The Cars creative design team collaborated with the professionals at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Style Porsche to create a distinctive and entertaining 911 that will help generate money for good causes. It was inspired by the playful Porsche from the Cars animated film series.
For Porsche enthusiasts, Sally Carrera, the stunning blue 911 (type 996), was the series’ highlight character in the popular Pixar/Disney animated film franchise Cars. Sally was only ever offered in CGI or as a single static, full-scale, non-working model up until this point. However, a one-of-a-kind Porsche 911 Carrera GTS that was inspired by Sally Carrera has just been unveiled. It will be auctioned off at this year’s Monterey Car Week in California, and the money raised will go to two distinct charities.
The movie series’ producers, Pixar Animation Studios, the Sonderwunsch team at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Stuttgart, and designers from Style Porsche in Weissach worked together to create the car, which was given the name 911 Sally Special.
According to Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios, “We determined early on that we wanted to build a perfectly drivable 911 – influenced by Sally Carrera, but just not an exact clone.” “Our inspiration came from the fact that Sally Carrera enjoys driving. We pondered what Sally would look like if she were created as a road-approved model today.”
The end result is a unique Porsche 911 Carrera GTS with all of the custom features and meticulous attention to detail that we have come to expect from the professionals at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and their Style Porsche partners. And if someone wins the auction, they will soon be the proud owner of it.

Sally Carrera is a made-up character from the Cars series by Pixar. The character Sally, a 2002 Porsche 911 Carerra, is based on Dawn Welch, owner of the Rock Cafe in Oklahoma. Sally, who migrated from California, where she was a prominent attorney, is the town attorney for Radiator Springs. Bonnie Hunt provides her voiceover.
Lightning McQueen, a Piston Cup racer who has received community service orders following convictions for traffic violations, is in love with Sally. Sally makes an effort to persuade the judge to order McQueen to fix Main Street. Sally shows up in Cars 3 as well.

The protagonist of Cars and a supporting character in Cars 2 and Cars 3 is Sally Carrera. She’s a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera in blue. She is both the proprietor of the Cozy Cone Motel and Radiator Springs’ legal counsel. She generally refers to Lightning McQueen as “Stickers,” who she is in love with (due to the fact that he does not have headlights; only stickers that look like headlights).
As a Californian lawyer in the past, she wasn’t used to living life on the go, so when she moved to Radiator Springs, she took things more slowly. Sally knows how to appreciate life, falling completely in love with Ornament Valley’s splendor and her new pals. Her preferred method of relaxation is a leisurely trip along the mother road.
The one-of-a-kind Porsche 911-based vehicle will be auctioned off for charitable purposes.
In the 2006 Pixar film Cars, the Sally Carrera character made her debut as an attorney who leaves her hectic life in Los Angeles for the sleepy community of Radiator Springs along Route 66. Sally, a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera with a reduced wheelbase, was modeled after Dawn Welch of Rock Cafe in Oklahoma rather than a real person. The movie’s baby blue Porsche, benevolent and feisty, plays Lightning McQueen, a brilliant red Piston Cup race vehicle with a voracious thirst for speed.
Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios have partnered together for a one-of-a-kind effort to transform the animated character into a real-life, street-legal automobile in honor of Sally Carrera’s 20th anniversary, or rather, her original model year, not her role in the film. The Pixar-inspired Sally 2.0 will be unveiled at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, in 2022. It will be a unique model based on the most recent 992-generation Porsche 911.
When finished, the Sally 2.0, based in 992, will be auctioned off for charity, with the money going to Girls Inc., a non-profit that supports girls and young women. Additionally, the funds from the sale will help families affected by the situation in Ukraine through the USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. Sally’s robins-egg-blue (Sally Blue) paint, by coincidence, has a striking resemblance to the blue color of the Ukrainian flag in this regard.
What began as a playful project is now taking shape thanks to the initiative of Cars production designer Bob Pauley and franchise creative director Jay Ward, as well as Style Porsche and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Sally Carrera dedicates herself to serving the community in the movie. She was the perfect person to create this unique Porsche supporting humanitarian causes because of her altruistic traits.
The Zuffenhausen Porsche factory will create the one-of-a-kind road vehicle in Sally Carrera’s honor, and RM Sotheby’s will conduct the sale. Porsche Design is creating a limited-edition watch to go along with the 911 Sally 2.0; it will have distinctive style and design cues from the automobile.
When Porsche removes the cover, we’re eager to see the real-life Sally 2.0, especially in light of the playful design notes and sketches the company shared (pictured above), which are full of witty hints like “shift!” (arrow pointing to what appears to be a manual transmission shift lever! ), “custom updated Sally wheels! Cool,” and “tattoo on wing.” Watch this space for more developments.
The Porsche 911 Sally Special, which will be auctioned off to benefit charity, was inspired by the Pixar heroine with its brilliant blue paint and wheels.
Do you recall the blockbuster movie Cars from 2006? The series persisted even as those of us in the original target audience grew older. It generated spinoffs and sequels starring Dane Cook, and now it will get a Disney+ streaming program of its own.
Therefore, it would be the ideal time to work with a significant manufacturer. Of all, a street-legal vehicle can’t really have Lightning McQueen’s stock-car body, and I doubt anyone would want to drive Mater. On a contemporary Porsche 911, though, why not replicate Sally Carrera’s vivid blue paint and twisted Turbo-style wheels? That is possible. Observe the 2022 Porsche 911 Sally Special, a tribute to Sally Carrera from the Pixar films that exists in the real world.
The early 996-type 911 used in the movie had the most contentious Porsche headlamps, yet its design characteristics complement the current 911 model. The Turbo twist wheels receive a contemporary makeover that echoes the vintage wheel without exacting a duplicate. They complement the Sally Blue paint beautifully and look amazing.
