While it appears BMW is attempting to lessen how conspicuously reflectors jut out by now coloring them on the G8x chassis, IND continues to offer painted reflectors as a practical way to do away with them. The OE BMW reflectors are used at the beginning of the procedure for a factory fit, and we utilize the same paint procedure we would use to spray an entire car. Each reflector is prepared for painting by being sanded, primed, then painted. We make sure that every letter on the reflector’s face is entirely eliminated, giving the finish identical to that of your factory bumper.

Tools required:
- Socket, 8mm
- Torx T20 Driver
Step 1:
Using a jack or automotive lift with sufficient support, safely raise the car. Three 8mm screws should be taken out from the fender liner region.
Step 2:
The T20 torx screw holding the stock bumper panel to the fender can be removed after the liner screws have been taken out.
Step 3:
From the bumper panel’s bottom, remove three 8mm screws. The factory rear reflector can be reached with ease by peeling the bumper away from the body after the hardware has been taken out.
Step 4:
Squeezing the three retaining tabs on the OEM rear reflector at the same time as moving it away from the bumper releases it.
Step 5:
Removal is the opposite of installation. Reposition the bumper and replace all hardware. Apply uniform pressure as you install the painted IND replacement to complete the installation.

Forget it. I understood it. Guys, if 3M tape doesn’t work for you, tie some thick yarn over the metal clip’s side and slowly pull to release it.
This attractive slideshow demonstrates how to replace the rear reflectors. The images don’t show anything, but the reflector is held in place by a tiny metal clip that is situated near where they are prying. It is relatively simple to do.
It can be taken off most easily with double-sided tape and a L or T-shaped bracket. To fit between the bumper’s indentation and the bracket, it must be thin. Attach the bracket to the reflector with double-sided tape, take it off, and you’re done. Make sure to pull straight because if the reflector strikes the nearby indentation, it may harm the bumper.
If there are any variations between LCI and M sport vs. non-M sport, I would venture to believe that the mechanisms, if not the shape, are the same in both cases.
I believe the rear bumper reflector on the driver’s side of my 2015 M Sport was either broken or not entirely seated following some modest dealer-grade preparation work on the rear bumper.
I recently received one, and I can see that it “slides” in and towards the driver’s side before a spring clip on the reflector’s passenger side keeps a sturdy hook pressed up against a bumper slot. But I can’t get it to pop in without pushing it, so I wanted to bring it up here to make sure there isn’t another trick.
To install my trailer hitch, I had to take out and replace both of the reflectors in my back bumper. The springs on the hatch side of them should pop back in without any effort from you. The spring in your part might just be stiff because it’s new. To depress the spring as it begins to slide into its groove, you can try inserting a plastic pry tool there.
For the record, I had no trouble turning my reflectors back on. They slid right in with only a mild yet firm press.
I’m not sure, but I wonder if there’s a problem with the bumper opening—perhaps it’s too huge for the spring to “grip” onto. I’ll need to search elsewhere for a picture of the bumper there, or, as a last resort, I’ll have to remove the other side to compare.
Yes, I would start by removing the other side. Furthermore, you shouldn’t have to press too firmly. Both of mine came off effortlessly. It shouldn’t feel fragile or like you might break it.
