The BMW S1000RR is a race-oriented sport bike that was first developed by BMW Motorrad to participate in the 2009 Superbike World Championship and is currently being produced commercially. Its 999 cc (61.0 cu in) four-cylinder engine, which reaches its redline at 14,200 rpm, was unveiled in Munich in April 2008.
BMW produced 1,000 S1000RRs in 2009 to meet World Superbike homologation criteria, but increased output in 2010 to prepare the bike for retail sales. From the moment it was released until the Japanese finally got their act together and released motorbikes that could compete with the ballistic S1000RR on the Dyno and in a straight line, the S1000RR pretty much dominated the other 1000 cc bikes in terms of engine performance.
Since its release, the S1000RR has undergone numerous modifications, including those to the engine, chassis, electronics, and styling commencing in 2012, 2015, and 2017. These updates ensured that the S1000RR remained in front of its rivals.
The HP4 homologation special, a motorbike that was a more track-focused S1000RR intended for WSBK racing, was also introduced in 2012. The HP4 received a few small modifications in 2013 as well.
After releasing their 2011 ZX-10R with 197 crank horsepower, Kawasaki was the first to counter the S1000RR.
For a while, the Japanese were a little quiet, but in 2015, Yamaha joined the fray with their 200 crank horsepower YZF-R1 motorcycle, which is arguably an unauthorized road-going adaptation of their MotoGP M1 motorcycle.
Since then, numerous new or updated motorcycles from Europe and Japan, including multiple ZX-10Rs, have entered the market.
