How well is the BMW R18 selling?
BMW Motorrad has its best sales performance ever in 2021 thanks to a 14.8% increase.
Munich.
Despite significant obstacles, A BMW Motorrad ended the year with a record sales performance. 2021 was the strongest year since BMW Motorrad was created, with 194,261 units (+14.8%). (previous year: 169,272).
BMWA Motorrad’s head, Markus Schramm: “I’m not only thrilled but also tremendously proud that we still able to conclude 2021 with this excellent performance for BMW Motorrad. When a team is faced with adversity, you can really tell how effectively they work together. This year, I would like to specifically thank all of the staff members and the BMW Motorrad business partners who, through their dedication and adaptability, made this accomplishment possible. My sincere gratitude also goes out to our customers for their support, loyalty, and trust.”
In 2021, Europe saw rapid sales growth. The countries that were able to consistently improve their sales were France (19,887 units; +13.4%), Spain (12,616 units; +14.4%), and Italy (16,034 units; +15.2%). In comparison to the prior year, a total of 9,100 more automobiles were delivered in Europe, including Germany. Additionally, the Asian market is still growing. China (14,309 units / +21.4%) is one of the Asian countries with the strongest volume and growth rates. India posted a top-notch performance with a growth of 102.5% and an astounding 5,191 units, demonstrating the country’s continued rapid development.
Germany continues to be by far BMW Motorrad’s largest single market. BMW Motorrad will continue to hold the title of the most prosperous motorcycle company in the German market in 2021 with 25,972 units sold.
For BMW Motorrad, the market in the USA also expanded significantly in 2021. With 16,030 motorcycle and scooter sales (up from 12,135 units the year before), BMW Motorrad impressively experienced a +32.1% gain in the USA. Though not quite as quickly, sales in Brazil are nevertheless rising steadily. The South American market is one of the top 7 BMW Motorrad markets in 2021 with 11,150 vehicles sold (up from 10.707 units the year before and a rise of +4.1%).
Fortunately, the fun of riding on two wheels was unaffected by the UK’s exit from the EU. The sales of 9,263 units in Great Britain and Ireland, up 26.6% over the previous year’s 7,315 units, show that the British market is more robust than ever.
The two touring enduros R 1250 GS and GS Adventure alone saw more over 60,000 units shipped to customers in 2021. The traditionally robust R Series saw a large overall increase in sales. The four sentimental BMW cruisers from the R18 model family and the brand-new top-of-the-line R 1250 RT tourer helped the flat-twin boxer segment, which made up about half of the 194,261 vehicles sold, see strong growth in sales.
How much does a BMW 1800 cost?
On the US market, the base model is priced at $17,500, and if extra extras are added, the price rises to $19,870. For the European market, BMW will offer a First Edition model for EUR22,800 on the German motorcycle market. Of course, adding optional items will increase the price of the BMW R18. The large boxer cruiser will be on sale this summer in the United States and will start to appear at showrooms in the fall.
The air-cooled 1,800cc boxer engine used in the BMW R18 is the brand’s largest boxer engine to date. It generates 110 lbs-ft (150 Nm) of torque between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm and 91 kW (67 kW) of power. The engine layout retains the conventional pushrods found on R5 models from more than 70 years ago and has two camshafts. Other characteristics include a single-disc dry clutch that prevents the back wheel from locking during severe downshifts and is designed as a self-reinforcing anti-hopping clutch. Ride-by-wire throttle technology aids in the bike’s smooth acceleration. The nickel-plated exposed shaft, which makes us think of the motorcycle BMW produced until 1955, is another traditional element. Additionally, the engine’s mapping was upgraded, and it now features the Rain mode in addition to the two new riding modes of Roll and Rock.
The BMW R18 includes various accessories such specially designed Roland Sands Collection seats, different pegs and footboards, bags, Vance & Hines exhausts, and varied wheel sizes. Additionally, BMW provides two collections: the two-tone black and the machined, which turn the motorcycle from a traditional and straightforward bike into a mean-looking bobber.
What is the BMW R18’s CC?
BMW has never produced a boxer engine with a higher displacement than the 1,802 cc two-cylinder boxer found in the R 18. At 3,000 rpm, it produces a maximum torque of 116 lbs-ft.

The BMW R18 is it cooled by water?
The attack by Germany on the American market for touring motorcycles has intensified considerably.
The release of BMW’s R18 cruiser last year signaled both a return to form for the company and a shift in the cruiser market. The R18 proudly displayed its two enormous air-cooled cylinders and straightforward interface in contrast to other K cruiser models that had liquid-cooled inline-six cylinder engines and a ton of technology. BMW now hopes to increase the R18’s market share and, perhaps, draw in a few more conventional American cruiser and bagger purchasers in the process.
