BMW claims that the X6 M can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds and has a top speed of 156 mph. The conventional six-cylinder engine is smooth and produces enough power, according to the critics, who also claim that the V8 engine provides amazing acceleration and is quiet when traveling down the highway.

Watch the Crazy BMW X6 M Competition Reach 186 MPH on the Autobahn with 625 HP.
What even is the use of an M-badged SUV? has soon transformed into us not even blinking when one can hit 186 mph.
If you can believe it, there was a moment when the entire X5 M scenario was in fact up for question. People had only recently begun to accept the idea of SUVs without an off-road capability, but offering them sports car-like performance was a very different matter.
We’re well past that stage now, with vehicles like the Lamborghini Urus now available and the Ferrari Purosangue soon to follow. The BMW X6 M Competition, however, raises another question: Is it… typical for a BMW SUV (SAV, CAV, whatever) to attain 186 mph with such ease?
It would seem that the answer is “yes.” The 155 mph (250 kph) top speed of the basic X6 M is well-known by this point because it is the restriction that most German automakers electronically impose on their vehicles as part of a gentleman’s agreement. Only a few unique models, including the X6 M Competition, are immune from this limitation.
The BMW X6 M Competition’s frontal surface has more gaps than actual plastic or metal, a feat that’s always a reliable sign that something significant is hiding behind that grille and behind that hood. That would be a twin turbocharged V8 engine with 625 horsepower, which is just 25 horsepower less than the Lamborghini Urus can muster.
The video below takes us to 186 mph while letting us hear the X6 M Competition’s engine and exhaust. Despite having a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) speed of 3.8 seconds (3.74 seconds in this case), the sluggish BMW SUV needs roughly 46 seconds to reach 186 mph. Even then, the desired speed is only attained based on the speedometer of the vehicle, since the GPS app indicated a top speed of 178 mph (287 km/h). But as you can see from a quick glance at the BMW X6 M Competition, either of those two top speeds is rather astounding.
BMW X6 M Acceleration Test @ 0-174 MPH (280 km/h) Demonstrates the Power of the Behemoth
The BMW X6 had a lot of different reactions when it was originally introduced. It entered the market at a period when SUVs were still in contention (while simultaneously selling like hotcakes), and it immediately started to create an entirely new market category.
When the SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle; BMW doesn’t make “utility”) Coupe was introduced, opinion on it was utterly divided. There were individuals who adored it, and the majority who believed it to be an abomination that needed to be destroyed with fire. They didn’t, and in the interim the X6 gave birth to a smaller progeny as well as comparable models from the rivals.
BMW released a M version as if its plain existence wasn’t enough, which was only made more understandable by the fact that there was one automobile that made even less sense: the X5 M. The go-fast X6’s remarkable performances, however, immediately dispelled any remaining doubts. It has a 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 575 horsepower and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of maximum torque. With the four-wheel drive system and an exceptional eight-speed automatic transmission, you can reach 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (with the option to increase it to 280 km/h or 174 mph).
Somebody wanted to see how the beast would do in a sprint from zero to its top speed because they weren’t happy with the manufacturer’s stated stats. He starts to do it (on an unrestricted portion of the German autobahn) using the Launch Control feature, but not before giving us a little visual introduction to the BMW X6 M.
When you look at it, you can see both sides of the debate: the X6 does have an unfathomable allure that is probably referred to as “raw strength,” but it can also be seen as “a little too much.” Furthermore, when compared to the similar X5, it is completely useless. However, by some miracle, it spread, gained popularity, and is now accepted as a common occurrence on the streets.
As the video nears its conclusion, you start to consider: “Am I being cheated? There is no chance that this sluggish beast would be able to reach 280 km/h before the video ends.” There is no gimmick; the BMW X6 M fulfills its promises.
Performance – Engine, Transmission, and Other
The 3.0-liter inline-six engine in the X6 40i generates 335 horsepower and has a 48-volt hybrid system. It is mated to an eight-speed automated transmission and all-wheel drive. The M50i features the same all-wheel drive and transmission, but it also sports a substantially more potent twin-turbo 4.4 liter V-8. At our test track, its 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque allowed it to reach 60 mph in in 3.8 seconds. Even more astonishing is the fact that the X6 M is faster and boasts up to 617 horsepower. The regular six-cylinder engine is still very rapid and smooth. Additionally, standard adaptive dampers and wheels that range in size from 20 to 22 inches are features shared by the X6 40i and M50i. The X6’s outstanding cornering grip and stopping power were shown throughout our test. Although it has a stronger suspension than the one in the six-cylinder X6 we tested, it never seemed harsh. We particularly valued its adjustable steering weight and quiet cabin at highway speeds.
Are BMW X6 vehicles quick?
It facilitates a 4.1-second zero-to-60 mph performance that is quicker. The twin-turbo V8 in the BMW X6 M is identical to that in the M50i, but it produces a staggering 600 horsepower. Alongside the BMW X5, whose basis it shares, it is constructed in Greer, South Carolina at the BMW North American facility. The X6 was regarded as BMW’s premier SUV before the X7 was introduced.
While the second-generation X6 (F16) was introduced at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the first generation (E71) went on sale in April 2008 for the 2008 model year. In July 2019, the third-generation X6 was unveiled.

Keep in mind that not just compact or subcompact vehicles in the same class as the BMW X6 are included in this comparison; all vehicles are.
You may notice that these numbers differ significantly from those in J.D. Power or Consumer Reports. Most publications look at complaints made to the dealership within the first few months of ownership (like JD Power) or solicit biased feedback from owners regarding longer-term cycles of their new cars. Instead, this study examines data from wholesale auctions and repair businesses on actual repair prices and frequency.
The BMW X6 is a 4×4.
Standard range engines are all 3.0 liters, whereas 4.4-liter V8 petrol engines are offered in M versions. The X6 is as quick as a hot hatch even in the base xDrive30d diesel model. The M50i with 523bhp represents a significant improvement in both performance and pricing, however it costs about PS20,000 more than a base model car. The eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system are standard across the lineup, and the M50i can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds. In the past, there was also a powerful M50d diesel variant with 395 bhp, capable of 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds, and an entry-level xDrive30i petrol vehicle.
The xDrive40i, which sits above the 30d in the X6 model line, is a capable performer with respectable comfort on UK roads thanks to its 3.0-liter straight-six petrol engine and eight-speed automated gearbox.
The M50i, which sits at the top of the ordinary X6 line-up, has an innovative air suspension and its impressive acceleration for a large SUV serves as its key selling point. The BMW is a pleasant cruiser that successfully softens most bumps, but it never quite threatens the class-leading Porsche Cayenne Coupe in handling.
The X6 M Competition, BMW’s stand-alone flagship vehicle, is an outstanding illustration of how the company’s “M Division” can increase an SUV’s speed to the level of a supercar. It can equal the Audi RS Q8’s speed, reaching 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle that weighs more than two tonnes.
What is the top speed of the BMW i8?
The i8 has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 4.4 seconds. As a result, its straight-line performance is comparable to that of a genuine BMW M vehicle.
The i8’s engine, which BMW expertly designed, is responsible for the power. Unbelievably, the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder MINI Cooper served as the engine’s source. However, it has been altered to provide more naughtiness, producing 231 horsepower while receiving an additional 143 horsepower from an electric motor. The i8 is by no means slow thanks to the innovative hybrid configuration.
As a result, the i8 not only has a sharp appearance but also has the ability to move quickly when necessary, and since it is a BMW, the driving experience is also rather good.
