the heaviest load the Hyundai Santa Fe is capable of towing. The mentioned maximum trailer weights only apply to elevations up to 3280 feet (1,000 meters) above sea level. As altitude rises, the reduced air density reduces engine power and, as a result, the car’s ability to climb; as a result, the maximum trailer weight must be adjusted. Every additional 3280 feet (1,000 meters) of travel requires a 10% weight reduction for the vehicle and trailer (or part thereof).

Limited towing capacity for Santa Fe
GuruXTJD5 asked on October 14, 2018 at 03:43 with regards to the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited FWD
We bought a 2017 Santa Fe Limited to tow a 17-foot trailer that weighs 2,800 pounds dry. Dealer promised us that the car could tow 5,000 lbs. and that all we needed to add was a hitch, which they fitted and a 7-pin electrical connector because the vehicle was “Trailer Prep.” A braking controller was also installed. Our issue is that a year after driving and pulling a trailer, the car started making a thumping noise when turning and traveling over bumps. Dealer stated that the car was not adequately equipped from the factory and that the rear springs were damaged from hauling. They rebuilt them with heavy duty springs and struts. Vehicle still makes a thumping noise, which the dealer claims is caused by the vehicle sitting too low and pressing against bolts as a result of defective springs. Dealer also attempted to lift the vehicle by installing new air springs (bags), but they exploded. The dealer basically wants to keep trying to replace springs rather than addressing the issue, and this has been going on for two and a half months. We would be grateful for any advice or solutions.