As you might anticipate, the BMW R18 B and R18 Transcontinental are based on the original R18, which we previously evaluated and, to be completely honest, didn’t particularly adore. The R18 B and Transcontinental both have large front fairings, hard saddlebags, and an additional top case, which sets them apart from that model. Despite having mid-mounted foot controls, this is a very German interpretation on a quite American formula.
The most noticeable differences from the standard R18 are the baggage and fairings, but they don’t fully convey everything. The Transcontinental comes with a remarkable four analog gauges and a Marshall co-branded audio system controlled by a 10.25-inch TFT display, compared to the ordinary R18’s single gauge. Additionally, we enjoy that the seat is heated. The R18 B sports a lower windshield and a thinner seat due to its more basic design.
The optional Active (read: BMW-speak for adaptive) cruise control is the second significant departure from the base R18. It uses radar to maintain a predetermined following distance from the vehicle in front of you, similar to the system we’ve tried and loved in the Ducati Multistrada V4. On this kind of motorcycle, which is one meant for lengthy cross-country freeway rides, that’s going to be a huge plus and a real feather in BMW’s cap over Harley or Indian.
BMW anticipates having the BMW R18 B and Transcontinental in dealers sometime in August. Their suggested retail prices are $21,495 and $24,995, respectively.

The first adventure motorcycle was the 1980 BMW R80 GS, and BMW Motorrad is still renowned for its top-notch off-road vehicles. The bike to beat is still the BMW GS range of adventure bikes.
You can pick from a variety of adventure bikes. Due to its low price and enjoyable single-cylinder design, the G 310 GS is a perfect BMW motorbike for new riders. The F 850 GS Adventure boasts a smoother clutch and a 90-hp parallel twin cylinder engine that makes challenging rides more pleasant. The F 750 GS offers ABS and stability control for a smooth ride. The S 1000 XR has the sport bike dynamics you demand along with a 165-hp inline four-cylinder engine. In comparison to the BMW GS 1250, which is designed for off-road riding, it offers a more road-based approach to touring.
As the company that invented adventure bikes, BMW makes top-notch, competitive enduro motorbikes. The R 1250 GS Adventure is a renowned BMW adventure bike with a 4 stroke, air cooled, 1254cc flat twin engine that can handle challenging off-road terrain. Apart from the dealer extras, BMW changes very little about the enormously popular BMW R 1250 GS Adventure.
The reason the regular GS 1250 is so well-liked is that it has everything an enduro or touring bike should have: excellent handling, easy riding, lots of technology, moderate power, and the opportunity to customize it.
You get additional gasoline capacity, more suspension travel, and factory crash safety for the BMW GS 1250 price difference between the normal GS and the Adventure. The most well-known BMW off-road motorbike, the 1250 GS Adventure, is equipped to handle even the most challenging off-road journeys.
Unsurprisingly, an adventure bike is the most popular BMW motorbike. With 60,000 units sold globally in 2021, the R 1250 GS and the 1250 GS Adventure are the two BMW motorcycles with the highest sales. That represents a sizable portion of BMW’s 194,000 annual unit sales.
The largest BMW motorcycle—what is it?
We were awestruck by the BMW “Big Boxer” engine right before Christmas. It is BMW’s most potent two-cylinder boxer and the largest flat-twin ever at a staggering 1802cc. Now that we know, it is for the R18.
The Big Boxer has been installed on a cruiser’s frame as is to be expected given that it is a big (110kg), low-revving, torquey type of engine. And doesn’t it look just gorgeous in there?
It adopts the same basic shape as the R18 concept but adds somewhat more bodywork than the exhibition bike, which appeared to be entirely made up of the engine with only a few components protruding from it. However, the manufacturing model continues to be constructed around a double-loop steel frame, just like the concept and vintage BMW cruiser bikes.
The big ol’ twin produces 90 horsepower at 4750 rpm and 116 lb ft of maximum torque between 2000 and 4000 rpm. The R18 draws stylistic cues from the 1936 R5, which has an exposed driveshaft that turns the back wheel.
Although it has a classic aesthetic, it is actually loaded with contemporary technology. Traction control, cornering ABS, and cruise control are all included in its three riding modes, Rain, Roll, and Rock (yes, really). The options menu includes a reverse assist and hill start control. You might want to specify those because the R18 weights 345kg.
You want to change the styling. Several official BMW Motorrad accessories will be offered as a result of a collaboration with Roland Sands Design. Machined and 2-Tone Black will be the two main flavors of parts that are offered. Mustang Seat will offer various seat configurations, and Vance & Hines will provide the bike with a variety of exhaust systems.
Appreciate what you see? The R18 First Edition will cost PS18,995, and features white pinstripes, First Edition badging, and a ton of chrome.
