the engine is the problem’s heart. It applies the proper pressure for injecting fuel into the engine. Its rapid depreciation is not the result of anything other than the subpar engineering. It costs a lot to replace, but not only because it is pricey. You will spend about $450 on the machine itself, but the work will increase the cost. If you want to do it yourself, you must be an experienced mechanic. Your best option is to get a vehicle that is still covered by the 120,000-mile/10-year guarantee that BMW offers on the part. By the time it has traveled around 60,000 miles, any N54 335i has likely had its HPFP changed at least once. It affects both the N54 and N55 engines frequently.
