How To Change BMW Chime?

I observed a new sound on more current BMW vehicles (I can’t remember which model year it debuted), but here is a video of the chime I’m referring about.

I was wondering if I could program this chime to replace the “old” chime that is currently present in my F32.

I hope I could code that new chime into mine because it sounds better than the older style chime on my 435.

I’m not sure how that soundfile can come on to even be an option to be coded on if the new LCI chime is a soundfile that your software does not currently have as an option and it is not a component of your firmware.

More precisely, is it possible to switch from the obnoxious, harsh chime that activates in a 2007 335 e90 when you input your key or don’t fasten your seatbelt to the more pleasant chime seen in models from 2008 and later?

I still intend to “click it, rather than ticket,” but I do appreciate the gentler chime of the ’08+ models.

There is a “Gong” volume on my e90 328xi’s stereo settings. Ironically, though, the sound volume doesn’t change when I preview it after setting it, whether I change it from -5 to +5.

Anybody had the dealer recode it? Does it have a price? It probably took a half-hour of labor. Although I’d prefer the softer “briiing, briiing” of the ’08+ (I’m still under warranty, but it’s not really a warranty issue), it’s not really worth $70 if they do.

I don’t know, can we have a different chime since it runs via the speakers…

I hoped to activate the missile warning lock on the vehicle.

It is a notification that there are open doors, maintenance needs, engine issues, etc.

I recently received my 2012 135i coupe, and I’ve already noticed how loud the turn signal and other interior whistles and alerts are. Is there a method to change the volume of these items? I searched RTFM but couldn’t find anything on this. Any advice would be greatly valued. I hope I can decline their offers.

You can probably alter it in iDrive (I’m unable to tell you where because I don’t have it) or in the “professional” head unit.

It is an option in the head unit of my non-iDrive car on the same page (scroll right, second page) as the bass, treble, balance, fader, etc.

That said, it’s still obnoxiously loud even on the lowest level. I’m thinking of using a bespoke coding hack from a nearby aftermarket shop to disable some of them.

You might try adjusting the volume when the chime is ringing even though I highly doubt it can be done by the user. The volume of Navi voice directions will be adjusted using this technique.

The gong level can be changed on my non-iDrive vehicle’s head unit. It’s difficult to offer advice because the OP hasn’t indicated whether he has iDrive.

For non-idrive devices, the “gong” volume setting is located on the bass/treble/fader second page; simply scroll over. What remains to be seen is if it actually adjusts. I’ve set mine to the same loudness both at the lowest and highest attainable volume levels. Perhaps I should take it to BMW, who can fix it. (I also own a 2011 135)

The volume controls for the “gong” are reportedly deactivated in US-spec cars, according to an item I recently read in the search. All day long, you can change the settings, but nothing happens.:-/ This appears to be true for the non-idrive cars, though I’m not sure if it applies to the idrive variants as well.

Do you know how to adjust or reset the tone that the car plays when a warning displays, such as low gasoline or a seat belt issue.

My car’s pleasant chime noise has been replaced by a highly obnoxious high-pitched beep since I installed an aftermarket CD player. Does anyone know how to restore it to its original state or what might have happened? It no longer emanates from the speakers but rather the back of the head unit.

I only wish the alarm tones were the standard bmw chime from the speakers, but everything else on the new head unit works, including the reverse camera, Bluetooth, CD player, touchscreen, and other sound through speakers.

So, after hours of searching, I haven’t found any mention of coding these out. To be honest, I don’t really want them turned off; instead, I want to ascertain why they have ceased functioning so that I might attempt to restore them.

My iDrive warning tone and screen have been coded out. The idea is that there is a lot that can be done with coding, even though that isn’t exactly the same thing. I’d post a question in the E90 code section. There, I’ve received a lot of assistance because some of the regular posters are really knowledgeable about programming and coding.

Thanks, but there are just three bmw-specific canbus options available on my version: two for the bmw mini and one for the bmw union. The factory settings make no reference of chimes, so I’m not sure what else it may be. the software version that I use (latest) Additionally unusual is the manufacturing code, 3368

Unfortunately not, the alert tones from the back of the head unit when doors open, etc. continue play even after being reset to zero, saved, and rebooted.

I have the NBT idrive system, so when I turn on the car, I don’t hear the typical BMW chime or gong, but everything else functions as it should—radio, bluetooth, navigation, etc.

Do you know what the problem is or is it a setting somewhere? Nothing was found in the iDrive settings.

When you turn on the car, I don’t recall hearing any BMW chimes or gongs (from iDrive) (other the engine).

When the car is started with a door open, an audio warning will sound; however, if the door is closed and the seat belt is fastened, no sound will be heard.

You can access the test for the gong and hear all of its sounds if you unlock your instrument cluster.

Since you purchased this model, have you ever heard the sound? Or is this a recent problem? If the vehicle is brand-new to you, might it be that the previous owner disabled some of the warnings?

Is the sound you’re referencing in the video below (play it)? If so, perform another action that might trigger a warning, such as opening a door while the engine is running or leaving the lights on while turning off the engine and opening a door (headlights cannot be in automatic mode for this test):

I appreciate you sharing this. Today morning I learned that the chime only occurs when the engine is started, not just when the ignition is turned on. I was probably just being stupid.
