The model number of your lift truck contains data on its basic capacity, fuel type, and (to some extent) age. There are two alternative ways to number things; we’ll start with the more typical one.

Toyota forklifts with a weight capability of 17,500 lbs. Model numbers for new Toyota forklifts often begin with “8, designating a “8-series model. The age of a forklift with a model number starting with “7 may vary depending on the type of equipment.

What year is the forklift I have?

Finding the serial number, which is stamped on the capacity plate of a Hyster or Yale forklift, is the first step in determining its age. The capacity plate, which is also referred to as a name plate or data plate, need to be fastened to the forklift close to the operator seat (sit-down forklifts) or within plain sight (stand-up forklifts). The capacity plate lists the model number, fuel type, various capacity ratings at various lift heights, along with the serial number. OSHA declares: “Do not drive a truck with a nameplate that is damaged or missing.

The year of manufacture is shown by the last character (letter) of a Hyster or Yale forklift serial number since 1995. The symbols I, O, and “Since Q are readily misunderstood, they are not used. Observe the graph below.

Part 3: This part ought to be organized by numbers. It details the order in which the lift truck was made at the factory. For each factory, the production models are numbered starting at 1501.

Part 4: This final paragraph should consist of just one letter. It shows the year in which the lift was produced. Beginning with the letter S in 1995, 1996 was T, 1997 was U, etc. All letters are used, with the exception of I, O, and Q. For reference, see some recent years below.

You’ll see that a letter can refer to more than one year. For instance, “S” might be 1995 or 2018. However, you should be able to determine whether your forklift is 20 years old or brand-new.

Shortcut for Yale models: Cushion forklift tires are present if the model begins with the letter C. Pneumatic forklift tires or pneumatic-shaped solid forklift tires will be on the model if it begins with the letter P.

How can I tell whether my Clark forklift is mine?

The serial number plate, which is often found in the operator’s compartment on the hood or the instrument panel, is stamped with the CLARK serial number. The serial number is stamped into the frame, so you can use that instead if the serial number plate is missing or not legible. The serial number of a CLARK lift truck may be stamped into the frame exterior, the cowl outside, or a fender, depending on its age or type.

How powerful is a forklift’s engine?

Forklift Battery Identification

The forklift battery’s nameplate or an intercell connector that has the relevant battery cell information stamped onto it can be used to properly maintain an industrial motive power forklift battery. The model, number of plates per cell, forklift battery capacity, voltage, and serial number are often included in this data.

Some manufacturers include the rated ampere-hour capacity of a single positive plate in the model or type identification, such as “X75. The total number of positive plates in one cell should be multiplied by this number as an alternative method of calculating the rated forklift battery capacity. Subtract one from the total number of plates and divide by two to get the number of positive plates in a cell. If you wish to determine a forklift battery’s capacity, “19-1=18; 182=9; 9 x 75=675 A.H. forklift battery capacity, therefore X75-19.

Cell Arrangement

For different types of forklift batteries, the individual forklift battery cells, which house the energy-generating elements of the forklift battery, might be stacked slightly differently. Normal cell configurations for 12 volt forklift batteries (6 cells) consist of a single row of 6 cells; for 24 volt batteries (12 cells), two rows of 6 cells each; for 32 volt batteries (16 cells), four rows of 4 cells; and for 36 volt batteries (18 cells), three rows of 6 cells.

However, in order to create the necessary voltage, all motive power forklift battery cells are always wired in series. The total number and size of plates inside each cell determine the cell and forklift battery capacity, which is the amount of ampere-hours or watt-hours that are readily available. However, regardless of cell size, voltage is constant. The nominal output of a lead-acid cell is 2 volts.

Connector Arrangement

Intercell-connectors, which can be lead coated copper straps or casts of solid lead, are used to link cells. By applying heat to the cell terminals, these connections are always welded in the proper order.

Terminal wires that extend beyond the steel tray wall and are fastened permanently to the forklift battery terminal connector draw the entire amount of energy from the forklift battery.

How long are forklift inspection records kept on file?

(Note: According to Cal/OSHA standards, records of daily forklift inspections must be kept for at least a year.) Your forklift checklist should direct you as to what has to be visually and operationally checked.
