Is Porsche Macan S Worth The Money?

In comparison to significant competitors like the Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace, and Mercedes GLC, all models of the Macan are fairly expensive to purchase. Additionally, Porsche doesn’t frequently offer discounts. Resale prices are among the highest in their class, though, which keeps PCP finance deals shockingly affordable. The Macan entry-level model and the Macan T are probably going to retain their worth the best.

Because there are no diesel engines in the lineup, you won’t get very good fuel efficiency from any of the engines, and servicing and insurance prices are a bit more than those of many other sports SUVs. Even the base 2.0-litre engine only guarantees about 28 mpg, and under heavy load, that figure will fall to the low 20s. According to our observations, the V6-powered S and GTS are not significantly more thirsty on a motorway run, but you may anticipate closer to 25 mpg with some city driving mixed in.

What Car? declares

The Porsche Macan is made to appeal to experienced drivers, unlike other SUVs. In actuality, it’s designed for customers who have outgrown a Cayman but don’t want to part with the Porsche name or the fun of driving a Porsche. Consider it the best of all worlds: an automobile that is entertaining and useful at the same time.

Porsche has sold a ton of the Porsche Macan since it first appeared roughly ten years ago. The Porsche Cayenne, the other SUV from the Stuttgart marque, is smaller and more expensive than this one.

So what’s the final word? The Macan S is without a doubt one of the best SUVs you can buy, but I don’t think the extras are worth it because they don’t improve it enough.

The Porsche portfolio, in my opinion, is dominated by some of the world’s best automobiles, with the Macan serving as the exception that demonstrates the rule. However, despite their attractions and talents, some of its cars don’t always work.

I should say that they don’t make sense to me. Porsche has many satisfied Panamera Turbo customers, as well as, obviously, many more satisfied Macan owners. Small distinctions are the problem in this situation. I don’t like the overbuilt Porsches, and despite its excellent stats, the Macan seems to have a split personality: it’s wild at the top of the lineup, competent at the bottom, and mushy in the center.

Look, the Macan S performs its function. The vehicle has excellent handling, a first-rate cabin, and a wonderful media center with excellent GPS navigation in the infotainment system with its central touchscreen. It goes without saying that there aren’t many cars on the road that can transport a week’s worth of groceries and comfortably transport an entire family to Disneyland while still maintaining Porsche’s performance poise.

However, you are not required to come up with $80,000. The extras are great and enhance the experience, but they are not necessary for the task. My recommendation is to go with the less expensive Macan and enjoy how Porsche-like it still is.

Macan Porsche: second report

The other Saturday morning, even though our Porsche Macan S Diesel was parked in the street outside of my house and acting normally, I had a strange feeling that something wasn’t quite right. And sure enough, when I turned to face the street, there were two people taking the most suspicious-looking pictures of it.

They weren’t doing it in a “let’s snap our favorite car” kind of way; rather, they were methodically shooting shots of it from every angle with their phones. Instead, with a bizarre, frenetic type of intent, they were running around it. Then they both jogged a short distance up the road before getting into a black Vauxhall and driving off.

Both miscreants were dressed in the expected crew cut, jeans, and white trainers. I then realized that they had just taken a ton of photos of our Macan to decide whether or not they intended to return later that night and steal it.

I figured that someone higher up would probably see the pictures and determine whether to steal the car to order after finding a buyer in a far-off country.

The Porsche has a tracking device, an immobilizer, and a Thatcham category 1 alarm. Even so, they don’t provide the piece of mind they ought to because nowadays, burglars are more likely to enter your home to steal your keys than to hotwire your vehicle.

I then reasoned that our street may contain CCTV cameras, so I set out to find out from the local police, who just so happened to have a station at the end of my road. The officer we spoke to admitted that there was no CCTV, but they thanked me for alerting them to the occurrence because there have recently been a number of high-end SUV thefts in the neighborhood.

