The third year of this generation’s Infiniti QX56 is huge, wide, and rounded. It travels with the seven-seat luxury SUVs with large towing capacity, such the Range Rover, Lexus LX 570, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, Audi Q7, and Lincoln Navigator.
Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a five-mode system are options for the Infiniti QX. The QX56’s 5.6-liter, 32-valve, double overhead-cam V8 engine produces 400 horsepower and a substantial 413 foot-pounds of torque. It also features direct fuel injection and variable valve timing and lift. The QX, which underwent a makeover last year, has three rows of seats that can accommodate up to eight passengers, but our test vehicle only had room for seven due to the captain’s chairs in the second row and the three-seat bench in the third.
For the Car Seat Check, we use a Britax Roundabout convertible child safety seat, a Graco high-back TurboBooster seat, and a Graco SnugRide 30 rear-facing baby safety seat.
A 6-foot driver and a shorter adult passenger may both sit comfortably in the front seats. The second row is equipped with the three child seats. The infant seat and convertible seats are put behind the passenger seat, while the booster seat is installed behind the driver’s seat. To test whether three car seats will fit, we also install the infant car seat in the middle seat of the second row and the booster and convertible in the outer seats. We install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible if there is a third row.
There are just two sets of lower Latch anchors in this huge SUV, and they are located in the captain’s chairs in the second row. Because the anchors are hidden by wide holes in the seat material, they cannot be seen. Due to the fact that they are not buried too deeply in these slots, the Latch anchors are simple to use.
Three tether anchors are present, two of which are located at the bases of the captain’s seats. Although they are simple to use, getting to them requires effort. The tether anchor for the third row is located on the back lip of the cargo area, which reduces the amount of usable cargo capacity.
Booster seat: The captain’s chair’s seatback does not recline, therefore the high-back booster seat worked nicely in the chair. The buckles in the second row are virtually flush with the bottom seat cushions since they are sunk so deeply. The booster buckle is on a pretty long nylon strap, and it fits comfortably in the third row (see above photo).
Convertible seat: Despite the captain’s chair’s substantial bolstering, both the forward- and rear-facing convertibles fit comfortably in the second row. We secured the forward-facing convertible in the third row with a seat belt. The automobile seat was comfortable.
Access to the third row: Our test vehicle has the second row’s optional power folding seats. By pressing a button, the seats can be moved forward to make room for the third row. This technique worked well, but it could provide a challenge for parents who have children in child safety seats because you have to remove the car seat in order to fold the captain’s chairs.
The ability of a child in a booster seat to reach the seat belt clasp is a requirement for all three types of car seats — infant safety, convertible, and booster seats — to fit in a vehicle. Parents should keep in mind that installing a car seat can be done using either the Latch system or a seat belt.
