Okay, so while the distinctions between them are slight and they are admittedly rather near, meteorite gray is likely the closest match to the polished metal metallic in terms of appearance. A warmer undertone gave Modern Steel a more neutral gray appearance. The undertone of modern steel had more of a cold tone or blue color. Meteorite gray also has this cold undertone, but it leans more purple than blue (at least from the image). In addition, based on other photographs I’ve seen, I believe that meteorite gray is deeper in person than polished metal and modern steel, having a tone that is more like to graphite.
Unless you’re looking at them very closely, there might also be minute variations, such as the size of the metallic fleck in the paint. Mostly, I believe Honda sought to reduce the number of available gray options (perhaps due to the varying production origins, suppliers, etc. of each model) and as a result, it selected a single metallic gray that, perhaps, straddled the two.
The contrasts between the three would probably be easier to see next to one another in the same lighting than they ever could be in separate images.
