A 2012 650i Convertible with 23K miles was recently purchased. It is preloaded with voice recordings and radio/navigation presets from the previous owner. Just a ton of info that has been preserved. Is it feasible to remove everything from this and transmit it in its original form?

I am aware of how to delete radio presets, but I would like to know how to delete everything, including navigation history, store data, radio content, all drivers, and all recorded music.
There must be a technique they employ to accomplish this when a car is traded to the dealer, right? They are unable to assign a tech to delete each and every item, and searching for everything takes hours.
Go to settings from the iDrive main menu. Position the iDrive controller to the right while in the settings menu. After that, move it to the right one more time to see the option to remove all personal information. I haven’t used it, but it’s in my car.

Read an interesting post about this. I want to know what happens if you disconnect the battery because I’m new to iDrive. or disable the iDrive’s control fuse?
I’m not sure, but you might not want to completely disconnect the batteries in a BMW without taking some precautions because I’ve heard that if the car loses all power, it might enter an anti-theft mode. I’m not sure because I don’t work on my autos.
Anyhow, that wasn’t the type of reset the OP was referring about.
When you lock the car and turn it off, iDrive completely shuts off for roughly 12 minutes. In most BMWs, you can restart the computer for the idrive system, navigation, etc. by holding down the volume button for 20 to 25 seconds constantly. The volume is only momentarily turned off when the volume button is pressed; the system is not restarted.
I recently purchased a 2011 E92 and want to clear all contacts, navigation destinations, radio and memory presets, etc. While searching for information on this, I’ve been driving myself crazy.
I would have checked my owner’s manual, but the dealer had to order one for me, so I won’t get it for a few days.
I haven’t discovered a way to accomplish this using the user interface, button combinations, or programming. The only thing I am aware of is restarting iDrive, not wiping to factory settings.
With factory software, you can erase anything, but the average user cannot do this.
The simplest solution is to just replace the settings with your own. Additionally, as Technic noted, rebooting the iDrive will only lose a minute when it starts back up.
Resetting BMW iDrive 8 hard
Over the months of December and January, I test-driven the electric BMW iX. Although I was given the xDrive 40 model, I traveled to Germany in October 2021 to see the xDrive 50’s European introduction. My article on that is available here.
I tried every piece of technology I could throughout my time with the iX. Using Digital Key Plus, I registered my iPhone 13 Pro and Apple Watch Series 6 as automobile keys. Additionally, I connected the My BMW app to the vehicle so I could use several features from a distance. This includes using the hooter, the climate control, the lights, or locking/unlocking the automobile.
Additionally, it gave me access to real-time data on the battery’s condition, range, and other details like when I charge the car. I often receive push alerts when the charge has started, an update if an error occurs, and a final update when the charge is finished.
The car ceased warning me about the charge info, range, and battery health somewhere between December and January. I’m not sure if it was caused by entering the year 2022 or if there was a bug, but I too didn’t receive a record of my charge history despite charging the car frequently up until January 13 when I was able to resolve the problem.
I tried everything, including logging out of the app, removing the car from the phone’s Bluetooth settings, deleting the app, etc., but nothing worked. Since the iX is also the first vehicle to use iDrive 8, BMW’s most recent operating system, a repair was obviously challenging to locate. Another reason is that cars with operating system 7 no longer have a physical power button.
Giving iDrive 8 a hard reset is the solution. Remember that doing this is equivalent to performing a hard reset on your iPhone; it only clears the cache and repairs issues, not any data.
You may already be aware that the infotainment system is still accessible when the car is started without the brake being applied. I used the volume key to try to hard reset it in this manner, but nothing happened.
A short thank you to Stefan at BMW Midrand who assisted me. He was in the product division before, but is now in sales. He informed BMW that the lack of a power button for a hard reset is a problem. He advised me to start the car correctly, with my foot on the brake, and then to perform a hard reset. It succeeded.
What is a BMW I3 iDrive reset?
Let’s begin right away! You must reset the computer to reboot your BMW I3. Although it may seem difficult or convoluted, there are only four easy steps needed to complete that. Restarting your BMW I3’s computer requires the following steps.

They should be your first stop when you suspect a problem with your car because they contain the proper manufacturer recommendations. Do not worry if you cannot find your I3’s handbook. Versions for download are available online; just make sure they are the right make and model for your automobile.
Simply enter your make and model followed by the words “user manual pdf” to locate them. You may always access a manual because a digital version will typically be within the top few results!
In particular if your BMW I3 is still covered by warranty, you may want to think about getting in touch with the manufacturer, the dealer, or the mechanic if the reset doesn’t work. In these circumstances, they can examine the vehicle and make any necessary repairs without charging you.

How do I get rid of my BMW ID?
In the My BMW App, how do I erase my BMW ID? Select the gear icon for “Settings” at the top right of the “Profile” page, then “Profile Data” > “Your Profile” > “Account Data” to delete your BMW ID from the My BMW App.
How can I clean my iDrive?
You can create a one-to-one match of the local data in the backup set to your account using the Archive Cleanup tool.
If you remove data from your computer that has previously been backed up, that data will also be permanently removed from your IDrive account.
- Click Archive Cleanup in the tool bar under the Backup tab.
- Then select Cleanup Now. A list of the items you want to remove from your account will be generated by IDrive.
- To permanently remove the files from your account, click Delete.
Alternately, you can create recurring automated cleanup by checking the Periodic Cleanup box. Decide how many days and what proportion of the data should be cleaned up.
Note:
- By default, Archive Cleanup evaluates up to 25% of the files in your account’s total backed-up data as candidates for deletion. This will prevent significant file deletions from happening in your account as a result of changes to the program settings or the content of your backup set. Additionally, you can adjust the percentage to suit your tastes.
- To make room in your account, Archive Cleanup permanently deletes material that is no longer present on your machine. Empty folders must be explicitly deleted by users in order to be removed from the account.
- Data from your IDrive account could be automatically deleted as a result of periodic cleanup. Be careful when using/setting this option.
- The reference to a percentage refers to the proportion of your account’s total number of files that are files that are being considered for deletion. This percentage-based control’s goal is to prevent significant file deletions from occurring in your account as a result of unplanned computer events.
