I recently took a 2018 Q50 3.0t Luxe for a test drive and am considering buying one. I presently travel in an unmodified 2009 Maxima.
My Maxima has roughly 290 HP, 261 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds, according to the Internet.
The thing is, they let me floor it a few times during the test drive, and it seemed SO MUCH FASTER. I was genuinely shocked by that. My automotive history is rather unremarkable; my first vehicle was a 2003 Maxima, followed by an Altima, and then my current Maxima. My assumption that my Max was quick was completely false.
Can somebody explain why this is? After all, on paper, a difference of 0.3 seconds in the 0-60 time and 10 more horsepower do not appear to be very significant. The torque increases significantly. Is this the cause? Of course, my car is about 9 years old, so I can only assume that the wear and tear on it has decreased performance. Perhaps a part of it is the phantom excitement of driving a brand-new vehicle.
I just wanted to know how come this one feels so much faster than my last car with such a “small” difference on paper. I’m extremely excited about getting the new Q50 shortly, and I was just hoping that someone with more knowledge with cars could explain it to me.
What is the Infiniti Q50’s top speed?
The INFINITIQ50’s peak speed ranges from 150 to 160 mph. One of the key components of the car is the transmission. You will eventually run into issues. You might feel trembling. There may be difficult shifts, which is not ideal. The jerking might occur. The gears could get trapped. Possible transmission slippage If there is a transmission fluid leak, it must be fixed right away. Shifts that are delayed can have problems accelerating. Every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, the transmission fluid must be changed. There will be fluid changes and awful noises coming from the transmission. The sound of used transmission fluid will be horrible. It will hurt to use a torque converter that is worn out.
I hit 178 in my stock vehicle after getting an oil change, new tires, and new brakes; I was going to make 180, but I eased off.
Incorrect. Each model is different, and none have 399 horsepower. You have the 400 horsepower Red Sport? Maybe you’re misinformed; I reached 155 mph with my 2017 Q50S, so that must be the top speed (silver sport)
Dalen… You’re mistaken. A q50’s peak speed is 155 mph. The speed limiter is the same for all Q50 vehicles, even if the sport variants could have greater horsepower.
My stock Red Sport easily reaches 155 mph and would undoubtedly go even faster if factory settings, or what we used to refer to as the “governer,” would permit it. That can be tuned out, I’m informed, and the automobile will go considerably more quickly. I do think that the car is only intended to go 155 mph, and going any faster could cause issues with other drive train parts. It still takes off when you punch it at 100…fun!
Performance – Engine, Transmission, and Other
A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and either rear- or all-wheel drive are standard on all Q50 models. The Q50’s engine, however, is available in two power levels. The Red Sport 400 is adjusted to produce 400 horses, while the basic mill only produces 300. Regardless of engine output, shifts are hardly noticeable, especially when the driver uses the paddle shifters that are located on the steering wheel to initiate a gear change. The Q50s we’ve tested with 19-inch wheels had a twitchy, occasionally unpleasant ride, but the standard 18-inch wheels on the base model might make things better. Although light, the steering is slow and lacks input. The Direct Adaptive Steering drive-by-wire steering system from Infiniti is a much-lauded option, but none of its numerous selectable settings provides the input or the progressive effort during corners that the best helms do.
