Using the matching arrows on the adjustment button, the angle of the mirror can then be adjusted up, down, left, or right. The handy auto-dip feature is activated by keeping the toggle in the right hand position. The passenger mirror will automatically tilt downward to provide a better view of the curb and any nearby objects while reverse gear is engaged. Disabling this function requires moving the switch to the left. Either the fold button on the driver’s door or the lock button on the key fob can be used to fold the wing mirrors in. The rearview mirror is simple to manually place in the ideal position.

Either the comfort access lock on the door handle or the key fob lock button can be used for this. Your mirrors will fold in if you just keep it there for a short while.

I recently purchased a used 2018 X1 Sport. I’ve tried briefly depressing the lock button on the key fob, but the door mirrors will not fold. Do ALL X1 models have the ability to fold, or may I only have a simpler model without this capability? In the car settings, I don’t find anything that would enable this. Can I manually fold if necessary if auto folding is not possible? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Your mirrors should be able to be folded if you have a button by the mirror controls. It must be coded if you want it to fold automatically each time you lock the car. Invoking BimmerCode

I appreciate your response, Rounderman. Only buttons to modify each mirror are present by the X1 mirror controls. Therefore, I’m considering the possibility that my model doesn’t support that function (but that seems odd for a BMW)

Thank to everybody. Overall, I believe that since power folding mirrors are not an option on this car, no amount of Bimmercode will be able to activate them.

Can a BMW’s power folding mirrors be folded manually?

Yes, however if you actively hit the button to give yourself more time to fold them in, it means you can leave them unfolded if you expect frost or ice overnight because you won’t have to force them to do so. No matter what, coding will cause them to collapse as soon as the car is locked.

Can you manually fold an electric mirror?

The mirror in my 2016 F16’s power folding version is folded. Ice has accumulated around the mirror’s base as a result of the cold weather. To ensure that there is no ice inside the mirror, I want to manually push it back in slow motion.

I would help, but only by gently pushing the button to unfold. These mirrors may typically be folded and unfolded by hand and pushed into place. If the gears are driven by cable, the spool may also be made of plastic. If I was totally stuck, I wouldn’t try to force it.

If you can find out a means to dry it, warm water might be of assistance. A hair dryer is another choice.

They ought to be durable enough to withstand being manually pushed without breaking (after all, receiving a collision from another vehicle was the inspiration behind the (not-automatically-) folding mirrors).

Last week, I had opposing traffic clip my driver-side mirror, forcing it to slam in. I had to manually open the window and push it out because it wouldn’t fold out with the button and I couldn’t get the second mirror to fold in with the button either (I assumed they would fold out together again with the button). Once it was unfolded once more, the button was used to fold in and out both mirrors.

I was terrified to look for cracks or scratches the touch might have left behind, but I later learned there was absolutely no damage at all. Even though it may have helped that it was raining, I’m still happy with the outcome (especially as this happened on a narrow street with busy traffic in both directions making it impossible to go after the one that hit me…)

I carefully fold them out to where they normally sit and then click the button. I physically press the right side one inward till it snaps to the base after it folds out farther toward the front. It’s all back to normal now.

The gear is made of metal, based on what I can see. I didn’t investigate them further, but it might be cast iron or aluminum.

How are side mirrors operated?

The purpose of a side-view mirror, sometimes referred to as a side mirror or wing mirror, is to aid the driver in seeing regions behind and to the sides of the vehicle that are out of the driver’s line of sight (in the “blind spot”).

The side mirrors are almost universally mounted on the doors of contemporary cars, typically at the A-pillar (the portion of the body above the wheel well).

To accommodate drivers of different heights and seating positions, the side mirror is fitted with manual or remote vertical and horizontal adjustment. Bowden cables or geared motors can be used for mechanical or electric remote adjustment, respectively. To lessen glare from the headlights of following vehicles, the mirror glass may also be electrochromically dimmed and electrically heated. The side mirror is increasingly being integrated with the vehicle’s turn signal repeaters. There is evidence that repeaters put on mirrors may be more successful than repeaters mounted in the fender side location, which was formerly more common.

Electric mirrors can be manually adjusted, right?

The driver should take a seat. Place the seat and steering wheel so that you can access the gear shifter, brake pedal, and accelerator while still feeling comfortable.

Move the rearview mirror gently so that you can look straight out of the back windshield’s center without turning your head. The idea is to be able to gaze swiftly from one route to the other without having to turn or shift your body.

A rearview mirror should be adjusted when you are seated as usual.

Find the side mirror adjustment levers or buttons. On the driver’s side door of many more recent versions, there is a little lever or joystick that electronically adjusts the side mirrors. Older models frequently need to be manually adjusted by pushing on the mirror or using a lever.

Never play with these buttons while operating a vehicle.

First, adjust the side mirror on the driver. Adjust as necessary, then recline in the driver’s seat so you can see the road behind you and a small portion of your vehicle’s side.

Next, adjust the mirror on the passenger side. If you have to adjust it manually, you might have to alternate between the driver’s and passenger seats to get it just right.

Sit in the driver’s seat and check each mirror after they have all been adjusted, beginning with the driver’s side mirror. As you go along, you should take in everything behind you in segments.