Naturally, something needs to propel those wheels, and the Sally Special delivers the performance you’d anticipate from a unique Porsche. The engine and seven-speed manual gearbox are both from the 911 GTS, giving the small blue car a total of 473 horsepower.
Take notice. With active noise cancellation, outstanding sound quality, and a long-lasting fast-charging battery, these are some of the best earbuds Samsung users can buy.
The interior of Sally was never shown in the original film, probably because it was being used as a (theoretical) advanced life support system by a terrible, emaciated husk of a person. However, the interior of the Sally Special is much nicer. The dashboard, center console, and shift knob all feature inside trim that is also painted Sally Blue. The seats have a distinctive houndstooth design in black, blue, and white that has made me unappreciative of all other interior upholstery. No one has ever appeared this good and never will.
A Kachow Mode knob is added to the steering wheel, and there are embossed trademarks in the leather around the inside. Along with the Sally Special badging, there is even a small illustration of Sally herself, indicating that this Porsche is a special one-of-one model.
There will only ever be one Sally Special, that much is true. The vehicle will be sold during the Monterey Car Week RM Sotheby’s auction, with all earnings going to charity including Girls Inc. and UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency). What could be better than a wonderful car supporting a great cause?
The auction winner will also receive a number of accessories in addition to the automobile. A 302PCE plate duplicate of the ones Sally wears in the movie, a titanium watch, a car cover, and a set of track wheels and tires are also included. After all, the Sally Special is a GTS, the Porsche of the aristocratic enthusiast. Why not run a couple laps around it?
How Sally Was Created
Sally was always intended to be a pleasant blue 911, and of course she is a car that can keep up with her love interest in the movie, Lightning McQueen, and vice versa for McQueen. With the engine at the back, there is no huge grille at the front of the automobile, giving it a very smooth and clean appearance, which the Pixar studio liked. Bob Pauley, a production designer at Pixar, and Jay Ward, the creative director, claimed that this gave Sally more freedom for expressiveness than, say, Sarge the Jeep.
Sally was originally going to be a Porsche 993 generation, but Pixar wanted a modern vehicle like McQueen, so they settled on the 996 generation. Since 85% of Porsche’s customers were men, Porsche had to accept the design, and at first they expressed skepticism regarding Sally’s function as the 911. However, Ward and Pixar retaliated by saying, “It sounds like the area in which you need to grow is in terms of female clients.” Sally was the first licensed car accepted for the film, four years before its premiere, since it struck a chord with Porsche, who liked it.
Porsche created a unique Sally Carrera based on Cars.
Congratulations if you don’t immediately understand what this is. Congratulations on escaping the real parent trap—becoming a parent—in the first place. But hey, at least it’s not Frozen if you’re a parent like us and Pixar’s Cars has already taken over every part of your life.
Since you’re a parent and probably already sleep deprived, irritable, and wondering when we’ll get to the point, we’ll put you out of (at least some of) your agony by telling you that it is what it appears to be: a genuine Porsche Carrera that has been stylized to resemble Sally Carrera.
If you’ve seen as many matinees of Cars as we believe you have, you’ve probably had a lot of questions. When all cars sleep on their wheels, why is there a mattress on the roof of that minivan at the beginning? Why do the lost couple lock their doors when they arrive at Radiator Springs and are concerned for their safety? If their internal organs are the sole thing being protected, why do they have doors and why would they ever be left unlocked in the first place?
The question of whether Porsche should create a real-life, road-legal version of Sally Carrera, replete with a pinstripe tattoo, 996 Turbo-style wheels, and unique metallic blue paint, is probably not something you’ve thought about. However, it does have a one-of-a-kind that Sotheby’s will auction off for charity during Monterey Car Week, along with a matching Porsche Design watch.
Porsche and Pixar collaborate to produce a special “Cars”-themed item for charity.
One of the most adored “Cars” characters was brought to life for charity by Porsche and Pixar.
(KABC) Los Angeles Sally Carrera is one of the most known characters in the “Cars” film series because the animated persona is based on a real Porsche.
Years later, Porsche and Pixar collaborated to design the 911 Sally Special, a real, driveable version of the character.
“A 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera was named Sally Carrera. What would Sally look like today, twenty years from now, if there existed a genuine road car, rather than just an animated character?” the public relations manager for Porsche Cars North America, Frank Weismann, said. And what would such car be used for if it did exist?
RM Sotheby’s will hold an auction for two charity during Monterey Car Week to raise money for their unique partnership between Porsche and Pixar.
“Girls, Inc. is an organization that helps young girls thrive and live better lives by offering mentorship and educational activities. Additionally, the UNHCR, a UN initiative to assist the displaced people, many of them are women and children who have been forced to flee the conflict in Ukraine, “added Weismann.
The highest bidder will receive a very unusual Porsche that has been factory customized with advice from the Pixar creative team in a one-of-a-kind hue.
There will be unique details from the movie everywhere you turn, such as Sally’s rather well-known tattoo and even a “Kachow!” (Lightning McQueen’s signature expression) mode on the drive selector.
The original “Cars” movie debuted in theaters in the summer of 2006, which is now 16 years ago. Many of the young people who watched it back then and were mesmerized by the characters are now old enough to drive. Some may even be old enough to buy a car.
There are no precise predictions as to what the 911 Sally Special would fetch when the bidding starts, but the base Porsche 911 Carrera GTS model that they started with costs roughly $150,000. Everyone is hoping it makes a ton of money because of all the customizing options, the uniqueness of the project, the Pixar magic it contains, and the fact that all proceeds will go to charity.
“The car itself, which is highly unique indeed, hence the name, wasn’t the only important factor. But in Sally’s honor, it was more about giving back “explained Weismann.
