2. Connect your automobile and Windows laptop with your D-CAN FTDI cable.
3. Set the second position on your automobile key.
Launch BMWFlash.
5. To install FTDI Drivers, click YES.
6. This window with the green bar should appear if your cable is connected in and ready to read the ECU.
*Note: If you purchased the cable we advised, it should have the designation FT232R rather than D-CAN.
Seven. Choose File > Read DME.
8. Click YES to download the whole contents of the ROM. This file will function as a backup file if problems arise in the future for any reason, therefore save a duplicate of it somewhere secure on your computer. It will take a while to read this; roughly 15-20 minutes.
9. BMWFlash now starts to read your ECU.
10. Rename using the structure shown here: Full Name-Base-Vehicle Year File saving.

One of the users has started a thread about installing a Bosch MEV17.4.6 from an E92 320i in his 2011. Additionally, it is the exact same model as my automobile. Since the E92’s + E92’s 320i uses the DME, there were a few posts regarding flashing the “program” to the DME of the E92.
What specific data is flashed to the E92 DME to enable it to work properly with the 2.0l motor, and where does one find the values to import the data, is the question I have.
I ask because I really want to know and because I recently updated my dme using istap, which I may have done incorrectly. My car displays error codes for a misfire in cylinders 1 and 2. I once more flashed my DME using the bmw tools “winkfp, ecu finder…” to install the correct version, however my issue hasn’t been resolved.
Additionally, if there is a way for me to obtain my original “.bin” file so that I can tweak it if at all feasible, please, please, please let me know. Just teach me about flashing the DME, please.
How to Use WinKFP to Update and Program the DME of Your BMW
Do you wish to access and modify the DME on your BMW? WinKFP, a piece of BMW software, can be used to accomplish this.
Bmw Euro Tuning’s video tutorial demonstrates how to update or flash your DME using WinKFP. View it in the video down below:
Digital Motor Electronics is referred to as DME. Basically, this is the engine management system for your BMW. The system regulates the crucial elements of your engine’s operation and performance. DME guarantees that your engine is operating at its highest level of performance and dependability while using the least amount of fuel and emitting the fewest emissions. The system scans and analyzes data, such as speed, throttle and accelerator position, coolant temperature, air density and temperature, air intake volume, engine speed, electrical power system, and many others, that may have an impact on the performance of your engine.
On the other side, the WinKP software is a programming or flashing tool for BMWs with E-chassis. It is mostly used to program control modules, update vehicle modules, and troubleshoot auto problems.
We would like to express our gratitude to BMW Euro Tuning for creating the video guide. Please visit his channel to for more informative videos.

What is BMW DME?
The comprehensive engine management system: The engine is controlled by Digital Motor Electronics (DME), which ensures the best reliability, highest performance, and least amount of fuel use and pollution.
Digital Motor Electronics (DME), which controls important engine functions, ensures maximum performance, minimal fuel use, and low emissions. Its sensors continuously monitor every element affecting how the engine runs. A microprocessor analyzes the data after which it converts it into instructions for the fuel injection and ignition systems.
Up to 1,000 distinct pieces of data, including as engine speed, air intake volume, air temperature and density, coolant temperature, throttle position, accelerator position, and vehicle speed, are entered into the DME system every second.
DME validates every incoming data by contrasting it with how the rest of the system responds. DME replaces inaccurate data from faulty sensors with predetermined standard values. In order to avoid engine damage in the case of a spark plug failure, DME immediately stops fuel flow to this cylinder.
Aside from monitoring the battery’s charge and health, DME also monitors the electrical power system by using sensors to gauge how much electricity is being used right now. It helps to ensure that the engine always starts easily by maintaining optimal battery charge levels and preventing flat batteries, which prevents damage to the battery and ensures maximum battery life.
Can the BMW DME be fixed?
- Your vehicle’s ECU and DME should be removed.
- Send your part to us. A part collecting service is not something we offer.
- Either a replacement or repair service will be suggested.
- You can reinstall your part in the car once we’ve fixed it. No additional services or coding are necessary for any of our repair or clone services; they are all 100% plug-and-play.
- Can you fix an ECU or DME?
A BMW DME can be fixed, yes. In order to determine whether the damaged DME can be repaired, a diagnostic examination is first required. A DME can potentially be fixed and restored. A reconditioned replacement DME can also be installed as an alternative.
Describe DME BMW E46.
Siemens developed digital engine management systems (referred to as Digital Motor Electronics or DME) are installed in BMW E46 automobiles (1999–2005 3-Series). These systems have software that is programmed into the engine control module (ECM) to control fuel injection, ignition, and other operations.
Why is DME locked by BMW?
BMW’s most recent F-Series and G-Series cars include Bosch ECU/DMEs that are pre-locked from the factory to prevent tuning changes made over the OBD2 port. After March 2019, this normally affects the majority of cars using BMW software (M140i, M340i, M2 Competition, M3, M4, M5, M8, etc).
Your BMW F & G Series DME/ECU needs to be reprogrammed with a new patch that permits OBD2 tuning/reprogramming in order to enable OBD2 tuning capabilities for bootmod3. This one-time fix is entirely secure and does not affect the vehicle’s performance as it was when it left the manufacturer.
Describe a DME flash.

How can you start a BMW in terminal 15?
Regarding keyless ignition switches, I have a stupid query. I’ve seen that as a first step, you “change your ignition switch to R or terminal 15” in a number of manuals and how-to instruction pamphlets. Could someone kindly explain how a 2005 745i keyless ignition works? See, I warned you that was foolish, but I’m not really sure of the solution. Thanks
what instructions should be included in flyers? You intend to start the vehicle. Put the remote in your lap, depress the brake, and push the start/stop button while sitting in the car.
Can the BMW computer be reset?
My automobile won’t turn over. After some web study, it appears that the ECU is most likely the problem. How can the factory settings be restored on a BMW computer?
In less than two minutes, find out if your auto insurance is being overcharged.
Amazing investigative abilities! Unplugging the negative battery cable for 10 to 15 minutes will reset a BMW ECU. For most BMW models, this ought to be sufficient to reset the ECU.
You can also try jumpstarting your car to reset it if this doesn’t work. If a low battery is the problem, this will also be helpful!
However, if you still have trouble starting your car after jumping the battery, you should speak with a mechanic to find out more about what’s going on.
Save money on your car insurance with the Jerryaan insurance comparison app, which searches for inexpensive prices with more than 50 different insurance companies for free. This will help offset the cost of expert repairs.
You may make adjustments at any time, receive prices instantly, and text an agent with any queries you may have. Each year, $887 is saved by the typical Jerry user.
What is BMW Bootmod?

What is the price of reprogramming a BMW ECU?
The parts should cost between $400 and $1,400 on average, while labor should cost between $100 and $200 for installation and reprogramming. With a refurbished ECU, you might be able to save some money, but there is typically some danger involved.
