One side of the microfiber is extremely soft for “polishing,” and the other is smoother and more “abrasive” for cleaning. I wouldn’t clean the screen with any strong chemicals because they can have long-term effects. The only product I would use is Griot’s window cleaner because it mostly contains purified water with a trace amount of alcohol.

Regardless of the spray cleaner you choose to use, I always spray the cleaning cloth (microfiber, cotton, etc.) but NOT the surface that has to be cleaned. You don’t want any overspray to end up on any delicate devices. I understand that it’s unlikely that anything behind the display will be harmed by overspray, but if you regularly use this “method,” it’s more likely that you’ll develop a positive habit rather than a negative one.

Sprayed water or LCD screen cleanser onto a microfiber cloth, wipe off surfaces, rotate cloth, and remove swirls. To reach the corners, wrap a q-tip in a microfiber cloth. Finish by blowing out any lingering dust or lint using compressed air.
For my screen and controls, I use Einszett Cockpit Plus, and 303 for everything else. Where the cockpit plus works well, I find that there are 303 streaks on the screen.
I shouldn’t whine, but I do occasionally.
So far, life has been good to me.
The Chemical Guys Clear Sealwill effectively clean and safeguard the surface. I also apply it to coated wood, gauge covers made of plastic, etc. I enjoy using it on my laptop, phone, iPod, and PS3 when I’m not driving.
I’m going to have to check to see if I can change the screen cover on my navigation screen because before I received the car, someone cleaned the screen improperly. It works nicely to use microfiber clothing and good glass or electronics cleaner.
Avoid attempting to wipe away dust with a dry cloth since the screen is extremely static and has a tendency to grab dust like a magnet. To remove light surface scratches from electronics, use a damp 100% cotton towel. Computer and television screens respond nicely to Kiwi Brands Endust for Electronics or Plexus(r) Plastic Cleaner, Protectant & Polish. To reach the corners of a q-tip, wrap a microfiber towel over it.
In terms of stains and greasy markings, mine is filthy. I’ve tried microfiber clothing, screen wipes, and other things, but when the sun is shining it still looks smeary, and that irritates me!
The idea is that since most liquids leave a smear, the best course of action is to use a plastic-safe cleaner to remove debris, let it dry, and then use a lens cleaning cloth to polish the dried screen to thoroughly eliminate streaks. This is what creepy coupe suggests.
That was my usage. NEVER EVER let it appear on the iDrive screen. Mine was absolutely bugged. As soon as I pointed out that their cleaner was to blame for it becoming completely unusable, my wonderful local BMW shop replaced it under warranty. By the way, I didn’t intend to use it to wipe the screen; I simply oversprayed.
Why does cleaning the screen need to be so difficult, as I previously stated? With the same handkerchief he used to wipe the snot from his children’s faces, my brother cleaned the screen in his Acura. After that, everything looked fantastic! LOL
Dust and fingerprints can be removed from the screen by softly wiping it off with a clean mf towel dampened with a light mist of 1Z einszett Cockpit.
I know you are the detailing expert, Phil, but have you or someone you know well used it on the more recent BMW navigation screens? Do you have a particular MF towel that you would suggest using for the task?
I just picked up my car from the shop, and the entire screen has a line that I’m positive wasn’t there before they cleaned my car.
When Navigation is turned on, I can hardly see it, but my brain recognizes it.
I thought your nav system had just been replaced. It’s possible that the replacement screen has a defect or that they scratched it during installation. If it were me, I would draw attention to it and ask them to fix it.
Ever since I scratched the navigation screen on my 550, I first use a can of compressed air to remove all the dust. Just as simple to scratch is the instrument cluster. Every time, I feel like I’m defusing a bomb, so I’m very cautious.

