Sport mode is comparable to my F-250’s Haul-Tow mode. Overextending into the torque curve, it only winds down after leaving a traffic light. When necessary, I find manual shifting to be smooth. When engaged, it shifts into a lower gear, and you can drop it one more gear for passing on the highway before disengaging.

Review: The Drive in the 2015 Infiniti QX60 Is Surprisingly Good (In Sport Mode)
A seven-passenger crossover SUV with rounded aesthetic cues and a plush interior is the 2015 Infiniti QX 60. With its current powertrain configuration, it provides a somewhat uninspiring driving experience. But when you switch to Sport Mode, this SUV morphs so drastically that it might be the most underappreciated Lexus RX rival on the market. I’m serious. It is that excellent.
The Lexus RX 350 has long reigned supreme in the mid-size, luxury SUV market thanks to its plush interior and engaging driving dynamics. The RX, which sells about 100,000 units a year, outsells the QX60, which sells about 5,000. The QX60 may, however, perform admirably even when in the aforementioned sport mode.
What exactly is sport mode? These days, a lot of cars have various driving modes that, depending on their settings, are intended to provide various driving experiences. While a lot of these options (like regular and eco) can be boring, when you switch to Sport mode, the QX60 really transforms. It nearly seems as though you blasted the engine with expresso.
This adjustment is made by turning a dial, which also makes the engine more responsive and changes the transmission shifting points. To put it another way, the ordinarily sleepy powertrain gets roused.
Reviews typically don’t go into great detail about driving modes. Usually, when we test each mode, the changes are quite subtle. With the QX60, though, I never switched it back to normal since I thought the shift was so jarring.
Fuel economy will suffer if you continue to drive in Sport Mode. EPA We can fairly anticipate that the QX60’s fuel economy of 19/26/22 will not be recovered in Sport Mode because the estimated fuel economy is based on normal driving mode. But do a few extra miles per gallon really matter when driving is this much more enjoyable?
Other than the driving experience, the car’s interior is surprisingly well-designed. Even though I don’t like the somewhat rounded outward appearance, it does grow on you, and I discovered that I enjoyed this car more from the back than I usually do with other cars.
I was quite impressed with the interior’s materials and instrument panel design. In fact, I thought this was superior to the Lexus RX 350, and as soon as I got behind the wheel, my opinions about this car swiftly changed. Simply put, it is far better than at first glance.
Additionally, the Lexus lacks a third row of seats while the Infiniti does. For children, this third row has adequate space.
One more thing: The buttons on the steering wheel on Infiniti and other Nissan products are hard to press. These buttons have been enhanced by numerous other manufacturers, especially high-end ones, to make them more pleasant to the touch and simpler to operate. This approach needs to be used by Infiniti.
Ultimately, the QX60 dominates the mid-size, premium SUV market near the bottom, which is terrible. If you set the dial to Sport Mode, it can actually be fairly excellent.

Normal is, well, normal. The steering feels slightly heavier and the gears hold for a little bit longer in sport mode. Personal gives you control over active trace control and enables you to combine those two items whatever you like.

So what does Sport Mode do?
By pressing the Sport button, the engine’s computer is simply instructed to inject more gas into the engine earlier in the pedal’s journey. For instance, the throttle map in your automobile may indicate that the throttle should open to 30% when the gas pedal is pushed down 20%; but, in Sport, the throttle map may be changed to indicate that the throttle opens to 50% when the gas pedal is pushed down 20%. The same amount of gas is pushed, but the engine produces more power as a result.
Of course, some vehicles, particularly those that focus on performance, have Sport buttons that do more. When Sport mode is on, active suspension cars with adjustable damper stiffness frequently stiffen them, reducing body roll and bouncing. Some cars will alter the power steering system’s assistance level to the point where every turn has a bigger impact, making the steering wheel seem heavier and the car feel more substantial. Other cars may even alter the steering ratio. Some vehicles, such as the BMW M8, with brake-by-wire systems, can even alter the mapping of the brake pedal so that the brakes bite more forcefully sooner in the pedal’s journey.
Still, the small Sport button only modifies how the gas pedal operates for the majority of us. It doesn’t cause the engine any harm and doesn’t require more power from it. In normal driving, it merely gives the car a little sportier feeling.

In addition to Sport, the QX60 includes three other drive modes: Standard, Eco, and Snow. I spent most of my time driving in Standard mode, but as my time with the car coincided with a 17-day period during which snow fell every day, I learned to value Snow mode. When Snow mode is activated, the engine output is adjusted, and the clever AWD system distributes power equally between the front and rear axles to lessen wheel spin. You’ll know how Snow mode feels if you’ve ever gotten stuck in the snow and had to shift into second gear to try to free yourself. The ideal way to prepare for a cold and snowy winter is to equip your car with a set of snow tires, but the QX60’s Snow mode made enduring unpleasant winter driving conditions much more bearable—a it’s terrific winter vehicle.
ProPilot Assist is not offered by Infiniti in the QX60. A capable lane-keep assist system, adaptive cruise control, and the standard blind-spot warning are in its place (mounted on the A pillar instead of integrated into the side-view mirrors). It functions adequately, but ProPilot, which is offered in the QX50, is preferable.
The QX60 has a 22 mpg rating (27mpg highway and 20mpg city). In a week of driving in the cold, even before the vortex, I averaged 20.4 mpg.
I had mixed thoughts after a week of driving the QX60. I never felt at ease using the poor infotainment system and the overwhelming number of buttons on the dashboard, and it’s sad that a 2019 luxury vehicle doesn’t offer CarPlay and Android Auto. However, I largely enjoyed everything else about the QX60. Behind the wheel, I was at ease and unconcerned about the traffic and snow outside. Also, Infiniti nailed the opulent details. If you’re looking for a three-row, mid-size luxury SUV, the QX60 is a tempting alternative because it costs about $10,000 less than a Q7 with comparable specifications.
What does “Sport Mode” mean?
In contrast to Eco Mode, Sport Mode is a little more aggressive and alters the attitude and drivability of your car to a different degree. One of the most used drive modes, the Sport Mode, increases acceleration by making your car’s throttle more sensitive for razor-sharp response. To deliver the greatest torque without speed restrictions, this mode is preferable.
