How Much Oil Does A BMW 330Ci Take?

6.9 quarts of capacity with filter. Check the oil level after refueling.

What is the oil capacity of a BMW E46?

The common rule of thumb in the US is that the BMW E46 need 6.9 Quarts of oil from dry, regardless of the model you have.

About half a quart of oil usually remains in the engine when we perform our own oil changes.

You don’t want to overfill the oil in your engine, so take caution while topping off or replenishing your oil. If your engine has too much oil in it, oil will be expelled through your exhaust, which can harm your catalytic converters.

Instructions

Lift the car using a lift, a floor jack, jack stands, or ramps. You may find instructions for jacking up your car here. Make sure the automobile is adequately secured before getting under it because this can be a highly risky procedure. Never crawl underneath a car that is only being held up by a jack!

1. Raise the hood, then remove the oil filler cap from the engine’s top.

The oil drain plug should be removed using a 17mm socket. Make sure the oil drain pan is positioned such that the oil stream is caught when it initially gushes out. Make the car level and give it about 15 minutes to thoroughly drain out to allow it to drain completely.

3. Loosen the oil filter cap behind the hood using the 36mm socket.

4. Take off the cap, then take out the filter by picking it up with a plastic bag. By doing this action, you can avoid spilling oil all over the place.

5. Take out the old crush washer and attach the new one.

6. Attach the drain plug manually when the oil has stopped draining (if at all, it should only be trickling slightly). Plug bolt should be 18 ft-lbs tightened with microtorque wrench.

7. Carefully pry the old gasket from the oil filter cap using a little screwdriver.

8. Use fresh oil to lubricate the kit’s new gasket. Next, carefully lower it where the last one was fastened. It will travel within the groove as depicted in the image.

9. Replace the old filter there, pushing down until it is firmly in place (it won’t move around very easily).

10. Lay the cover down and begin manually tightening it. Finally, use a microtorque wrench to tighten it to 18 ft-lbs.

11. Add 6.5 quarts of oil to the engine with caution. Once you are completed, ensure sure there is oil visible on the dipstick by checking it. (If there isn’t any, check under the car to make sure it isn’t there.)

12. Start the car, put the oil filler cap on, and check for leaks. After around 1-2 seconds, the red oil light ought to turn off. If it doesn’t, turn off the automobile right away because this indicates a problem.

13. Lower the car to the ground (remove it from the lift, ramps, or jack stands), then check the level to make sure the dipstick is about halfway up.

14. Travel spiritedly for 6500 miles before your next oil change.

E46 330i requires what type of oil?

Hello everyone, I apologize in advance for what is most likely a really stupid question, but I need to top off the oil in my E46. Any clue what sort of oil I need to put in there? I’ve never had to do it (it’s a few thousand miles from its next service). Would it be artificial?

You must use entirely synthetic oil that has been approved by BMW LL01. Castrol Edge 0w30 or Mobil1 SuperSyn 0w40 are the two best.

However, if the engine has traveled a lot of miles and is consuming oil at an absurd pace, these are far too thin. With no harm to the engine, switching to a 10W40 or even 15W40 can save oil usage.

They are the ones that BMW advise, your local BMW dealer will use if you have your car serviced there, and I use in both a 60k-mile Z4 3.0i and a 160k-mile 530i with no problems at all.

Just completed 55k miles, and it has approximately 18k since the last servicing (still getting used to massive service intervals). If it’s okay to mix it, I guess I’ll go with the synthetic substance.

…I need to refuel my E46’s oil. Since it is many thousand miles from the next service, I’ve never had to do it.

I only hope that yours is one of the ones with a less voracious thirst for oil. Without wanting to be a doom-munger, some 330i models might run out of oil if they were 2,000 miles from the next service and hadn’t had a top-off since the previous one.

When topping off, I use the semi-syn 10w40 that my indie uses. At roughly PS20 for 5 litres, Mobil S from Halfrauds is a decent value. With a 15k service interval, I estimate that I go through just over one of those in between each service.

BMW recommends Mobie 1 (SuperSyn)fully synthentic 0w40, and after over 70k miles, my engine still looked and ran as good as new.

A 330i E90 uses how much oil?

Pour practically all of the oil bottles you bought into the engine using a cone filter. To avoid placing too much in the seventh container, I usually leave approximately a quarter of a bottle there, but don’t worry too much about this. If you put too little in, the dash should alert you, and any extra will soon be burnt up by the engine.

That’s all, then! As already noted, if you’ve completed it once, it should only take about 20 minutes and save you some money from the dealer. Any independent store selling Castrol or Mobil1 is most likely charging you less than $100. Some individuals also utilize this when replacing independently, but I don’t think the $15 in savings makes sense.