What will effectively clean a car’s dashboard?
Typically, a straightforward oil soap and water combination works the best for cleaning a car dashboard. You can use Castile soap, a wonderful oil soap with various applications. While still being soft enough for fabrics like leather, this kind of soap is robust enough to offer a complete cleaning. You may also create a solution using vinegar, detergent, water, and oil-based soap to remove very tough stains from a plastic, vinyl, or rubber dashboard.
There are several solutions available for car owners who would like to buy a commercial product than prepare their own cleaner. Both Auto Guys and Chemical Guys provide excellent car cleansers. What should never be applied to an LCD screen for cleaning?
Never assume that LCD screens operate similarly to your nifty new iPad. Touching should generally be prohibited since excessive pressure on the screen might actually crack or break pixels. Therefore, the first rule of cleaning an LCD panel is to avoid doing it until you really must (that is, unless it’s actually dirty).
Second rule: go slowly. Following the establishment of these guidelines, you must be aware of which cleaning agents to employ and which to avoid.
Although many stores provide specialized cleaning products for LCD screens, the majority of them are actually essentially water-based. Therefore, you can make your own LCD cleaner by combining water with some vinegar or isopropyl alcohol; the solution should be no more than 50/50. If you don’t want to take the time to go buy a cleaner or you want to save money (perhaps to put toward that “What Not to Wear” dress), you can also do this.
If you want to remove oily fingerprints, you might simply start with simple water and determine if you need the vinegar or alcohol afterwards. Regular water works just well, despite some experts only advising using distilled water, according to Sharp’s Dave Chipman.
Avoid using any spray cleansers unless you want to wind up with an LCD screen that is melted, discolored, foggy, or scratched. Avoid using solvent cleaners that contain acetone, ethyl alcohol, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride in particular. Additionally, stay away from anything that can end up scratching the screen’s sensitive surface. Instead of using wood-based items like paper towels and tissues, choose a nice, clean cotton cloth. For optimal results, Chipman advises using a microfiber cloth.
You are prepared to start cleaning now that you are equipped with the necessary cleaning supplies.
Make sure your television or monitor isn’t accidentally damaged by someone trying to clean it with anything like glass cleaner if you’re fortunate enough to have a service come in and do your cleaning for you. Either take the time to describe and possibly even demonstrate how you want your LCD screen cleaned, or simply request that your cleaner leave this particular task for you.
How can I keep my car’s screen clean of fingerprints?
Today’s new cars typically incorporate a touchscreen dashboard display. The infotainment system makes use of this screen.
However, smudges and fingerprints are continuously marring the glossy black screen.
No matter how thoroughly you wash your hands, fingerprint stains will still appear on the touchscreen of the car. As a result, all you can do is keep cleaning the screen.
Avoid touching the screen as much as possible by using the steering-wheel-mounted controls to access the menu.
Never use a dry cloth to clean the car touchscreen if and when you do so.
In fact, don’t even attempt to wipe the touchscreen with a damp cloth until all of the dust that has accumulated on the screen has been brushed off.
It would be best to use a cleaning kit, which is available from most computer stores and includes a soft brush, cleaning solution, and microfiber cloth.
Remove all of the dust from the screen and the area around it with a brush before misting the screen with some of the cleaner.
Before wiping the touchscreen with a microfiber cloth to avoid scratches, make sure the touchscreen and any nearby shiny trimmings are dusted.
An alternative is to buy an interior detailing product for cars. The ones from reputable companies can also be used to clean touchscreens in cars and dashboards.
The clarity of the automobile touchscreen is somewhat reduced by these matte-finish “protectors,” and although it may seem as though no fingerprints are left behind, in reality they are merely a bit less noticeable.
Using a rubber-tipped stylus pen is the greatest way to completely avoid touching the screen with your fingertips.
It doesn’t leave a mark, but using it—especially when moving—can be annoying and challenging.
Or, if it really bothers you, don’t use the touchscreen or just leave it on one setting.
Can you wipe an LCD screen with water?
Off-load the laptop or computer. Start by letting the device totally cool down for safety reasons. On a dark screen, dirt, fingerprints, and smudges are also simpler to see.
With a dry towel, remove any dust. Remove any apparent dust and filth by gently wiping it away with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth. To get rid of smudges that are only on the surface, use little pressure if necessary.
Use a lightly damp cloth to remove any remaining marks. You can use a solution of equal parts water and vinegar or rubbing alcohol on screens that are coated with glass. You should only use water on LED or LCD screens. Apply the solution straight to the cloth using a spray bottle or a light dab, then gently wipe the screen from left to right.
Air-dry after buffing with a dry cloth. After the screen has dried, if any streaks are still visible, lightly buff them with a dry cloth. Allow the screen to thoroughly dry before starting your computer or laptop again.
Note: According to Apple, you can clean any Apple product with 70% isopropyl disinfectant wipes. Just be careful not to get any liquid into the ports or openings of the device; to prevent this, you might wish to squeeze out any extra liquid from the wipe before using it.
