There isn’t a BMW M2 Convertible. not formally, at least. A German tuner by the name of Lightweight Performance has transformed a standard 2 Series Convertible into a full-on, open-topped M2, so this is also not a delusion. It might not be as, lightweight, as we fear.
According to Lightweight, “visual conversions from a 2 Series Convertible to an M2 already exist.” So that would present us with no difficulties at all.
Instead, their task was to fit the M2 Coupe’s beautiful list of technical features into a body that they weren’t actually intended for. Naturally. For reasons we really don’t understand, this lightweight car has been given the moniker “Hillary.” It has front and rear M2 axles, an M2 diff, modified rear track rods, Bilstein clubsport suspension, and even the transmission, DSC, and diff software from the extreme M4 GTS.
It also includes the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox from the M2. A tweaked version of the M2’s magnificent straight-six turbo engine, which BMW actually stole from the M4, is added as the showpiece, producing 422 horsepower and 443 lb ft of torque. It now has a titanium exhaust system with carbon end pipes. The 186 mph top speed that Lightweight estimates is actually more than adequate. particularly if the roof is leaking.
