The Machine That I Am
As discussed in the posts above, you can infer information about the build and production as well as other minor details by looking at the VIN number itself.
The dealer can also tell you what options were included from the factory if you provide them the last 7 digits of the VIN (2 letters and 5 numbers); alternatively, you may go down there and have it printed out. They can refuse to assist you if you reveal the owner of the car. They gain nothing from that, so they wouldn’t be leaping up and down to do it, lol.

by VIN options list
Hello everyone! I know there is a website where I can enter my VIN and it will list all the standard and non-standard options on a car, but I can’t for the life of me find the link.
It’s a great specification. There is a lot of individual leather, which is absolutely beautiful, as well as sport cars, attractive exterior colors, etc. A good-sounding automobile.
Although we had an appointment, the salesperson I had been messaging all week was on his day off. While this doesn’t upset me too much, he should have let me know that someone else would be filling in for him.
BMW AUC salesman repeatedly insisted that he had only started 6 months ago despite having zero product knowledge!
Even though we had been communicating via email all week and he knew I was coming to see the car, it wasn’t clean when I arrived for a test drive.
I have been in the automotive sales business for 16 years, so I have never been on the other side of the desk before, but small, seemingly insignificant things may make a huge difference in how much a customer enjoys the purchase experience.
Very near to my specifications, the only things I can see missing from the list that I would like are the adaptive suspension and sun roof. My car is red, so I don’t have the specific color.
Driving on dark roads is much improved with adaptive headlights and high beam help, especially at this time of year.
Since I live in the Highlands, the adaptive headlights were a major selling point for me. Used them over the weekend and it is significantly better, opening up the side of the road when cars are approaching you, etc., very beneficial for the variety of species up here.
In my experience, a VIN decoder does not always reveal all the car’s information. Some of them are only visible after purchasing an Official Full VIN Report, which costs between 7 and 10 EUR on most websites and not only displays all of the vehicle’s equipment but also its mileage and service history, among other information. Re: How can I determine which accessories my car has?
The whole list of choices is available on the BMW UK website if you own a BMW manufactured in the UK.
Visit the website at http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/homepage/ and select Genuine BMW Parts from the BMW Owner Area menu up top.
Pick Parts Catalogue from the menu on the left side of the page. Take note of the Username and Password (‘eu111111’ for the Username and ‘bmwetk1’ for the Password), and then click on the ‘Electronic components catalogue’ link at the bottom of the page. Find genuine BMW accessories and spare parts.
After login in, a window will appear where you can enter the final seven characters of your vehicle identification number (VIN). This then opens a new window; click on Options at the top of this window to view the entire specification as it was provided.
How can I find out the options my car had when it was ordered?
The dealer will give you a pamphlet listing all the options your new car offers when you purchase it. With the acquisition of a new car, the likelihood is great that you’ve lost it or never received it.
Find your car’s VIN code and use it to search the manufacturer’s website to learn what options were ordered with it. The manufacturer of the vehicle should have a free VIN decoder on their website, so you don’t need to use expensive websites for vehicle examination.
The North American Motoring VIN Decoder is the most versatile alternative because it is cost-free, comprehensive, and simple to use.
What packages does my car have, and how can I know?
You will have a lot of knowledge if you know where your VIN is and how to read it. The location of the vehicle’s manufacture and its available options can both be determined from the VIN. The driver’s side 17-digit VIN contains information on the vehicle’s purchase and maintenance history. You can use the VIN to call a dealership, access a report online, or get in touch with the manufacturer to learn more.

The 17-digit BMW vehicle identification number, or VIN, is a special identifier that identifies your automobile and contains information such as the year it was made.
- One: This is where the automobile was put together. It was assembled in Germany if the VIN begins with a W. If it begins with a 5, the car was put together in the United States.
- Digit two: The manufacturer is indicated by this character. The letter B indicates German manufacturing, while the letters U or Y indicate American manufacturing.
- Three: This is the type of vehicle. It will usually be an X or an A.
- Digits four through eight: This part of the VIN provides information about the specific car, including its model, body type, engine, and transmission.
- Nine: This digit is used to check the validity of the VIN. If you enter it wrong, there will be a mistake in the VIN.
- Numbers 10 and 11: The year and the factory where it was put together.

The vehicle’s pre-delivery checks that were finished as part of sale preparation are also listed on the construction sheet. The build sheet is typically located in your owner’s handbook, in the glove box, or under the passenger seat.

What trim is on my car?
It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a DX or an EX, does it? Actually, it often does matter because automakers frequently choose different wheel and tire sizes for various trim levels. Thus, even if both of you and your friend may drive 2012 Honda Civics, your EX may have a different size tire than your friend’s DX.
Here’s how to determine the trim level if you’re unsure:
- The trim information can be found on the vehicle’s original sales receipt or window sticker, if you still have one.
- Check out the owner’s manual. The trim level is occasionally included.
- Take a look at the car itself. A decal or lettering identifying the trim level is commonly found on the side or rear of many cars.
What is the trim number on my VIN number?
A frequent query is “How can I go about figuring out my car’s trim?”. The owner’s manual or the original sales invoice are the simplest options. The trim should be mentioned in one of these documents. There may also be a logo or insignia on the back of the car that indicates the trim level, but this is becoming less common. If neither of these approaches can help you locate the trim, visit the manufacturer’s website and utilize their VIN lookup tool to learn more about the available options for the car. You can also use the tool below to access your vehicle’s trim details by entering the VIN (17 characters) number. The driver-side dashboard of your car, the title of your automobile, or the inside of the driver-side doorjamb all contain your vehicle’s VIN number.
How can I tell whether my automobile has a remote starter?
You must first check at your key fob to see if you have the remote start option. The remote starter button has an arrow-like form.
If your key fob has this button, your car has remote starting capability. Press the button that locks the car once to try remote starting. Your engine will start when you press and hold the remote-start button for at least four seconds.
The climate control and parking lights will turn on as soon as the engine begins. Additionally, the heated/ventilated seats and the rear window defroster may turn on. You must only move out of park after pressing the start button on the dashboard since this function starts the engine but does not switch on the ignition.
Press and hold the button with the curved arrow on it to turn the engine off if you change your mind. Parking lot lights will go out.
Is it possible to obtain a build sheet from a VIN?
A dealer can obtain a build sheet, a printout of the car’s configuration, by entering the VIN. Engine size, transmission type, bed size, interior features, and even factory extras are included.
