After spending a week behind the wheel of Nissan’s updated Altima, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Altima achieves a fair compromise between those two extremes. Roadshow has spent some time in the recent weeks with midsizers that are both sporty and soft.

Both the softness and harshness are just right. It’s not completely dull, nor is it overly raunchy. I won’t go through the entire Goldilocks comparison. You understand where this is going, I’m sure.

One heck of a refresh

As part of a midcycle facelift for the 2016 model year, Nissan gave its venerable middle grounder everything but the kitchen sink. The most of the action occurs in front of the A-pillars, where the Altima’s appearance is similar to the new Maxima, despite the fact that the rear end has been somewhat sharpened.

Personally, I believe that the fusion of fashion under Maxima is a very positive development.