They advised me to store the Porsche in a locked garage (which I don’t have), to avoid leaving it in the same spot overnight, and to always keep a sharp eye out for the alarm. They simply wished me luck after that.

Since then, I’ve kept the Macan in my possession and parked it in a variety of different locations inside our resident permission area. Although this is nice, it certainly reveals more about my inherent paranoia than I should in a report like this.

I’m absolutely smitten with the Porsche in every other aspect. Although 33.4 mpg economy isn’t particularly impressive, considering the car’s size and potential for performance, it’s actually not that bad. Obviously, you would want to take it because it drives so wonderfully and looks so well. Additionally, compared to any automobile I’ve ever driven from our fleet, it is more useful in day-to-day use.

So, despite the unwelcome attention, I believe it to be the ideal vehicle – as long as it isn’t headed to Albania.

Porsche Macan: Select the Base Model

The interior of the Macan is mostly unchanged from previously, and the cargo area is one of the smallest in its class. Porsche claims that the space behind the back seats is only 17.6 cubic feet, as opposed to 25.8 cubic feet in the Audi Q5 and approximately 29 cubic feet in the BMW X3 and Genesis GV70. The Macan offers 52.9 cubic feet of room when the seatbacks are folded flat, which isn’t terrible.

Fortunately, the Macan’s performance makes up for any issues with the interior. The I4 turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is compact but powerful. It produces 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, up 13 horsepower and 22 pound-feet from the 2021 Macan 2.0T, respectively. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with all-wheel drive is standard, and Porsche claims that the Macan will sprint to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds when the launch control feature is used. The Sport Chrono package is an add-on. For a base model, not terrible.

One of the many options you can add to the standard Macan is Sport Chrono, and I believe it’s a great extra. The Individual drive mode, which costs an additional $1,220, allows you to customize the powertrain and chassis parameters. It also includes the Sport Response button, which puts the Macan into full-boil mode for 20 seconds, making it ideal for passing slower drivers on the highway.

The Macan is nevertheless enjoyable even in Porsche’s pre-set modes. Although perhaps a bit too light for my tastes, the steering is light and direct, and I adore how, when in Sport Plus mode, the transmission hangs around near to redline and downshifts when braking. The Macan is quite agile even with the 2.0-liter engine.

This SUV is fantastic for getting about town on foot as well. Power is delivered by the turbo engine smoothly, and the transmission never makes jarring shifts. No pothole can interrupt my calm and collected experience thanks to the suspension’s well-tuned performance. But everything isn’t ideal. Prepare to take out your wallet if driver-assistance features are on your list of must-haves. A surround-view camera costs $1,200, lane-change assist is $700, and lane-keeping assist is $800.

The worst flaw with the Macan, though, might be its fuel efficiency. The EPA rates this small SUV at 19 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the interstate, and 21 mpg overall. I’ve been getting 22.8 mpg throughout a week of testing, but when I compare it to the competition, the Macan seems like a gas guzzler. The BMW X3, Genesis GV70, Mercedes-Benz GLC300, Volvo XC60, and Audi Q5 all have four-cylinder models that achieve highway fuel economy ratings of 28 mpg and 29 mpg, respectively. Additionally, the Macan is at least $10,000 more expensive than each of those rivals. Ouch.

Although it might not be a good value, no small SUV handles like the Macan when the road becomes winding. The four-cylinder Macan is a true Porsche at heart; it is sharp and sporty but also practical.

The Porsche Macan S is dependable.

In the 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey, Porsche as a brand did not perform especially well, placing 25th overall (out of 30 manufacturers). But Macan owners claimed their vehicles were remarkably trustworthy, making it one of the most reliable SUVs in the poll.

The Porsche Macan is it silent?

The Porsche Macan leans very little when you’re driving through curves because to its firm, sporty suspension, which also performs a superb job of absorbing road imperfections. Even more comfortable than the standard setup is the optional air suspension system.
