We chose this site because it had one 350 kW charger that worked (the software said the second 350 kW charger was “unavailable” rather than “in use”), so we just moved the Ioniq 5 over and connected. This time, the charger’s display indicated that it would take 26 minutes to charge 80% of the device, indicating the same rate.
Indeed, the 350-kW charger was supplying the car with 74 kW, but it started to rise. 10 minutes later, it had reached 115 kW and 36%. The rate jumped to 156 kW, the quickest we had ever witnessed from an EV, when the battery capacity reached 47%.
We called an end to the session at the 18-minute mark. Why? We want to know how closely our reality resembles Hyundai’s “up-to” claims. According to Hyundai’s documentation, rapid charging of more than 250 kW should charge the battery from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes. Only from 18% to 56% was the Ioniq 5 moved during our 18 minutes. Instead of the recommended 70%, we put 38%, which is only little less than half.
